Chapter Index

    “Hm?”

Looking at the frail young girl blocking his path, Lin Xun was stunned for a moment.

Could it be that Bai Luoxue was really Life Qi because he had stood her up?

But looking at those blinking cat-tailed peach blossom eyes, she didn’t seem to be in a state of Life Qi at all.

By the way, had this silly girl, Bai Luoxue, ever been in a state of Life Qi before?

    “What’s wrong?” Lin Xun asked.

This was the first time this silly girl had blocked him, preventing him from doing something.

“The porridge isn’t ready yet.” Lifting her head and looking directly into Lin Xun’s eyes, the young girl spoke softly.

“Not ready yet? It’s been so many hours.” No matter how he thought about it, Lin Xun didn’t believe the porridge wasn’t done.

Moreover, he was supposed to come at noon; logically, this silly girl should have finished it long ago.

“It was ready before, but it isn’t ready now.” Bai Luoxue thought for a moment and explained seriously.

Perhaps this was the best explanation she could come up with.

“…” Question marks had already popped up over Lin Xun’s head. “Are you Life Qi?”

“Life Qi?” Bai Luoxue tilted her head and then shook it. “I am not Life Qi.”

Although Bai Luoxue didn’t know what it felt like to be Life Qi, she knew what Life Qi meant.

It was… a very, very fierce feeling… But Bai Luoxue felt she wasn’t fierce right now, nor did she know how to be.

So she wasn’t Life Qi… probably… “Then why can’t you let me in?”

    “The porridge isn’t ready.”

    “???”

Seeing Lin Xun’s questioning expression, Bai Luoxue lowered her head, thought for a bit, and then changed her explanation: “The porridge doesn’t taste good anymore.”

Bai Luoxue cradled the Little Calico Cat in her arms, her eyes blinking. A moment later, Bai Luoxue looked up and gazed seriously at Lin Xun:

“How about I make it for you next time?”

Hearing Bai Luoxue’s words, Lin Xun understood the reason she wouldn’t let him in.

It was very likely that the porridge had been ready since noon, but because she had waited for him for too long, the texture had changed.

Looking into Bai Luoxue’s eyes, guilt flooded Lin Xun’s heart once more:

“It’s fine. It’s the middle of winter; forget about an afternoon, it wouldn’t go bad even if it sat for three days. I’m hungry now and just happen to want some. If you keep blocking me, I’ll be Life Qi.

I’m not lying to you. Once, in a state of extreme hunger and Life Qi, I took down a tiger with a Sliding Tackle!”

With that, without waiting for Bai Luoxue to stop him, Lin Xun walked straight into the Tofu Shop.

Watching Lin Xun’s back as he walked straight into the backyard, the young girl lowered her eyes and stood there, cradling her cat.

“Hey, what are you standing there for? Come here.” Lin Xun turned back to look at the girl still standing at the door. “You’re the host and I’m the guest. Shouldn’t you be hosting me?”

Standing at the door, Bai Luoxue’s eyes blinked as she watched Lin Xun.

    “Oh…”

After about half a stick of incense’s time, the girl’s mental circuits finally caught up, and she jogged after him while holding the cat.

This was the first time Lin Xun had come to the backyard where Bai Luoxue lived.

The layout of this small courtyard belonging to the Tofu Shop was extremely simple.

There was only a stone table and a few stone stools in the courtyard, and nothing else.

Covered in white snow with white walls, looking up, there was only a small kitchen and a room with a closed door.

This room was likely Bai Luoxue’s boudoir.

“The porridge doesn’t taste good.” Standing beside Lin Xun, the girl holding the kitten still insisted.

“Whether it tastes good or not is for me to decide,” Lin Xun said with a smile. “Where’s the porridge?”

    “Kitchen.”

“Mm.” Lin Xun nodded and headed toward the kitchen.

He had to finish the porridge before Qinger and Yaya returned.

Otherwise, if Qinger found out he hadn’t come back because of a stomachache but to eat porridge at the Legendary Beauty’s place, she would definitely make him explode on the spot.

But the moment Lin Xun stepped into the kitchen, he froze.

Inside the kitchen, there were several clay pots, each containing prepared egg drop porridge.

And on the stove, there was even more egg drop porridge being kept warm over a low flame.

“Why… why did you make so much?”

Looking at the egg drop porridge, Lin Xun reached out to touch the bottom of a pot. The porridge on the counter was already cold, and some had even clumped together, looking like they had been made quite a while ago.

Then he looked at the eggshells in the trash basket.

There were enough eggs to make four or five pots of egg drop porridge.

At this moment, Lin Xun remembered what Qinger had said before: “After egg drop porridge is made, it can only be kept warm over a low flame for the duration of two sticks of incense. After that, the texture changes.”

So whenever Qinger made egg drop porridge in the morning, she would start at most one stick of incense’s time in advance.

    In other words…

Bai Luoxue had finished a pot of egg drop porridge at noon, but when he didn’t show up, she remade a pot every two sticks of incense’s time until now.

Now, Lin Xun understood what Bai Luoxue meant by “not ready.”

This pot was probably made with the last of the ingredients she had bought, yet he still hadn’t arrived within the two-incense-stick window after it was finished.

Lin Xun even imagined this silly girl making egg drop porridge for him, waiting in the courtyard after finishing, yet he never appeared.

But even if he didn’t come, after two sticks of incense, this silly girl would still walk into the kitchen and start brewing the porridge again.

There might even have been failures in between.

Looking at the girl beside him holding the Little Calico Cat, she felt his gaze and looked up to meet his eyes.

“Are you stupid?” After a long while, Lin Xun blurted out those four words with a complicated heart, his tone carrying a hint of reproach.

Bai Luoxue thought Lin Xun was scolding her for not being able to make the porridge well, so she lowered her eyes. “I’ll do better next time.”

Lifting her head, the girl’s eyes blinked as she looked at Lin Xun. “Lin Xun, will you come again next time?”

    “I’m not coming next time.”

“Oh.” Hearing Lin Xun’s words, the girl lowered her eyes. In those calm eyes, one couldn’t tell if she was disappointed or something else; it seemed her eyes were always this tranquil.

“You don’t know Life Qi, you don’t know disappointment, you don’t know happiness, and you certainly don’t know what love is, yet you’re thinking of abducting me to your Huanxi Sect.”

Lin Xun took a deep breath to calm his complicated feelings, but he couldn’t help but flick her little forehead with his finger.

“Clearly the Saintess of the Huanxi Sect, why are you like this white snow?

It’s lucky that the Lin Xun you’re looking for is a good person like me.

If the Lin Xun you were looking for was truly that Devil Head from the rumors, do you know you’d be eaten up completely? What would you do then?”

    “Then I…”

Bai Luoxue placed her slender hand on her slightly aching head where Lin Xun had just flicked it, her eyes blinking as she looked at him.

“Then I… then I’ll let you eat me.”
