Chapter 2 Encountering a Beauty on the Road
by SunflowerChen Feng ignored the envious and jealous lottery players, cashed in his prize at the counter, and left directly.
As for the lottery ticket that won the car, Chen Feng planned to wait one more day. He would look around the area again tomorrow, and if there was still no news, he would of course go to redeem the prize himself.
That night, Chen Feng packed his luggage, planning to find a place and move out the next day.
Shen Lin did not come home that night.
The next morning, Chen Feng first went to the lottery shop. There was no one in the shop at this time, only the owner.
Chen Feng went up and asked casually, “Have you heard of anyone winning a big prize on the scratch-off tickets around here recently?”
Chen Feng had won over three thousand yuan in the shop yesterday, and he had been a frequent customer for the past two years, so the shop owner still had an impression of him. He smiled and said, “The biggest prize won on a scratch-off ticket here should be you. You won over three thousand from two tickets yesterday.”
Chen Feng nodded and didn’t say much more. He took out 20 yuan and bought two more tickets. He didn’t scratch them on the spot, just took them and left.
He planned to find a house nearby. After all, he had lived here for almost two years and was quite familiar with the area.
His luck was pretty good. Passing by a bun shop, he bought a few meat buns and a carton of milk. He casually asked if there were any single rooms for rent nearby, and the lady boss happened to know of one and enthusiastically gave him the landlord’s phone number.
He called the landlord while eating his meat buns. The landlord was having breakfast nearby.
It was only a few minutes’ walk away. The two met at the breakfast shop. The landlord was very straightforward and had a good impression of him, so he took him directly to see the apartment.
It was only two streets away from the house he was currently living in. It was an old residential complex, over twenty years old, but not too dilapidated.
It was on the first floor, over fifty square meters, and simply decorated. It had one living room, one bathroom, one bedroom, and a small open-air courtyard of seven or eight square meters. The kitchen was on the steps connected to the small courtyard. The space was small, but barely usable.
The monthly rent was 800, with one month’s rent as a deposit and three months’ rent paid in advance. Chen Feng said he would rent it for a year and paid ten thousand directly. For renewal, he would notify the landlord two months in advance.
The landlord agreed without a second thought.
The two quickly signed a preliminary contract, and he even saved on the agent’s fee.
Chen Feng had a relatively good impression of this chubby, middle-aged landlord. Although he had paid a little more rent, he felt a bit bad about it.
He thought that he would most likely die suddenly in this room in the future. He could only leave some money for the landlord as compensation when he was about to die.
Chen Feng had always been such a considerate person, which was why his soon-to-be-over life had been so unsatisfactory before, full of too many worries.
Having found a house, and not far from his former “home,” Chen Feng took a taxi directly to move his luggage over.
Then he tidied up a bit, and it was all settled.
He went out and walked to the street where he had originally found the grand prize lottery ticket. He still didn’t see anyone looking for a lottery ticket.
He went to the lottery shop again, but there was no news of anyone losing a ticket.
It wasn’t until noon, after lunch, that Chen Feng wandered around the area again, and there were still no rumors of a lost winning lottery ticket.
It seemed that this lottery ticket that won a car was a gift from heaven.
To not take what heaven gives is to invite misfortune.
Chen Feng no longer tried to find the owner and took a taxi directly to the lottery prize redemption center.
He smoothly claimed a Buick Envision worth over two hundred thousand yuan, the exact model he had wanted to buy for the past few years but couldn’t afford.
Now, a single lottery ticket had made it a reality.
Driving this Buick, Chen Feng felt little joy in his heart. Because he was about to die.
He drove aimlessly, wandering around this city of over ten million people. Before he knew it, he had already driven out of the city, continuing down the straight highway.
He didn’t know how long he had been driving when he turned a corner, entered a side road, and the view suddenly opened up. It was a lush green field, with forests, golden rice paddies, and herds of cattle and sheep dotted in between, a thriving pastoral scene.
Looking at the beautiful scenery before him, Chen Feng’s mood improved a lot.
After driving for some distance, the cars on the road gradually became fewer. Chen Feng planned to find a place to get out, get some fresh air, and stretch his limbs.
He looked at the time and realized that more than two hours had passed without him noticing.
Just then, he saw a Mini parked on the side of the road in the distance. A beautiful woman with long, flowing hair stood by the car, waving at him.
He soon reached the Mini. Chen Feng stopped the car, rolled down the window, and asked, “Is there anything I can help you with?”
“Can I borrow your phone? My car broke down, and my phone is dead.” The woman bent down and met Chen Feng’s eyes in the car. She was indeed very beautiful, about twenty-three or twenty-four years old, with a pure look and a very pleasant voice.
“Sure! I’ll pull over.”
Chen Feng drove the car forward a bit and parked it on the side of the road. Then he got out of the car and readily handed his phone to the woman.
It wasn’t that he wasn’t cautious, but the area was surrounded by fields, with no villages or shops in sight, and hardly any cars on the road. With just this young, beautiful woman here, could it be a honey trap?
More importantly, Chen Feng was about to die, so he was much bolder than usual and wasn’t afraid of being scammed for doing a good deed.
“Thank you, thank you.”
The girl took the phone, thanking him profusely. Then she hurriedly called a friend. After a long conversation, she ended the call and returned the phone to Chen Feng.
“Big brother, thank you so much. I’ll treat you to a meal some other day.”
“No need.”
Chen Feng took his phone, waved his hand, and was about to leave, but the girl called out to him, “Big brother, can you… can you wait with me for a bit? My friend is coming over soon. I’ll treat you to a meal some other day. I’m really troubling you.”
At the end, the girl put her hands together in a pleading gesture.
Chen Feng had wanted to get out of the car to see the scenery and stretch his limbs anyway, so he readily agreed, “Alright. I’ll just look at the scenery here and rest for a bit.”
“Thank you, you’re so nice, big brother.” The girl looked grateful. There were no villages or shops nearby, her car had broken down, her phone was dead, and hardly anyone passed by. As a girl alone, she was naturally a little scared.
Chen Feng walked over to his car, took a bottle of purified water given by the car dealership, and started drinking, then looked around at the pastoral scenery.
It was October, and the golden rice paddies were almost ready for harvest. In the distance, a few water buffalo were leisurely grazing, and a flock of white goats was not far away, bleating while eating grass, looking very delicious.
Chen Feng stared at the flock of white goats, his mouth watering a little.
“Big brother, are you a local?” The girl had walked up to him at some point and suddenly asked.
Chen Feng came back to his senses and subconsciously shook his head, “No.”
“Oh, my name is Wu Mengting. What’s your surname?” The girl was trying to get closer to Chen Feng.
“My surname is Chen.” Chen Feng had no intention of giving his full name and instead asked, “What’s a girl like you doing out here?”
Wu Mengting smiled a little embarrassedly, “I came here for inspiration, to take some pictures of the countryside scenery. Who knew the car wouldn’t start after I parked it here. And my phone died.”
Speaking of which, she turned to Chen Feng and thanked him again, “It’s all thanks to you, Brother Chen, otherwise I would have been in trouble. It’s several kilometers from the main road. I waited for more than half an hour and didn’t see anyone, and I was even more afraid of running into bad people.”
“Aren’t you afraid that I’m a bad person?” Chen Feng asked with some curiosity.
Wu Mengting burst out laughing, “Big brother, you don’t look like a bad person at all. You look very kind. Besides, this car of yours should be newly bought, right? It’s worth over two hundred thousand. People who can afford such a car, and a new one at that, are generally not bad people.”
Chen Feng didn’t quite understand this logic.
However, he had to admit that her judgment was quite accurate. His face was handsome and kind-looking, completely unrelated to a bad person.
