Chapter Index

    Was she really leaving tomorrow?

Jiang Nongqin lowered her head, the loss and regret in her eyes making Wormwood’s heart ache so much she wanted to pull the young girl into her arms and comfort her.

    ‘But this doesn’t make sense.’

Watching Jiang Nongqin’s sorrowful expression, it took a moment for Wormwood to react.

She had been constantly swayed by Sister Nongqin’s emotions, but in truth, Sister Nongqin’s feelings seemed very misplaced.

Even if Sister Nongqin had lived in Luo City for many years, she shouldn’t have such deep feelings; she shouldn’t be this heartbroken.

It was as if… as if she were about to leave her beloved.

    Wait.

    A beloved?!

Suddenly, Wormwood remembered the scholar who appeared at the door that day when she came to visit Nong Qin!

He was able to appear in Sister Nongqin’s courtyard, and when she had mistakenly thought he had done something to Sister Nongqin and tried to kill him, Sister Nongqin’s nervousness then, and how she cried so heartbrokenly that day—no matter how she asked, Sister Nongqin wouldn’t give a reason.

And then there was the fact that Sister Nongqin suddenly wanted to move out of the Spring Breeze Tower and into this alleyway, which just happened to be right next door to that scholar…

She had thought it was because this place was quiet and secluded and Sister Nongqin liked the peace, but in reality! It was for the scholar living next door!

“Sister Nongqin, do you like that scholar named Lin Pei?” Wormwood exclaimed in shock, as if she had discovered a new continent, her small hand involuntarily covering her mouth.

Hearing her inner thoughts spoken aloud, the girl’s shoulders trembled. After a surge of internal turmoil, the fingers gripping her skirt turned slightly white, and she lowered her head even further; Wormwood even suspected her head might bury itself into the deep valley of her neckline.

    “Sister Nongqin?” Wormwood asked again.

“…” But Jiang Nongqin still did not answer.

In truth, the girl didn’t need to answer anymore; Wormwood already knew the answer.

Having realized the answer, Wormwood’s expression also grew tense.

Nong Qin was His Highness the Demon Son’s woman; in life she belonged to His Highness, and in death her soul belonged to His Highness.

But now, Sister Nongqin had fallen for another man—what was to be done!

This was no different from betrayal.

In fact, this was even more serious than betrayal!

What was so good about that scholar anyway? He was nothing more than a bit handsome, and his body looked a bit sturdier than an average scholar’s.

Other than that, he didn’t seem to have any special talents…

How could Sister Nongqin fall for him?

Furthermore, that scholar Lin Pei seemed to already be married.

He was already married; even if Sister Nongqin married into his family, she could only be a Secondary Wife.

Could it be that Sister Nongqin actually preferred that?

    “Sigh…”

Looking at the girl who had her head lowered, her cheeks flushed red—even to the back of her ears—Wormwood let out a soft sigh.

No matter how much she speculated, it was already meaningless.

Now that the seeds of love had been sown, it was too late for everything.

Actually, thinking carefully, it wasn’t that she couldn’t understand Sister Nongqin.

After all, back then the Ten Thousand Demon Sect was filled with rumors that “His Highness the Demon Son lusts after Jiang Nongqin of the Magic Zither Hall,” which led to Sister Nongqin growing more and more beautiful as she aged, yet no one dared to pursue her.

Even Sister Nongqin going to His Highness’s courtyard every day to play the zither was said to be forced by His Highness Lin Xun; in truth, Sister Nongqin wasn’t willing.

Originally, Wormwood didn’t quite believe these rumors; she felt that Sister Nongqin had feelings for His Highness.

But looking at it now, those rumors were likely true.

Perhaps Sister Nongqin had never truly given her heart to His Highness and everything was just out of coercion, and now, Sister Nongqin had found her true love…

So what should be done now?

Kill that Lin Pei and just end it once and for all?

No! Sister Nongqin finally found happiness, how could she do such a thing!

This devoted girl might just break down on the spot.

But, putting aside the betrayal of His Highness, who knew how Her Highness Su Ying would deal with her.

Just the fact that once Sister Nongqin returned to the Ten Thousand Demon Sect, there was no telling when she would return to Luo City; perhaps by the next time she came back, Lin Pei’s son would already be getting married.

“Sister Nongqin!” Suddenly, Wormwood reached out and grabbed Nong Qin’s fair, tender hand.

“Sister Wormwood?” Nong Qin raised her eyes, which were filled with a watery mist, and looked at Wormwood.

“Sister Nongqin! You and that Lin Pei should elope!” Finally, Wormwood suggested!

“???” The girl was filled with question marks, “Eh?”

“Don’t worry, Sister Nongqin, I won’t reveal a single word about you to the Sect. When the time comes, I will report back to Her Highness Su Ying that when I went to fetch Sister Nongqin, you had already vanished without a trace.”

The more Wormwood spoke, the more she felt her plan was feasible.

“Yes, let’s do that. Even though a hundred years from now that Lin Pei will return to the dust, it is still far better than leaving behind regrets now! Sister Nongqin, don’t hesitate anymore!”

“No, no.” Jiang Nongqin pulled her hand back and waved them hurriedly, “It’s not what Sister Wormwood thinks.”

“If it’s not that, then what is it? Anyway, Sister Nongqin, just leave everything to me. Sister Nongqin, you should set off tonight!”

“No, Sister Wormwood.” Nong Qin was almost crying from anxiety; how could she possibly drag His Highness into an elopement?

Even though she did indeed really want to elope with His Highness.

    But what about Sister Qinger…

No, no, His Highness wouldn’t elope with her at all…

But how should she explain? Tell Sister Wormwood that Young Master Lin is His Highness?

But if she told Sister Wormwood, Sister Su Ying would find out too.

But His Highness didn’t want to reveal his identity yet; His Highness surely had his own plans.

I can’t do that. That’s right, it’s not like I want to hide it from Sister Su Ying just so I can get close to His Highness alone.

“Alright, listen to me. I’ll help you pack your bags.”

“It’s not like that, Sister Wormwood,” Nong Qin quickly held Wormwood back, “Young Master Lin won’t leave with me.”

    “Won’t leave with you? Why?”

Wormwood felt like she was hearing the biggest lie in the world.

“Sister Nongqin, you must have confidence in yourself. With your figure and your face, even I as a woman am moved, let alone a man—and a Mortal at that!”

“No… Sister Wormwood, Nong Qin really cannot do this!” Nong Qin was already crying from anxiety.

“I understand.” Looking at the misty-eyed girl, Wormwood sighed softly.

“It’s good that Sister Wormwood understands.” Nong Qin breathed a sigh of relief, but soon, she raised her head and blinked at Wormwood, “What does Sister Wormwood understand?”

Wormwood shook her head: “Actually, Nong Qin, you want to repay Her Highness Su Ying for her years of protection, which is why you refuse to elope with Lin Pei, right?”

    Jiang Nongqin: “???”

【I worked overtime for too long today, my head is dizzy, so I can only do one chapter for now. I’ll update six thousand words tomorrow to make up for it. I definitely will this time, definitely.】
