Chapter 191: Could it be Now?
by AshPurgatory2025The sun was setting behind the western mountains. Having finished catching insects, Yaya returned and was sticking her bottom up while teasing a Pomelo Cicada.
Lin Xun took a special look at this insect, a local specialty of Luo City.
This Pomelo Cicada looked a bit like a summer cicada, but it was pomelo-colored. Its cry was a bit strange, constantly chirping ‘Yo, yo, yo.’
Lin Xun almost shouted out, ‘Check it out!’
Other than that, there was nothing special about the Pomelo Cicada.
As she played, Yaya opened her mouth wide and swallowed the Pomelo Cicada in one gulp. Her snowy-white fox tail wagged happily behind her.
“Something’s not right. Something’s a bit off.”
As for Lin Xun, he sat in the courtyard waiting for his wife to return.
He looked at the sky and calculated the time.
“It’s already six o’clock. This isn’t right. Did something happen at the Luocheng City Lords Mansion? Are they working overtime this late?”
Although Lin Xun knew he didn’t need to worry about Qinger’s safety—after all, she was the sister of the City Lord of Luocheng, Qu Ke, and she had the hairpin he gave her—it was impossible for anything to happen.
But Lin Xun just couldn’t feel at ease.
While Lin Xun was lost in thought, Yaya suddenly raised her head on the other side of the courtyard. Her small nose twitched as she sniffed, and her large, watery eyes immediately lit up.
“Sister Qinger!”
Yaya opened her small arms and ran toward the outside of the courtyard.
Before long, Lin Xun saw Qinger walking into the courtyard carrying Yaya.
Only then did Lin Xun breathe a sigh of relief, while also feeling that he had been overly worried about Qinger.
“I’m sorry, Husband. There were many matters in Luo City today, so I’ve returned a bit late.” Jiang Qingshang gently set Yaya down. “Husband must be hungry. I’ll go cook lunch for you.”
“Mm, it’s fine. It’s still… Hmm?”
Lin Xun had originally wanted to say it was still early.
But upon hearing her, he realized something was wrong.
Lunch?
Wasn’t it dinner?
Before Lin Xun could object, he saw Jiang Qing walking toward the kitchen, her steps even feeling a bit heavy.
“Brother Lin, Sister Qinger seems a bit unhappy.”
Yaya walked over to Lin Xun’s side and gave his leg a nudge with her short little hands.
“Indeed,” Lin Xun nodded. “Let’s observe a bit more.”
Logically, it shouldn’t be. Qingshang couldn’t possibly have any troubles at work. Qinger already knew about him going to the brothel to listen to music, and she hadn’t said anything before.
And he really was just listening to music.
Then what was the reason?
Clang, clang.
Just as Lin Xun was wondering, the sound of pots and pans hitting the floor came from the kitchen.
Lin Xun turned to look and saw Qinger staring blankly at the fallen pots and pans.
Moreover, Lin Xun hadn’t seen this kind of clumsiness for many days.
But a clumsy Qinger was also truly adorable.
Half an hour later, the meal was ready. When Qinger brought the dishes to the courtyard, she clearly had finished, yet she went back to the kitchen once more.
During the meal, Qinger kept poking at the rice in her bowl. She ate whatever Lin Xun put in her bowl, almost as if she were being fed.
When washing the dishes, Qinger washed them over and over again. Lin Xun began to feel bad for her hands.
“Alright, stop washing. If you keep going, you’ll wash the bowl until it breaks.”
Lin Xun distressedly took Qinger’s small hands out of the water, wiped them on his own clothes, and held them tightly in his palms.
When they first got married, Lin Xun wanted to wash the dishes in her place, but Qinger firmly refused, stating it was a wife’s duty.
Lin Xun couldn’t win against her and had to give up.
However, in the year since they married, Qinger’s small hands were still as delicate as they were before the wedding, not having become rough at all.
“How long have I been washing?”
Realizing she was still washing, Jiang Qingshang’s cheeks flushed slightly as she lowered her head.
“It’s been the time it takes for an incense stick to burn.” Lin Xun gently stroked Jiang Qingshang’s long hair and pulled her into his embrace. “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
“No, nothing really happened.”
Leaning in her husband’s embrace, Jiang Qingshang spoke hesitantly.
“Are you going to tell me?”
Lin Xun let go of Jiang Qing’s small hands and tickled her waist.
“Wait, Husband, don’t tickle… Hahaha… Husband, stop messing around.”
Tickled, Jiang Qingshang laughed until tears formed in her eyes. She struggled gently in Lin Xun’s arms, but he wouldn’t let her off.
“Are you going to tell me?”
“I won’t. I won’t tell you.”
“Oh? So I can’t handle you?”
Knowing his wife’s greatest weakness, Lin Xun sat Jiang Qingshang down on a stone bench in the courtyard, took off her small embroidered shoes and white socks, held her fair and flawless jade-like feet in his arms, and tickled the soles of her feet.
“Hahahaha… Husband, it tickles! Husband, I’ve learned my lesson!”
Having her soles tickled, Jiang Qingshang let out a crisp, bell-like laugh. Her small feet kicked gently in her husband’s arms as she tried to escape his clutches.
But she didn’t dare use too much force, fearing she might hurt her husband.
“Still not talking?” Lin Xun tickled her soles with one hand and her slender waist with the other.
“I’ll tell you! I’ll tell you!”
“Do you know you were wrong?”
“Yes, I know I was wrong.”
“It’s good that you know.”
Lin Xun stopped tickling. Jiang Qingshang leaned in his arms, panting weakly. Before meeting Lin Xun, she never imagined the soles of her feet would be so ticklish.
But besides Lin Xun, no one else had ever touched her ankles.
“Does Husband truly want to know?”
Holding Lin Xun’s waist, Jiang Qingshang asked softly.
“Of course. I want to see exactly what kind of matter has made my invincible wife so heavy-hearted.” Lin Xun smiled and kissed Jiang Qingshang’s fair forehead.
“Invincible? You clearly only know how to tickle me.”
Jiang Qingshang pouted her small mouth, clenched her delicate fists, and lightly hammered Lin Xun’s chest.
Although she looked a bit annoyed, her eyes were filled with happiness.
However, remembering her Master’s words today at the Zilin Holy Land, Jiang Qingshang’s eyes lowered slightly. “Husband, there is an elder in my family who wishes to meet you.”
“An elder? Is it your parents, Qinger?”
A year ago, Lin Xun and Jiang Qingshang got married. It was entirely a marriage of their own choice, the kind where neither side met the other’s family.
Mainly because Lin Xun couldn’t possibly take Jiang Qingshang to the Ten Thousand Demon Sect, and Jiang Qingshang couldn’t take Lin Xun back to the Zilin Holy Land.
But Jiang Qingshang didn’t suspect much because, in her heart, Lin Xun was the type who roamed the Jianghu and whose parents had both passed away.
In Lin Xun’s impression, Jiang Qingshang was a young lady from a prestigious family who had sneaked out, only for this “cabbage” to accidentally encounter him and be “uprooted” by him.
After getting married, Lin Xun wanted to meet his parents-in-law, but Qinger never mentioned it, and Lin Xun didn’t feel right asking.
After all, everyone has things that are hard to talk about. Even between a husband and wife, privacy is needed.
Could it be that now, he was finally going to meet his father-in-law and mother-in-law?
