Chapter Index

“If I place my hand in your palm now, will you push me away?”

Xia Xiaomeng’s fingertips lightly tugged at the hem of Lin Xun’s clothes. Her eyes held only his reflection, as if her moon-like gaze was about to melt into water upon him.

Lin Xun’s mouth opened slightly, wanting to answer, but for a moment, he didn’t know how to reply.

At that moment, Xia Xiaomeng’s small hand, delicate as a freshly peeled bamboo shoot, gently reached towards Lin Xun’s broad palm.

Lin Xun’s palm was like a brazier burning with flames, yet Xia Xiaomeng was the moth flying towards the fire.

Xia Xiaomeng’s small hand drew closer and closer to Lin Xun’s palm. The distance between her hand and his was clearly less than half a meter, yet it felt like the North and South Poles.

Her hand moved forward slowly, agonizingly slow, as if an entire century had passed.

Just as Xia Xiaomeng’s small hand was about to nestle into Lin Xun’s palm, Lin Xun’s fingers twitched slightly. Yet his hand remained there, unmoving, waiting for this little moth flying into the fire.

Lin Xun himself didn’t know what he was feeling at this moment.

He wanted to pull away, because on the other side of that door was Qinger.

But Lin Xun was afraid, afraid that if he moved his hand away, this girl would be heartbroken!

He knew this feeling of his was very wrong. He *should* pull away. Yet Lin Xun found his hand simply wouldn’t move, only his fingers giving a dying struggle.

In the end, just as Lin Xun was about to feel the softness of the girl’s small hand, Xia Xiaomeng’s lips curved into a slight smile. She stepped forward, and her hand, instead, slid along Lin Xun’s arm to gently stroke his cheek.

Lifting her head, Xia Xiaomeng’s eyes now held a smile: “Don’t worry, Qinger is still inside. I won’t put you in a difficult position. And besides…”

Rising on her tiptoes, Xia Xiaomeng’s warm, moist breath gently brushed the fine hairs by Lin Xun’s ear: “…and one day, I will make you take my hand yourself! And never want to let go!”

Just like when they were children, Xia Xiaomeng raised her slender arm and gently patted the top of Lin Xun’s head. Then, satisfied, she pushed open the door: “Qinger, we’re back.”

Watching the girl’s slender, graceful back enter the courtyard, Lin Xun only then realized his back was soaked with sweat.

Lin Xun’s heart temporarily relaxed with a sigh of relief. But he knew even more clearly that this matter was far from over.

In the courtyard, the three girls—Jiang Qing, Xia Xiaomeng, and Jiang Nongqin—busied themselves together in the kitchen. The lively, melodious sounds of their chatter drifted leisurely through the yard, very pleasant to hear.

Lin Xun, being the lazy bum, naturally waited in the yard for the meal to be ready.

Yet, looking from the yard at the three girls’ beautifully intermingling figures, Lin Xun let out a soft sigh and couldn’t help but look up at the moon: “Ah… what sin have I committed?”

This dinner was very sumptuous, but Lin Xun ate every bite with trepidation.

Especially when Qinger served food to Lin Xun, Xia Xiaomeng would pout her little mouth slightly each time, and Jiang Nongqin’s gaze would also secretly drift towards Lin Xun, her eyes filled with envy and longing.

For some reason, Lin Xun felt he had done absolutely nothing! Yet he seemed like a scumbag! It was even more like he had brought two lovers to the dining table right in front of his wife, as if they were secret affairs.

How did it come to this???

What was the reason it had ultimately evolved into this situation?

However, Lin Xun also knew that the current situation was actually considered good.

If Nong Qin knew he was Lin Xun… If the person he married wasn’t Sister Mimi’s good friend…

Forget about what Nong Qin might do!

At the very least! Sister Mimi had already declared her sovereignty! Just like when they were children.

The meal was finally finished. Lin Xun felt as if he had just attended a treacherous banquet!

After dinner, Xia Xiaomeng prepared to leave.

After all, although there was a guest room, it hadn’t been cleaned at all. Lin Xun had been using it as a storage room. Xia Xiaomeng couldn’t sleep there even if she wanted to, unless… they squeezed together with Lin Xun.

    Of course, that was impossible.

“Qinger, if your sister wanted to use the same thing as you, would you refuse?”

Outside the courtyard, Xia Xiaomeng asked Jiang Qingshang with a smile, right in front of Lin Xun.

Hearing this, Lin Xun’s heart nearly jumped into his throat!

He didn’t even dare to look at his own wife!

“Whatever Sister wants, Qinger will give it to you,” Jiang Qingshang replied straightforwardly.

Hearing Qinger’s answer, Xia Xiaomeng was momentarily stunned, then smiled, but didn’t say anything more.

“Let me escort Sister back to the City Lord’s Manor,” Jiang Qingshang offered, making as if to stride forward with her long legs.

But Lin Xun stepped forward first, taking the lantern from Xia Xiaomeng’s hand.

“I’ll escort Miss Xia to the City Lord’s Manor. I just happened to leave something at the academy, so I can pick it up on the way. Qinger, you rest well at home and wait for me to return.”

Lin Xun swore! Even if struck by lightning! He would absolutely not let Qinger and Sister Mimi be alone together!

Otherwise! Who knows, one day he might wake up to find his head floating on some boat.

Xia Xiaomeng glanced lightly at Lin Xun, easily seeing through his thoughts. Yet she accepted the proposal because it meant she could spend a little more time with him: “Indeed, Qinger, you must be very tired. It’s better to rest early. Let Young Master Lin escort me.”

Xia Xiaomeng still addressed him as ‘Young Master Lin’, not ‘brother-in-law’!

In Xia Xiaomeng’s heart, even if she died! She would never regard Xiao Xun as her brother-in-law!

    “Alright then.”

Jiang Qingshang felt something was a bit strange, but couldn’t pinpoint what.

As for feeling reluctant to part with her sister or anything like that, naturally, there was none of that.

They were all Cultivators. Time was long, and meeting again was just a matter of a single thought.

And so, Lin Xun held up the lantern to escort Xia Xiaomeng back to the City Lord’s Manor.

However, as they walked, Lin Xun noticed his surroundings were once again enveloped by a faint green light.

This was a one-way spatial Magic Formation. One could see out from the inside, but not in from the outside. It also blocked all external Divine Sense probing.

This formation was useless against Upper Five Realms Royal Attendants, of course.

But since Her Majesty had isolated the outside, it meant she had private matters to discuss. Naturally, they couldn’t probe. On the contrary, they had to be vigilant against any Cultivators trying to probe from outside!

Thus, within the green light, a truly private space was formed. Lin Xun could scream his lungs out inside to no avail.

And then Lin Xun started panicking again!

He was very worried he might get forcefully taken advantage of inside! Wouldn’t that disgrace my Overlord reputation?

But as they walked on, Lin Xun noticed Sister Mimi seemed unusually silent. She just kept her head down, walking step by step beside him.

“I was the one who came first!”

After a long while, the girl finally spoke, her tone so soft it was heartbreaking.

    “Huh?”

    Lin Xun was taken aback.

He saw Xia Xiaomeng lift her head to look at him. Her eyes shimmered with a misty haze, brimming with grievance:

“Meeting you, falling for you… I was clearly the first in everything!”
