    Chapter 1: Arcane Apprentice

    “Dead?”

A soft, charming voice echoed in his ears, with a hint of surprise.

To Su Chen’s ears, it was just a jumble of overlapping sounds, and he couldn’t make out the words that followed.

He felt as if he was in a dream, his eyes slightly open, but he couldn’t see the scene before him.

Then, at some point, like surfacing from underwater, everything he heard and saw became clear.

    “…He’s quite good at pretending…”

The voice came again, and Su Chen felt a bit confused. All he could see was a pair of pale white thighs, with sparkling toes on a red carpet.

A distinct scent wafted into his nose, and Su Chen couldn’t help but frown. The perfumed scent was too strong; he didn’t like it.

Subconsciously, he wanted to rub his nose, but realized his hands seemed to be restrained by something. He turned his head and saw black shackles.

    I… wasn’t at home…

He instinctively tried to recall, but a sharp pain shot through his head, and a flood of memories that weren’t his own rushed in.

A few breaths later, he understood his situation, his face a mixture of complex emotions.

“Little brother…” The soft, charming voice came again, this time with a hint of displeasure. “If you can’t take it, just say so. You’ve ruined my mood.”

As Su Chen looked up, the other person had already turned around, a black and red silk nightgown outlining a graceful figure.

Although he hadn’t seen her face, a cold and beautiful face inevitably appeared in his mind.

Jiang He, from the Central District – one of the mysticism tutors at Southwind Academy.

And himself, he couldn’t help but lower his head again, his mouth twitching slightly, a cool sensation in his crotch.

He had actually been subjected to a “casting couch” scenario?

The original owner was not a student of the academy, but a low-class vagrant in Southwind City. Due to Southwind City regulations, he was about to be sent out of the city as cannon fodder, which was why he wanted to enter Southwind Academy.

Logically, it would be almost impossible for him to enroll.

Fortunately, he was born with a good face. After several twists and turns, he finally found a glimmer of hope, which now rested on the woman before him.

As memories flooded in, his vision blurred again, and several mosquito-like distorted characters gradually formed, arranged quite neatly.

    [Host: Su Chen]

[Elementary Combat (Proficient – Not Equipped)]

This is… Su Chen was momentarily stunned, his heart leaped, his face tensed, and he tried his best to control his emotional fluctuations.

He swallowed hard, his mind instinctively focusing on the [Elementary Combat] skill.

[Elementary Combat (Proficient – Not Equipped): 64%]

(Note: Acquired from years of training in his previous life. After equipping, it will enhance the host’s physical attributes)]

A gift from a past life? Su Chen came back to his senses. Although he wasn’t skinny now, he was clearly much weaker than his previous body.

But now, it didn’t seem like the time to equip it…

“Your soft, weak, bewildered look… is really interesting.”

Jiang He spoke again. When Su Chen looked up again, he saw that she was already reclining on the sofa.

    *Clank!*

She gently flicked her hand, and the shackles on his wrists came undone. Su Chen’s arms loosened, and he stumbled a bit on the carpet, but he couldn’t help but look at the black shackles.

It was said that… this mysticism tutor was already a professional.

“Come…” Jiang He beckoned, her red lips parted slightly, and she drank the wine.

Su Chen hesitated. He had replaced the original soul, and although he knew the original guy’s personality,

it wouldn’t be easy to pretend. If he got too close, she might notice something unusual.

Seeing him not move, Jiang He’s mouth curved slightly. Her slender fingers reached towards the small table by the sofa, where there was a gilded letter with black geometric lines outlining its edges.

    Admission recommendation letter!

A few words popped into Su Chen’s mind, and he felt an inexplicable yearning. This was also the original owner’s purpose for being here.

With this, he could enter Southwind Academy and escape the fate of being cannon fodder.

At this point, refusing was impossible. Su Chen could only lower his head, his messy hair covering his face, and hesitantly walked forward.

“This is wine made from grapes cultivated with ‘Sun-Glow.’ It can restore some stamina… Would you like to try some?”

Although Jiang He said that, she drank the wine in one gulp, placing the empty glass on the recommendation letter. Then she straightened her upper body, and the faint red wine stain was clearly visible.

The wine in the glass was gone, so…

Su Chen paused. It wasn’t that he was too surprised, but according to the original owner’s reaction, he had to stop.

“Don’t be shy… Come… Try some…” Jiang He couldn’t help but smile, her voice extremely seductive.

“What’s wrong? You don’t even dare to look up?”

Jiang He got up and walked step by step in front of Su Chen. She reached out her slender hand to lift his chin. She liked to see this shy, helpless, indignant, yet forced to compromise, youthful appearance.

Su Chen’s mind raced, thinking about the original owner’s personality and how he should express it.

However, at that moment, his body instinctively leaned back.

This woman suddenly changed direction halfway, her hand didn’t lift his chin, but went further down. The subconscious reaction engraved in his soul was faster than his thoughts.

Jiang He’s movements paused slightly. After waiting for a moment, she didn’t get Su Chen’s reluctant straighten-up. Her eyes immediately showed some dissatisfaction.

He had shown reluctance, but where was the welcome?

Her voice immediately turned cold, “Since you’re still unwilling, then get lost.”

Su Chen hesitated. Although, according to his memories, not entering the academy would cause some trouble, he needed time to familiarize himself with everything now.

Moreover, this woman was not to be trifled with. Why would he suddenly take over the original owner’s body when he was perfectly fine?

If she discovered his abnormality, he might end up being dissected.

He didn’t say a word, his gaze already shifted to the chair next to him, where an old set of clothes lay.

Seeing him actually seem to be leaving, Jiang He raised an eyebrow, her words becoming colder, “In a few months, you’ll be joining the Exploration Team. Once you leave the city, you’ll be nothing but a corpse.”

She seemed to be warning him, or perhaps threatening him, but Su Chen felt it was more like exasperation. He still didn’t respond.

As she said, as a low-class vagrant like him, he still had some human rights in the city.

Even if Jiang He had an unusual identity, she couldn’t easily do anything to him. But once outside Southwind City, he would be pure cannon fodder.

Amidst the rustling, he had already put on his clothes, still maintaining the original owner’s persona of being taciturn, and then pushed the door open to leave.

Jiang He merely scoffed at his actions. The self-esteem of a low-class vagrant was like a fat woman’s chest—meaningless.

But she was still somewhat annoyed. She had thought she would have a good time tonight and acquire a nice little trinket, but it turned out…

As she was thinking, her vision suddenly went dark.

    *Crack!*

The sound of a glass breaking came from behind, and Su Chen, whose heart was already in his throat, instantly turned his head.

The solemnness in his eyes flashed and then disappeared, ready to equip the gift from his previous life at any moment. Even if it only brought him a slight ability to resist, it was better than being captured without a fight.

But the next second, the solemnness in his eyes was replaced by shock. Jiang He was already curled up on the carpet in pain, letting out low moans.

Shards of glass were scattered around, some already cutting her delicate skin.

    This…

    Su Chen’s brows furrowed.

“Heh… heh…” Jiang He let out low gasps, her whole body twitching uncontrollably, her voice intermittent.

    “…Find… Emergency… Department…”

The Emergency Department, an institution in Southwind City specially responsible for emergency rescue within the city, with a hefty price for each dispatch.

Su Chen hesitated slightly, his gaze sweeping past the sofa behind her to the brown long table in the distance, where a small, delicate silver metal bracelet lay.

He didn’t know what had happened, suspecting Jiang He might have suffered an acute illness. To help or not to help?

Before his thoughts settled, a faint *click* sounded from behind him, followed by a shrill voice.

“If I were you, I’d stay put.”

He turned his head cautiously, only to see two blurry figures, one tall and one short, come into view. Their surfaces seemed to be covered in a layer of shadow, like moving mosaics under the light.

The taller mosaic extended an arm, and Su Chen realized that the mosaic was actually a piece of clothing.

He took off his clothes, extremely burly, and stared at him fiercely.

The shorter one was slowly closing the door, his eyes dark and gloomy, nostrils turned up and chin pointed, with a faint, chilling smile playing on his lips.

    “Jiang He…”

The other party’s gaze merely swept over him before settling on the woman writhing on the ground, shamelessly lingering on her exposed skin, which she couldn’t cover due to the pain.

“Tsk, tsk…” He let out two ambiguous clicks of his tongue. Jiang He struggled to lift her head, her face pale, her forehead covered in dense beads of sweat. She tried to suppress the pain in her body, squeezing out a few words through gritted teeth:

“This is a private residence. Who… are you? What… do you want?”

“As expected of an Arcane Apprentice who has undergone the Whispering Trial, her endurance is strong. She can still speak after drinking the Dried Grass Potion…”

The short man spoke slowly and walked straight forward, his gaze sweeping over Su Chen. He was lowering his head, seemingly scared stiff, his eyes unfocused, showing no reaction.

He didn’t care. He knew the other party’s information very well; this was the reaction a low-status citizen should have.

But Su Chen was very surprised, looking at the transparent screen that no one else could see—

[Discovered Tier 1 advanced profession – Arcane Apprentice. Can be employed after meeting promotion conditions.]

[Discovered one of the Arcane Apprentice employment conditions: Whispering Trial: In complete darkness, draw an inverted cross on your chest with your own blood, listen to unknown voices, and persist for thirty seconds.]
