Chapter Index

After getting in the car, Chen Feng took Sun Xiaorui to look for a place to live.

As they got to know each other, they realized that both of their current living situations were quite ordinary.

So, it was necessary for them to find a new place.

On Sun Xiaorui’s suggestion, they decided to look for a house nearby.

This was a bustling commercial district, so the rent was relatively expensive. But for the current Chen Feng, it was naturally nothing.

Since Sun Xiaorui was more familiar with the area, Chen Feng let her take the lead in the house hunt.

To find a reliable place, you either needed connections or had to go through an agent.

In the end, they chose to use an agent. After all, Chen Feng wasn’t concerned about the agent’s fee, and it gave them more options.

After looking at three properties, they finally chose a two-story villa that was closest to the embankment of Brightlake.

It was two hundred and eighty square meters with small yards in the front and back. The monthly rent was 30,000 yuan, with a two-month deposit and one month’s rent paid upfront, which was a pretty good deal.

The reason it seemed relatively cheap was that not many people rented this kind of small villa.

Those who could afford to spend so much on renting a villa usually had enough money to buy a house, while those without money couldn’t afford the rent.

Only someone like Chen Feng, who didn’t want to buy a house for the time being but had the money, would rent such a place.

The interior decoration was quite nice, a blend of classic and modern with a Chinese-style influence and a very reasonable layout. It had been professionally designed and renovated three years ago.

According to the landlord, it was originally intended for his parents to live in for their retirement, but they weren’t used to it after staying for a while and moved back to their old home in the countryside, so it had to be rented out.

The current market price for this house was about twenty million yuan, which Chen Feng truly couldn’t afford.

It could only be said that the landlord was seriously wealthy, using such a villa for his parents’ retirement.

Therefore, after renting this villa, Chen Feng didn’t feel rich anymore.

Because all his current savings weren’t enough to buy this small villa.

Because of this, Chen Feng suddenly had the idea of making more money again. Previously, he felt that with over ten million, it should be more than enough to last until he died.

But now he suddenly felt that if he really started spending freely, over ten million wouldn’t be enough at all.

Case in point, he couldn’t even afford this small villa.

However, this wasn’t a pressing issue for now.

The immediate task was to set up this “new home” for him and Sun Xiaorui.

They first went to their old rental apartments to move their things. By the time they finished all the work, the sky had already grown dark.

They didn’t start cooking at home right away but found a nearby restaurant for dinner.

After dinner, Sun Xiaorui dragged Chen Feng to the mall for a shopping spree.

Fortunately, they didn’t need to buy any large items for the villa. The bed was made of mahogany with a high-quality mattress, the refrigerator was an imported double-door model, the washing machine was a fully automatic front-loader, and the color TV was a brand-name 80-inch model. These items were only two or three years old and all in good condition.

So, they only needed to buy some bedding and daily necessities.

The trip only cost a few thousand yuan, but both of them were quite happy. Sun Xiaorui, in particular, had a constant smile on her face.

When they returned to the villa, they spent more time setting things up. It wasn’t until almost eleven o’clock that they had roughly arranged their new rented home.

They lay back together on the living room sofa, both feeling a bit tired but also filled with a sense of excitement.

“Let’s go take a shower together.”

After they had rested for a while, Chen Feng extended the invitation naturally.

Sun Xiaorui’s face flushed, but she nodded with a smile, then stood up and trotted towards the upstairs bathroom.

Chen Feng smiled, stood up, and followed her upstairs.

They both slept soundly that night, not waking up until after ten the next morning.

Sun Xiaorui woke up first. She put on her pajamas, went to the window, and pulled open the curtains. The midday sun shone in; the master bedroom faced south and had a balcony.

Opening a window, she could see some of the flowers and potted plants in their front yard. Through the courtyard wall, she could see the embankment of Brightlake in the distance, bustling with people on the weekend. She could also see a corner of Brightlake’s surface, its blue water shimmering with golden light.

She took a deep breath, feeling her whole being fill with vitality and joy.

Sun Xiaorui suddenly felt incredibly happy at this moment. Although this happiness might feel somewhat illusory if examined too closely, she was genuinely happy right now, and that was enough.

When Chen Feng woke up, he reached out to his side but found it empty, his hopes for a morning exercise session dashed.

He got out of bed, went to the bathroom to wash his face and brush his teeth. As he went downstairs, he smelled the aroma of fried eggs and green onions.

    “You’re up. Time to eat.”

Sun Xiaorui, wearing an apron, came out of the kitchen and greeted Chen Feng with a smile.

Chen Feng smiled back and said okay, then naturally went to sit down at the dining table.

This late breakfast was simple: two eggs sprinkled with chopped green onions and a glass of hot milk.

Sun Xiaorui quickly sat down beside him and said, “It’s almost noon, so let’s just have something simple for now. Then I’ll go grocery shopping and cook a proper meal to celebrate our new home. Is there anything you’d like to eat?”

“Sweet and sour pork ribs, fish head and tofu soup, and lotus root—any way of cooking it is fine, as long as it’s not too spicy. You can decide on the rest.”

Chen Feng didn’t know how good her cooking skills were, but judging from the quality of the fried eggs, they should be decent.

“Okay, I’ve got it. I’ll go buy them in a bit.”

    Sun Xiaorui agreed naturally.

The two of them were just like a married couple living their daily life.

They quickly finished their simple breakfast, and of course, Sun Xiaorui cleared the dishes.

Then, she even made a special cup of tea for Chen Feng and told him to watch TV in the living room first.

Chen Feng didn’t stand on ceremony. He took the tea, sat down on the sofa, crossed his legs, and turned on the TV.

After tidying up, Sun Xiaorui went out.

She had a small pink electric scooter, which she had brought over during the move. The market was less than a kilometer away, so riding the scooter was more convenient than driving.

Chen Feng watched TV for a while, took a few sips of tea, and leaned back on the sofa. Looking around the villa’s living room, a sense of contentment and reluctance suddenly arose in him.

Such a comfortable and leisurely life was something he could only have dreamed of before, and now it seemed to have been realized so easily.

It was just that he now had a terminal illness and could die at any moment.

    Happy and depressed!

This was Chen Feng’s mood at this moment.

Picking up his phone, he opened WeChat, found Sun Xiaorui, and first transferred 50,000 yuan to her, followed by a 10,000 yuan red envelope.

The former was her salary, the latter for household expenses.

Chen Feng sent a voice message to explain. Not long after, he received a smiley face and a kissing emoji from Sun Xiaorui.

It felt good to spend the money, but his original thirteen million plus was now close to dropping below ten million.

It seemed he still needed to make more money!

Taking advantage of his current streak of good luck, Chen Feng didn’t plan on any high-intellect schemes, and he certainly wouldn’t risk committing a crime. He didn’t have the time or energy, nor was it necessary. Simply and directly buying lottery tickets would do.

He planned to go buy one in the afternoon. Today was Saturday, and the Super Lotto drawing was tonight. It had one of the highest single-ticket prizes in the country.

He would see then if his good luck could still guarantee him a win.

The last lottery ticket that won him a car had flown directly into his hand. This time, he would go buy it himself. He should be able to win, right?

Chen Feng couldn’t help but look forward to his recent good fortune.

    Don’t let me down!
