Chapter 166: Who’s More Vengeful, Struck by Lightning

“Decision?” Su Chen was taken aback, his heart filled with doubt. “What decision?”

“Nothing, let’s see if you’re recognized first.” Xia Hanshi shook his head, not explaining much.

Seeing that Old Xia wasn’t willing to talk, Su Chen knew it was useless to ask. He noticed many scars on Xia Hanshi’s withered skin.

“Accidentally injured by some Heretic God Cultists.” Xia Hanshi said it lightly, but Su Chen understood that a situation that could injure the Chief Justice must have been extremely dangerous.

“Then you should rest well this time.” Su Chen seized the opportunity to say. With Old Xia gone, he always felt insecure, and had to be careful in many matters.

Xia Hanshi glanced at him. “I’m back this time, and for a short period, I don’t plan to go out. I’ll be guarding the Tribunal for a while.”

“Guarding?” Su Chen was slightly stunned, feeling that the word was unusual.

Xia Hanshi didn’t hide anything: “The Faceless Ghost followers have gathered in large numbers and are preparing to attack Nanfeng.”

Su Chen’s eyebrows twitched, and he instinctively said, “Holy Feast?”

“Chong Jingtian and the others, they even told you about this?” Xia Hanshi snorted coldly, “They sure know how to put pressure on others.”

“It’s not a Holy Feast?” Sensing that Xia Hanshi’s attitude wasn’t too anxious, and he even had time to curse Old Chong, Su Chen breathed a sigh of relief.

“Exactly…” Xia Hanshi was pleased with Su Chen’s sharpness and nodded, “This attack by the Faceless Ghost followers is not a Holy Feast, but a separate assault.”

“However, we are also very curious,” Xia Hanshi seemed quite puzzled as he said this. “They are not busy preparing for the Holy Feast, but instead are attacking Nanfeng.”

“If this attack weakens their power and prevents them from initiating the Faceless Ghost’s ritual, then the dominion of Chihlei Star will have nothing to do with the Faceless Ghost.”

Su Chen lowered his head in thought, but then he suddenly remembered the Faceless Ghost God Son. That person created the body of Meng Qi to infiltrate, all for the stone slab that carried the spirit of the great reverend.

But he, Su Chen, had messed up and caused their retreat. Could the purpose of this attack on Nanfeng be that stone slab? Since they couldn’t get it through infiltration, they now wanted to snatch it?

“Any thoughts?” Xia Hanshi’s eyes flashed with a glimmer of wisdom, and he asked.

“No.” Su Chen shook his head honestly. “I was just thinking of Meng Qi.”

“Meng Qi?” Xia Hanshi frowned, remembering. “The core seed killed by Teng Liang, the means of the Faceless Ghost…”

Su Chen muttered, “If Meng Qi hadn’t died, and he had advanced to the fourth tier, the Chief would probably have taken him to see the stone slab. I wonder if the contents would have been recognized.”

“Stone slab?” Xia Hanshi frowned tightly, vaguely making a guess.

Su Chen stopped short of saying too much, then asked with concern, “Can Nanfeng… withstand this attack?”

Xia Hanshi glanced at him, his expression composed, “The reason those Heretic God Cultists want to start the Holy Feast is because they can’t do anything about us.”

“They hide in the vast, fog-shrouded lands, difficult for us to find, but it’s equally hard for them to launch a frontal assault.”

“This time, there might be some changes, but the outcome will not change.”

    Xia Hanshi said with certainty.

That’s right… if they had the strength to breach Nanfeng, would they still need to sneak around?

The cities that the Heretic God Cultists had chosen for blood sacrifices before were all on the fringes of Nanfeng’s dominion, clearly to avoid Nanfeng’s sharp edge.

Thinking of this, Su Chen felt a lot more relaxed. He had been thinking all this time that Nanfeng and the other four cities were like cornered beasts, seeking survival in a desperate situation.

But now, on second thought, those Heretic God Cultists initiating the Holy Feast was actually a sign of desperation.

The number of followers they could expand was probably at its limit. Next, they could only extend their reach into the cities, but with the four cities heavily guarded, they could only try to start the Holy Feast.

If the Holy Feast was prevented, they would also be severely weakened, or even directly decline.

“One more thing.” Xia Hanshi suddenly asked, “When Teng Liang first killed Meng Qi in the Tribunal’s Judgment Hall, did anyone instigate it?”

Old Xia still remembered this, and Su Chen’s heart skipped a beat, looking at Old Xia’s cold gaze.

“I can’t remember the exact details of that day, and I arrived quite late. Ming Lin said it was like this…” Su Chen narrated, trying to recall.

As he listened, Xia Hanshi’s cold gaze gradually turned strange. He knew the final outcome, and he knew that the Heituo Cultists who showed up were just trying to find out if anyone had taken advantage of the situation.

But what Su Chen said was too detailed, so detailed that it included everyone’s subtle change in expression, and Xue Fei’s sinister gaze.

“You remember so clearly?” Finally, Xia Hanshi couldn’t help but ask.

“Huh?” Su Chen looked bewildered, then thought for a moment and said, “Is that so? Maybe I just have a good contextual memory.”

This kid is even more vengeful than me, Xia Hanshi secretly nodded.

It’s good to hold a grudge. The desire for revenge makes one more motivated.

“Xue Fei, that good-for-nothing who kowtows behind Wei Yinsuo…” Xia Hanshi muttered.

Su Chen hesitated: “This… wouldn’t it be bad to kill him for no reason? He’s a department head of the Tribunal, and now is a time when people are needed…”

Xia Hanshi’s eyelids twitched, and he gave Su Chen a deep look, thinking he was even more ruthless than himself.

“You’re right.” Xia Hanshi said with a poker face.

“Uh, that’s just my personal opinion, you don’t have to take it too seriously,” Su Chen explained again.

“Alright, I know what I’m doing.” Xia Hanshi waved his hand and asked again, “Has anyone bullied you during this time?”

“It’s not exactly bullying, just some disputes.” Su Chen said helplessly, “Wei Yu Fan seems to dislike me for some reason.”

“He… is a student of Zhu Yutie, the Seventh. That’s a bit troublesome.” Xia Hanshi frowned. “Let’s see when Old Chong leaves. It’s not easy to handle when he’s around.”

“You handle it.” Su Chen said no more.

Xia Hanshi told him to focus on training and not to worry about anything else, then left.

“Old Xia’s back, a lot more relaxed now,” Su Chen murmured to himself as he entered the Gravity Training Room, striving for the last bit of progress on the Azure Thunder Master ability.

At the same time, even the most ordinary people of Nanfeng sensed the unusual atmosphere.

Various organizations in Nanfeng City announced the postponement of assessments, and not only that, the Tribunal also announced delays. Many people saw giant tanks and aircraft rumbling out of the arsenal, leaving Nanfeng. The expressions on the faces of every Judge, Supervisory Guard, City Patrol Guard, and Exploration Guard they saw were grim.

All of this indicated that a storm was brewing.

A few days later, in the gravity room, Su Chen’s skin crackled incessantly, fine electrical arcs danced between his hairs, and a faint burnt smell wafted through the air.

[Swift Shadow Body Refinement Method upgraded to Master level, gaining ability–Swiftness: Slightly increases speed.]

Su Chen let out a long breath, glanced at the panel, and saw that the development progress of Azure Thunder Master had reached 95%, almost at the final stretch.

“However, I’m still missing the last job requirement.”

Su Chen reached out, took out his smart bracelet from his storage space, connected to the network, and received a notification from the Occupational Analysis Department that the thunderstorm environment was ready and he could go in at any time.

“Perfect…” Su Chen got up, tidied himself up slightly, and headed to the coordinates provided by the Occupational Analysis Department.

It was not in Nanfeng City, but outside the city.

For safety’s sake, he called Teng Liang along. They took a small aircraft, completed the procedures, and left the city.

“Since coming to Nanfeng, this must be my first time leaving the city.”

Su Chen looked down at the thick city walls below, the giant defensive spirit ring surrounding Nanfeng seemed to be right before his eyes, and the city walls below rapidly flew past.

“Xue Fei was sent to the front by our teacher,” Teng Liang, sitting beside him, suddenly said, his voice still dull. “He’s leading a small team to gather information about the Faceless Ghost followers up close.”

Su Chen raised an eyebrow. Old Xia was putting things to good use. Investigating the Faceless Ghost army at close range, which likely included Chief Priests and even the Faceless Ghost God Son, was undoubtedly very dangerous.

    “He agreed?”

Teng Liang shook his head, saying blandly, “He had to, whether he wanted to or not. Someone had to go, so why couldn’t it be him?”

“True.” Su Chen nodded. Ever since Wei Yinsuo died, Xue Fei had kept a low profile, but Old Xia was genuinely vengeful.

Teng Liang didn’t say much, and the two chatted on and off, quickly arriving at their coordinates.

This was a valley. From afar, a large expanse of dark thunderclouds could be seen, thick lightning snakes twisted wildly in the cloud sea, and the booming sound intertwined with the valley’s echoes.

Torrential rain, like a burst dam, formed a continuous curtain of rain distorted by the strong winds.

The aircraft stopped to one side, where staff from the Occupational Analysis Department were already waiting. According to them, this thunderstorm area was created by two Tier 4 Professionals working together over three days.

“The intensity should be enough to meet the requirements of the Catastrophe Walker…” The person in charge shouted against the whistling wind, referring to the information Su Chen had given them.

“Thank you.” Su Chen nodded and walked straight into it.

“Chief Teng…” The two Tier 4 Professionals who had created the thunderstorm area walked over, looked at Su Chen’s back, exchanged glances, then turned to Teng Liang, unable to help but ask:

“Is Lord Su Chen not taking any defensive measures?”

Teng Liang frowned slightly. Su Chen didn’t mention it, so he probably didn’t need any.

Seeing that he didn’t respond, the two had no choice but to wait aside.

As soon as he entered the thunderstorm area, Su Chen’s brows twitched madly. The surrounding area was filled with extremely rich and turbulent thunder elements.

“I’m going to be struck by lightning…” Su Chen tentatively encased himself in the thunder elements he controlled.

Almost instantly, a bolt of lightning, like an explosive crack, descended from the sky and struck him.

    Rumble!

His entire body was engulfed in a storm of blue and white lightning, countless electrical arcs, like crazy vines, twisted around his limbs and bones.

The immense kinetic energy from the lightning strike slammed him heavily to the ground, and a dense network of electrical patterns appeared on the surface of his skin, pulsating with an overloaded current.

“Is he just taking it head-on?”

Isn’t he using defensive measures against the lightning strike? The Catastrophe Walker should be able to use defensive measures to weaken the power of the lightning.

In the distance, the two Tier 4 Professionals noticed this, and their hearts thumped hard, wondering if he wasn’t a Catastrophe Walker.

Although this area was created by their combined efforts, they also utilized a thundercloud, so they knew its power.

They couldn’t help but worry. Chief Justice Xia had just returned and dealt with Xue Fei.

If anything happened to his beloved student, they both might be implicated.

Thinking of this, they could only pray in secret.

“Damn it…” Su Chen groaned. This time, it was truly fierce.

However, although his clothes were torn to shreds, his body suffered no significant damage.

“This seemingly simple requirement is also terrifying. An ordinary Tier 3 Professional might not find it difficult to withstand one or two blows, but to endure it for three consecutive days without defensive measures, turning into charcoal would be a light outcome.” Su Chen couldn’t help but marvel.

Immediately, the Adamant Thunder Armor ability activated, attaching itself to the purple-gold scaled armor hidden beneath his skin, and the pressure on his body instantly vanished.

A continuous stream of lightning descended, some absorbed by the Indestructible Armor, while the rest was completely unable to harm him.

“I have to be struck by lightning here for a day.” Su Chen opened his mouth and spat out a mouthful of thunder foam. Although it could no longer harm him, being struck by lightning felt quite awkward.

Time passed minute by minute, with the two Tier 4 Professionals standing by, maintaining the intensity of the thunderstorm area.

Twenty-four hours quickly passed, and Su Chen immediately darted out, stark naked, but he didn’t mind.

“Is time up?” Teng Liang was quite surprised.

“Pretty much.” Su Chen took the clothes from a nearby staff member and put them on.

My goodness, he really took it head-on, without a scratch. The two Tier 4 Professionals next to him secretly clicked their tongues in amazement and curiosity. After enduring only one day of lightning, it seemed he truly wasn’t a Catastrophe Walker.

“Then let’s go.” Teng Liang didn’t ask any more questions, and he and Su Chen left together. The analysis department personnel began to clean up the aftermath and dismantle the thunderstorm area.
