Chapter Index

“Wait? What’s going on? A scam? Did I just run into a scammer?”

As Lin Xun walked into the small alleyway, he saw a young girl dressed in a black dress collapsed on the ground.

Judging by her figure and the delicate features between her brows, the girl appeared to be no more than sixteen years old.

The girl wore a black veil, but even through it, Lin Xun could sense the beautiful shape of her small, melon-seed face.

Lying on her side, her figure was revealed; while not as exaggerated as Nong Qin’s or as curvaceous as his own Qinger’s, she gave off a perfectly pure feeling, like a high school girl in a JK uniform.

This couldn’t be a scam, could it?

Would this little girl suddenly jump up and grab him the moment he approached, screaming harassment, followed by several big men jumping out to pull off a ‘badger game’ trap?

After all, in this dark, deserted alleyway, it really was possible.

“Whatever, if someone really tries to trap me, I’ll just have to beat them senseless,” Lin Xun muttered to himself.

Besides, Lin Xun felt that as a teacher, he had a certain responsibility to persuade a wayward girl to return to the right path.

    “Hey, little sister? Little sister?”

Walking to her side, Lin Xun crouched down and gently patted her small face, which was as tender as tofu.

But with that gentle pat, Lin Xun felt a bone-eroding charm attempting to invade his heart!

Lin Xun quickly pulled his hand back and dispersed the bone-eroding charm.

“Little sister, are you alright?” Refusing to believe it, Lin Xun called out again, increasing the force of his hand until her tender face beneath the veil was almost patted red by him.

However, she still didn’t wake up, and that charm was blocked by Lin Xun, giving it no chance to take hold.

A trace of spiritual Qi seeped from his fingertips as Lin Xun probed the condition inside the girl’s body.

Her primordial yin was still intact, her breathing was steady, and her bone age was sixteen.

“Hiss, good heavens, she really is a Cultivator, and in the Nascent Soul Realm at that! And she has Naturally Alluring Bones!”

A sixteen-year-old girl in the Nascent Soul Realm? With Naturally Alluring Bones?!

Although Lin Xun himself had reached the Jade Purity Realm at twelve, he knew he might be an anomaly and couldn’t be compared to ordinary people.

But for this girl to be at the Nascent Soul stage at sixteen—average Sects wouldn’t have such a Genius; she must be from some large Sect.

And on top of that, these innate Naturally Alluring Bones.

    Wait?

Lin Xun took another look at the girl! A newspaper he had read recently flashed through his mind.

The newspaper mentioned that the Saintess of the Huanxi Sect had appeared outside Luo City and had a conflict with the Zilin Holy Land, and was being hunted by them.

    Ah, this…

No way, right? It couldn’t be such a coincidence, could it?

    “I didn’t see anything, I didn’t see anything. I can’t persuade this girl, I’m out of here, I’m out.”

Lin Xun stood up to leave. He didn’t want any involvement with the Saintess of the Huanxi Sect. You don’t look for me, I won’t bother you. I’m leaving.

    *Cough, cough, cough, cough, cough*

But just as Lin Xun took a step, he heard her coughing violently. Turning around, he saw blood already overflowing from the corner of her mouth.

Looking at the sky, it was already night.

This Saintess of the Huanxi Sect was now incredibly weak, unable to even fight off a Mortal. If she ran into some thugs…

Ah, I don’t dare think about it, I don’t dare think about it. One thought and things start heading in an inhumane direction.

Dammit! Why did I have to run into this kind of thing?

If he hadn’t encountered her, whatever happened to this Saintess of the Huanxi Sect would be none of his business.

But since he had, if he just left her here, he felt like he’d be a bystander watching someone die, like an indirect killer. His conscience would be plagued.

Even though she was a woman from the Huanxi Sect, she was still just a girl who hadn’t seen much of the world, only sixteen years old… though in ancient times, sixteen was already old enough to get married.

“Sigh, fine. Girl, it’s your luck that you met an old softie like me.”

Lin Xun gave a long sigh, hoisted her onto his back, and left the alley.

“Brother Lin, who is this big sister?”

Back at the courtyard, Lin Xun placed her on Yaya’s bed.

Yaya stood to the side, blinking as she looked at the veiled big sister.

“Your Brother Lin doesn’t know either. I picked her up on the road,” Lin Xun replied while using spiritual Qi to regulate her body.

    “Brother Lin.”

    “Hmm?”

“How come Brother Lin always manages to pick up beautiful big sisters and bring them home?”

    “…”

    “Yaya.”

    “Hmm?”

“Your Brother Lin is doing a good deed.”

“Oh~” Yaya nodded half-understandingly, though she didn’t know why Brother Lin brought back a big sister every time he did a good deed.

“Yaya,” Lin Xun looked at Yaya seriously and earnestly, his hands holding her small shoulders, “Sister Qinger must not know about this, okay?”

    “Brother Lin, why is that?”

“Because… your Brother Lin likes to do good deeds without leaving a name. Qinger already likes me a lot; I can’t let her like me even more because of my excellent character.”

“Oh~~~” Yaya nodded as if she understood, “Yaya will listen to Brother Lin.”

“Good, Yaya is so well-behaved.” Lin Xun rubbed Yaya’s head.

Soon, Lin Xun had finished regulating her breathing slightly. The process wouldn’t leave any traces, so she wouldn’t suspect he was a Cultivator.

In truth, her injuries weren’t heavy at all; she was mainly exhausted of spiritual Qi and physical strength.

    She just needed proper rest.

As for how many days she would need to recover, Lin Xun wasn’t sure.

While Lin Xun could have performed ‘mana replenishment’ for her, doing so would surely make her suspicious of him the moment she woke up. There was no need.

Anyway, it wouldn’t take too long. She would wake up eventually, and once she did and there were no problems, he would send her on her way.

However, Lin Xun still brewed a few doses of Qi-replenishing medicine for her. Even for a Cultivator, and even with ordinary herbs, his prescriptions were still somewhat useful.

It was like drinking Ban Lan Gen for a cold; it was better than nothing.

But seeing her clothes covered in dust and mud, Lin Xun went out to buy a set of clothes and then had Yaya change her into them.

In the evening, after dinner, he gave her pulse one last check before going to sleep.

Since Yaya’s bed was occupied, Yaya could only happily curl up against Lin Xun’s chest to sleep.

Sometimes Yaya would reveal her original fox form while sleeping. Lin Xun quite liked that; after all, it was winter, and sleeping while holding a fluffy fox kept him warm.

    One day, two days…

Every day, following Lin Xun’s instructions, Yaya would change her clothes and then bathe her. Lin Xun was only responsible for propping her up from the bed, prying her mouth open, and then having Yaya feed her.

    The third day.

Late at night, with the moon overhead, the night watchman outside the courtyard beat his gongs and drums.

The cry of “The weather is dry, watch out for fires” drifted lazily through the air.

Even in late autumn, braving the cold wind, they remained dedicated to their duty.

In Yaya’s room in the courtyard, the woman lying on the bed frowned, and a pair of clear cat-tailed peach blossom eyes slowly opened.
