Chapter Index

In the courtyard, after several failures, the young girl opened the clay pot once more.

Inside the clay pot, the plump grains of rice and the golden eggs were perfectly blended. The golden eggs enveloped the tender white rice, and the fragrance of the egg drop porridge drifted throughout the kitchen.

Her slender hand picked up a small wooden spoon, and she gently scooped up a spoonful. Lifting a corner of her veil, she blew a warm breeze from her cherry lips to slightly cool the egg drop porridge.

With her cherry lips slightly parted, the young girl took the small wooden spoon into her mouth, tasting the freshly made egg drop porridge.

    “It’s a success.”

The young girl blinked as she looked at the egg drop porridge in the clay pot.

In order to make the most delicious egg drop porridge by noon, the young girl had been trying incessantly since four in the morning.

During that time, she had used up all her ingredients, so she had gone to the market in the early morning to buy more eggs and rice.

Finally, as noon approached, she succeeded once.

    “Meow~~~”

Smelling the fragrance of the egg drop porridge, the little female cat jumped onto the kitchen counter, poking its head out to peer into the clay pot.

“You can’t have this,” Bai Luoxue said as she picked up the Little Calico Cat. “This is for Lin Xun to eat. I’ll make some for you next time.”

    “Meow.”

Although the Little Calico Cat didn’t understand what this beautiful Young Miss meant, it knew that it couldn’t eat this bowl of porridge.

But this porridge smelled so good.

Bai Luoxue gently placed the little white cat on the floor.

To keep the egg drop porridge at its best texture, Bai Luoxue kept it over a low flame, carefully maintaining its warmth while waiting for Lin Xun to arrive.

Sister Jiang had said that if the egg drop porridge was kept warm over a low flame, it could maintain its temperature for the duration of two sticks of incense without affecting the texture of the porridge.

This way, when Lin Xun arrived, he would be able to drink the most delicious egg drop porridge.

Having finished the preparations, Bai Luoxue walked out of the kitchen.

It had been snowing heavily just now, but it stopped as noon approached.

After clearing the white snow from the stone table and stool, Bai Luoxue sat on the stool, placed the Calico Cat on her shapely thighs, and waited for him to come.

The white snow in the courtyard, the girl in the white dress, the courtyard walls covered in snow.

It was clearly just a courtyard in the snow, as ordinary as could be, but with the girl sitting there, she looked like a princess in the snow.

It was as if this white snow was not a change of the seasons, but something brought by the girl herself.

One minute, two minutes, three minutes…

Gradually, one stick of incense passed, then two, yet the girl sitting in the courtyard still hadn’t seen him arrive.

    “Meow~”

In the girl’s arms, the Little Calico Cat licked the back of her snow-white hand, as if it were comforting her.

“It’s okay, he said he would come today,” Bai Luoxue said, gently stroking the Little Calico Cat’s head, her eyes blinking softly. “However, the porridge won’t taste good anymore. I have to cook it again.”

Jiang Qingshang had once told her that after two sticks of incense, the texture of the porridge would change and it wouldn’t be as delicious.

Bai Luoxue stood up and brought out the egg drop porridge she had worked so hard to cook.

The girl ate some herself and fed the rest to the little cat.

The person and the cat ate the egg drop porridge in the kitchen, though the girl didn’t eat as much as the cat.

Rolling up her sleeves, Bai Luoxue washed the rice again, cracked the eggs, and followed the recipe step by step to make the egg drop porridge.

Luckily, she succeeded once again this time.

Otherwise, Bai Luoxue knew that if Lin Xun came to her courtyard and she hadn’t prepared the porridge, he would leave and wouldn’t come back again.

Again keeping it warm over a low flame, the girl sat in the courtyard once more, waiting for his arrival, waiting for the wooden board of the Tofu Shop to be knocked on again.

One stick of incense, two sticks… after two sticks of incense, Lin Xun still had not come.

The texture of the porridge was no longer good, so Bai Luoxue stood up, went back into the kitchen, and made the porridge all over again.

However, this time, Bai Luoxue, who already had a very small appetite, couldn’t eat any more, and the Little Calico Cat’s belly was also round and bulging.

Recalling that he had said food should not be wasted, the girl never threw the porridge away, at the very least feeding it to the little cat.

“I’ll eat it slowly next time.”

Bai Luoxue set aside some of the egg drop porridge that no longer had a perfect texture, planning to finish it over several days.

On her third attempt at making the porridge, the girl failed; the egg hadn’t perfectly enveloped the rice, and the taste was a bit too salty.

On her fourth attempt, the girl succeeded again, but by now it was already the hour of sunset (five in the afternoon).

It was already a full five hours later than the time Lin Xun had said he would arrive.

But the girl still sat on the stone stool in the courtyard, looking at the distant sky, waiting for his arrival.

    From noon until sunset.

Winter days were much shorter. By now, the sun had already half-set, and the red sunset glow dyed the entire sky, painting the sky’s colors onto the white world below.

After another stick of incense passed, the girl turned her head to look at the egg drop porridge being kept warm over a low flame in the kitchen.

The ingredients she had bought in the morning were all used up. The winter market closed early, and it was already too late for her to go buy more.

“Can I not make it for him to eat today?”

The girl lowered her eyes slightly. On her snow-white fingers, there were still traces of egg drop.

Meanwhile, on the streets of Luo City, after returning from Luo Lake, Lin Xun was accompanying Jiang Qingshang and Yaya while they went shopping.

But for some reason, Lin Xun felt very uneasy, as if he had done something seriously wrong!

But the problem was, he hadn’t done anything today.

If there was anything wrong, it was that he had promised to go to Bai Luoxue’s place to drink porridge and then didn’t go. But he had already left a note; she should have seen it.

Could it be? That silly girl Bai Luoxue didn’t see the note he left?

That silly girl wouldn’t still be waiting for him, would she?

    Oh crap! It’s actually possible!

That Saintess of the Huanxi Sect is very stubborn.

As he thought of this possibility, it grew larger and larger in Lin Xun’s heart!

“Qinger, uh, my stomach seems to hurt a bit. I might need to head back first.” Lin Xun felt he needed to go take a look, otherwise he wouldn’t feel at ease.

“Eh? Is Husband alright?” Jiang Qing asked worriedly.

“I’m fine. It might be because the restaurant we ate at for lunch was too greasy. I’ll just go relieve myself. I’ll talk to you later, Qinger, I’m leaving now!”

Fearing that Qinger would notice something was wrong, Lin Xun clutched his stomach and quickly ran off.

“Sister Jiang, is Brother Lin okay?” Yaya gently pulled on Jiang Qingshang’s sleeve.

“He should be fine.” Looking in the direction Lin Xun ran, Jiang Qingshang’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Hmph! Husband is so abnormal today, it would be strange if nothing was wrong.

And why do I always feel like I’m going to have another sister?

Hmph! Whatever! Anyway, if Husband wants to take a concubine, that woman will have to beat me first. The door to the Lin family isn’t that easy to enter.
