    Chapter 158: Hong Xuan’s Power

Hong Xuan’s challenge was quite a surprise to Su Chen.

However, there was a blood feud between the four cities, and Yuandu was always second, subtly competing with Yingfeng. It was understandable for that guy to act this way.

Although Yingfeng had many organizations, the Tribunal was just one of them.

Security divisions and the like also had places to cultivate new blood, but they could only select from the local Yingfeng population or pick up those rejected by the Tribunal.

The native population of Yingfeng, compared to the 125 lower-level cities, was still too small. In terms of quality and quantity, it was far inferior to the talent the Tribunal could recruit.

In a way, suppressing the Tribunal was equivalent to suppressing Yingfeng.

However, Su Chen had long known the purpose of Yuandu’s arrival, so he had an additional guess.

“Perhaps he also wants to prove himself, to show he’s worthy of recognition?”

He speculated, but the other party’s aggressive behavior showed that the people of Yuandu and Yingfeng had not settled the slab issue, and perhaps even had a falling out.

“They had a falling out and are still being so aggressive. Surely Old Chong wouldn’t agree after he beats everyone, right?”

Su Chen muttered to himself, because of years of bloody battles, many of Yuandu’s methods of dealing with Yingfeng seemed abstract.

Under normal circumstances, to trade professions, they should present their bargaining chips and negotiate properly. But Yuandu had to resort to dirty tricks, which seemed preposterous, but given the years of animosity, it was understandable.

Su Chen shook his head inwardly and returned to the gravity room, continuing to search for the Essence of Spirituality.

After a few more days, there was still no progress. Su Chen had no choice but to adjust, returning to his training and taking some time each day to search.

Time passed quickly, and it was now early April.

That day, in the gravity room, Su Chen heard a knock on the door. He stopped his practice, exhaled a breath mixed with tiny electric arcs, and called up his panel—

    [Azure Thunder Master: 72%]

    [Arcane Hand: 80%]

[D-grade Swift Shadow Body Refinement Method — Proficient: 10%]

    [D-grade Guixu Meditation Method — Proficient: 80%]

His body forging technique had been updated. The Thunderous Aura Body Refinement Method had reached Master level more than half a month ago, granting him the ability [Raging Aura], which slightly enhanced his defensive power.

After a quick adjustment, Su Chen opened the door. Teng Liang stood outside, his gaunt body clad in a thin jacket, looking even more athletic.

“Senior Brother.” Su Chen invited him in.

Su Chen closed the door, and Teng Liang got straight to the point, “I contacted a Tier 5 professional who specializes in confinement and sealing.”

After learning the difficulty of acquiring the Eye of the Thunder God from Gu Bing last time, he contacted Senior Brother Teng Liang to see if he could find a suitable candidate.

Senior Brother Teng Liang was very efficient in his work, but suitable Tier 5 professionals were indeed hard to find, and he only had news now.

Hearing this, Su Chen wasn’t excited. Instead, he asked, “What’s the price?”

Teng Liang said, “He’s one of the Deputy Directors of the Resources Management Department, and he’s not yet fifty years old. There’s a good chance he’ll become a Tier 6 professional.”

“I estimate that he might require us to fulfill certain requests when the time comes.”

Su Chen sighed, “It’s not simple.”

“Also, he knows you’re the one looking for him, and he requested to meet you before he sets off.” Teng Liang hesitated a bit, then added, “If your need isn’t urgent, I advise against involving him.”

“He’ll definitely exploit this favor to the fullest.”

Su Chen wasn’t surprised that the other party knew he was looking. He had asked Gu Bing to inquire all over Yingfeng some time ago, and anyone with a bit of initiative would find out.

“It’s quite urgent indeed.” Su Chen mused, “If he wants to meet, then let’s meet.”

Teng Liang didn’t say much else, nodding, “Then let’s make it this afternoon. I’ll inform him.”

Teng Liang was decisive and immediately went to make arrangements.

“At least there’s a lead for the Eye of the Thunder God…”

Su Chen felt helpless. Although he would owe a favor afterward, he finally had a solution.

But there was still no trace of the Essence of Spirituality.

He hadn’t given up searching during this time, but unfortunately, he still found nothing.

There was no way to get help with this. The Underworld was not a good place; even high-level professionals risked dying there.

“I wonder if Yuandu has any in stock, but even if they do, they definitely wouldn’t give it to me.” Su Chen thought, and then couldn’t help but sigh, “Thankfully, the Great Venerable had foresight and turned three demands into one, otherwise it would be even more troublesome.”

Calming his mind, Su Chen left the room. He hadn’t been out in a long time, so he took a deep breath. The cool air filled his lungs, making him feel much more refreshed.

“Ming Lin… still can’t sit still,” Su Chen muttered. “He seems to be on the verge of advancing to a Tier 4 profession, but he’s still forcefully suppressing it.”

Today was the day Ming Lin was challenged by Hong Xuan. Su Chen had been specifically invited two days ago to witness the event.

“It’s probably going to be very lively, and there might even be some heckling. I have things to do this afternoon.” He rummaged through his storage space for the human skin mask he hadn’t used in a long time and applied it to his face.

It was one he’d brought out from Yingfeng. Some professionals could see through it at a glance, but within the Tribunal, no one would use overly provocative methods to observe others.

Following the directions, Su Chen headed to the Challenger Arena, a place he hadn’t visited in a long time.

During his seclusion, he occasionally paid attention to outside news.

Hong Xuan’s challenge was quite impolite. He would stand on the challenge platform and basically not come down, accepting all challengers.

This stance made everyone understand his intentions. The Tribunal naturally didn’t accept this, and people repeatedly stepped forward.

First, there were ordinary seeds, then Feng Ze, Liang Jingcheng, Zhong Ming, and others, all of whom were defeated.

Among the core seeds, only Ming Lin remained. This guy was about to advance to a Tier 4 professional, and he decided to fight one battle before advancing.

If he stepped onto the stage after advancing, both would be Tier 4.

Hong Xuan had been a Tier 4 professional much longer than him, which was a disadvantage in a way.

Before he even reached the place, Su Chen could faintly hear the clamor.

When he arrived, he was even more startled.

The square was packed with people, even more than when Chu Xuan had his first battle at Tier 3, and there were even open-air seats set up.

“Why are there Security Division personnel too?”

Su Chen scanned the area and saw many Supervisory Guards, City Patrol Team members, and even Exploration Guards, all gathered together.

Normally, these people rarely appeared in the same frame as Tribunal members.

There were too many people, and Su Chen couldn’t squeeze in unless he revealed his identity.

He had to find a shady spot and watch from a distance.

On the large screens placed around the venue, only Hong Xuan was visible, sitting cross-legged and suspended on the arena, his eyes slightly closed, seemingly resting.

“Damn it, seeing this guy acting so sissy annoys me.”

“Alas, what can I say, he has defeated several core seeds repeatedly.”

Su Chen heard someone cursing beside him, evidently filled with deep resentment. “Didn’t you see those Yuandu people acting haughty? Even the security division came to watch the fun, I wonder how they’re laughing at us.”

Hong Xuan’s challenge had been going on for over a month, causing a stir not only within the Tribunal but also in Yingfeng, attracting widespread attention.

“Didn’t a few young people from the Security Division come a few days ago? They still ended up losing.”

As everyone was discussing, Hong Xuan on the stage suddenly made a move, placing his legs down and opening his eyes.

Ming Lin had already ascended the stage.

The clamor gradually subsided. Watching through the screen, no one could sense any aura fluctuations from either of them.

“This is the first time I’ve seen Ming Lin make a move.” Su Chen suddenly thought.

    “Yingfeng Tribunal – Ming Lin.”

A voice came from the screen. Ming Lin looked at the other party with a solemn expression.

Hong Xuan’s expression was indifferent, “Yuandu Church – Hong Xuan.”

    After introducing themselves, neither moved.

Through the screen, no one could feel the energy fluctuations of the two, so the confrontation seemed somewhat baffling, but everyone could imagine it, and their expressions gradually became excited.

Upon discovering something, Ming Lin’s face slightly changed, and he was the first to move. The edge of his left foot flared with frost, while his right side melted into crimson magma. The airflow around him formed a violent vortex, attacking Hong Xuan.

The screen’s broadcast made it difficult to observe the battle details; the dazzling energy had already made the screen a brilliant white.

“A rare opposing profession.” Su Chen narrowed his eyes.

Ming Lin’s Tier 1, 2, and 3 professions were all top-tier, and the Tier 4 he sought was also top-tier.

Before him, he was a strong contender for Wei Yu Fan, and the two had many conflicts.

However, starting from Tier 2, he deliberately chose opposing professions of lower tiers.

When choosing a profession, there are many directions, and as long as one is willing to put in the effort, there are also many compatible professions. However, elemental professions that are opposite to each other are always a big taboo, yet Ming Lin chose to go against this.

The dazzling white on the screen gradually faded, and the faces of the onlookers, craning their necks to watch, were horrified.

On the stage, Hong Xuan remained motionless, still standing in place, with a layer of energy barrier swirling around him, effortlessly blocking Ming Lin’s attack.

Ming Lin’s face was grim, and his heterochromatic eyes suddenly glowed. His left eye was as dark as an abyss, and his right eye was as blazing white as the scorching sun. Two distinctly different beams of light pierced through the air, intertwining into a spiral-shaped energy torrent that fiercely struck.

The screen turned dazzling white again.

“It is said that Ming Lin was discovered in a certain gathering place, born with heterochromatic eyes, and later, this somehow intersected with his profession, subtly giving him an additional combat method.”

“Perhaps it was because of his heterochromatic eyes that he chose conflicting professions.”

Unable to clearly see the battle, Su Chen’s eyes were unfocused. At first, he thought Ming Lin’s heterochromatic eyes were due to his profession, but later he learned that he was born with them.

    “It’s over? Did he surrender?”

Someone suddenly shouted. As soon as the dazzling white faded from the screen, they saw Ming Lin, his face full of bitterness, seemingly unharmed, but he sighed and jumped straight off the stage.

And without anyone noticing, Hong Xuan was already standing in front of him, looking at him calmly.

“Why did he surrender? He clearly had more strength left.” A judge stomped his foot, unable to help but exclaim, “What in the world was Sir Ming Lin thinking?”

“He probably realized the gap between them; there’s no point in continuing the fight,” someone next to him sighed.

“But he should at least try…”

The plaza outside erupted in an uproar, with shouts rising and falling.

    ………

In the Challenger Arena, the Tribunal members all looked dejected, exchanging glances in terrifying silence.

In the highest viewing stands, An Ming leaned back, his hands behind his head, and playfully said, “As expected.”

“Six core seeds, four have already fallen. That Wei Yu Fan is a Tier 5 professional and cannot fight. So, there’s only one left, I think his name is Su Chen. How long will he shrink away?”

Someone next to him shook his head: “I heard that Su Chen is unusual, with dual professions. Wei Yu Fan was forced by him to avoid battle by advancing to a Tier 5 profession.”

An Ming remained unconcerned, “That’s good then. Defeating the last one is equivalent to defeating Wei Yu Fan.”

“I hope he comes out soon and doesn’t waste time.”

“Aren’t you always unhappy with Hong Xuan? Why don’t you go up and try?” The burly man next to An Ming teased.

An Ming’s face darkened slightly, but he said calmly, “This challenge arena is really interesting. I heard that the Saint Envoy is already negotiating with Yingfeng to buy back the technology.”

“I’ll try it when I get back; if I go up now, the Saint Envoy will probably skin me alive.”

“Hehe…” The person next to him chuckled.

Wei Yu Fan and the others were not far away, and An Ming spoke without any reservation. The faces of several people were quite grim.

“Ming Lin has also been defeated.”

In the top box, Chong Jingtian’s face was grim as he looked at the arena below.

After Ming Lin left, Hong Xuan returned to his usual state, sitting cross-legged in the void, eyes closed, quietly awaiting his next opponent.

    “Where’s that kid?” he asked.

Although he didn’t call out a name, Jiang Shumo, who was next to him, clearly knew who Chong Jingtian was referring to and said helplessly:

“He’s been mourning Wei Yinsuo. He hasn’t left the house since he came back from the Translation Department.”

Chong Jingtian’s face twitched, “He’s patient. He won’t even move a muscle without a little push.”

“He might not necessarily win either.” Jiang Shumo shook his head and sighed, “The last time he crushed Chu Xuan was because of his dual top-tier professions, where he seized the initiative through mental control.”

“And this Hong Xuan also has dual professions. Su Chen’s methods won’t work on him. The battles these past few days have shown me that he has more than one special profession.”

Chong Jingtian’s face was grim. “Wu Chenpei is trying to prove that no one in Yingfeng can surpass Hong Xuan.”

“Does he think that if he proves it, I’ll let him see the stone tablet?”

Jiang Shumo imperceptibly shook his head. Regardless of whether he would let him see it or not, being suppressed by someone now was truly humiliating.

Pressure was mounting from the Council of Elders, and public opinion was significant. Some were already saying that the Tribunal, which consumed so many resources, was full of incompetents.

“He may not gain recognition.” You Shan’s gaze retracted from Ming Lin, who was leaving with his head down, and she couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy.

“Not necessarily?” Chong Jingtian sneered, “I dare say, if he really sees it, there’s a strong chance he’ll get spiritual recognition. With even partial spiritual recognition, he can enter the ruins, access the other half of the stone tablet, and most likely become the chosen one.”

“The Morning Star Tier profession is not baseless. The Red Flame Thunder God, just by that name, means that professionals whose foundations are ice or water elements could never be recognized.”

Speaking of this, Chong Jingtian was silent for a moment, then let out a long sigh, “We lack too much information.”

The demands of high-level professions are bizarre and varied, and the Morning Star Stage professions are even more so. If one doesn’t prepare several stages beforehand, it will be too late when the time comes.
