The Cornflower Witch Chapter 183
byIt took Hylial and Sophiedina about a day and a half to choose their residence. It was a two-story house on the south side of Whitecliff City.
The house had a rough rectangular shape, but its four corners featured semicircular glass and pillar structures. The eaves at the top had a slight angle, giving the overall design a rather soft outline. When lit at night, it felt quite warm and inviting.
The first floor of the house contained the living room, dining room, kitchen, bath, and toilet. The bedrooms were on the east and west sides of the second floor, with the beds positioned in the middle of the corner columns, providing excellent lighting and views through the glass. At night, the curtains could be drawn for complete privacy and quiet.
Additionally, the second floor also housed a study and a laboratory, suitable for reading, making simple concoctions, and crafting various items.
After settling on this house, the two moved their belongings in, which wasn’t much. For Hylial, it was just a few sets of clothes and some unfinished books.
That evening, Hylial cooked dinner for the first time in the house. It was also her first time steaming rice in this world, which she served with baked fish fillets and roasted parsley and potatoes.
“Lia, dinner’s ready,” Hylial called softly to the other girl reading upstairs.
“Okay, I’ll be right down.”
Soon, Sophiedina quickly descended the stairs, holding up her skirt, and saw the girl waiting at the dining table.
“It smells wonderful! Hylial, you’re amazing~” She sat down across from Hylial, excitedly surveying the prepared meal.
[Parsley Cod Rice] (ExcellentQuality), Hylial had made for the first time that day, following Bona’s recipe.
The two sat at the candlelit dining table, eating dinner. Outside, the streets were still bustling with pedestrians, whom they could see through the nearby window.
During their meal, they occasionally talked about the knowledge they had acquired. Sophiedina brought Hylial a lot of new and unknown information.
“Lia, do you know why we usually don’t see creatures or Transcendents with the ‘Dragon Eye’ aspect?”
“Well, I haven’t seen any.”
“Because in the Sixth Epoch, the Seven Dragon of Law who held the Star-Lord position established a rule: one must reach the ‘Sixth-Tier’ to condense the ‘Dragon Eye’ aspect.”
“That means the weakest ‘Dragon Eye’ creature would still be a Sixth-Tier existence.”
“The advantage of this was to prevent the degradation of dragon blood and maintain the dragons’ nobility, but the disadvantage was the difficulty in dragon reproduction.”
“Later, for the convenience of the giant dragons ruling the world, the Dragon of Law created lizardmen. Lizardmen have many similarities to dragons and also have many different bloodlines. When they reach the Sixth-Tier, they can activate the hidden dragon bloodline within them and ascend to become giant dragons.”
“So, you’ll find that many historical lizardmen nations were ruled by giant dragons.”
Ascension, Hylial quickly recalled the similar fairies and elves.
“What about the elves? I remember each generation had a different elven queen, and they didn’t ascend to become fairies.”
“Elves are already perfect. After reaching the high tiers, they don’t need to change their form to possess abilities similar to lesser fairies.”
“As for greater fairies, those beings are similar to mythical creatures and cannot be achieved through ascension,” Sophiedina shook her head.
At night, after dinner, the two sat on the sofa reading. Both were fond of reading and learning, and were comfortable with solitude. Over the next few days, Hylial spent her time studying advanced secret history with Scholar Seraph.
During this period, she gradually learned things that Scholar Hyde had not taught her, such as the special nature of the ‘Dragon Eye’ aspect, the origins of various races, the names and characteristics of the Heavenly Courtyard, and the truth behind legendary histories.
“The ‘Corona Dragon’s’ journey back to the Star-Lord position was intricate.”
“Before the former ‘Blazing Sun Dragon’ fell, it had already foreseen its demise and entrusted its Star-Lord position and primary power to the ‘Sunhawk’.”
“In the late Seventh Epoch and early Eighth Epoch, it was the ‘Sunhawk’ who wielded the ‘Blazing Sun’ Star-Lord. If you were to examine ancient murals and texts, you would always find a strong connection between the sun and feather elements, which is a product of that era.”
“As the Star-Lord, the ‘Sunhawk’ possessed the three aspects of ‘Blazing Sun’, ‘Sky’, and ‘Dragon Eye’. Due to a lack of dependents, it especially elevated humans, who had the widest adaptability.”
“It was also during that time that humans truly stepped onto the stage of contention among the hundred races, gaining the favor of the Star-Lord.”
“The most favored humans were granted flame wings woven by the Blazing Sun, conveying the will of the Heavenly Courtyard, and were later called ‘Angels’ by posterity.”
“‘Swan King’ Morance called himself the ‘Swan King’ because of the swan wings bestowed upon him by the Star-Lord. His forces also included the historically renowned ‘Swan Knights’.”
“Later, although ‘Swan King’ Morance founded the ‘Castle’ aspect, he did not become the Star-Lord of that aspect. Two hundred years later, he died due to a curse, and his bloodline was cut off. Although there is no concrete evidence, many scholars, through textual research, suspect that the biggest culprit behind this was the bloodkin, another branch of humanity who had strayed onto a different path.”
“After the death of Swan King Morance, the Blood Dynasty rose rapidly in less than two hundred years. They unified the Third Continent, becoming the dominant power of the time, and also the first dominant dynasty among humans.”
“In the late Eighth Epoch, after 700 years of rule, the Blood Dynasty fell due to internal strife. The last princess of the dynasty escaped, came to the Fourth Continent, and married a local noble, settling down afterwards. Their descendants still form a power in the northern part of the continent, occupying the shattered islands of the northern continent, known as the ‘Sea Cliff Bloodkind’.”
“And the remaining descendants of the Blood Dynasty who stayed on the Third Continent were called the ‘Dark Night Bloodline’.”
…
The complex ancient secret history was recounted in detail and with humor by Seraph, who occasionally used the ‘Printing Method’ to illustrate characters, monsters, patterns, and other things on white paper, helping Hylial understand.
It must be said that he was indeed worthy of being a Fifth-Tier scholar, a Transcendent in the field of education. Under his guidance, Hylial’s understanding of this world was progressing rapidly.
Over the course of two months, Hylial spent her time studying various courses with Seraph and returning to the valley to tend to her thriving wheat crops.
Now, cultivating wheat was familiar to her; she no longer needed to spend time and energy every day getting acquainted with it, as she did in the first half of the year. A periodic visit was all that was required.
Time passed leisurely, and as the end of the year approached, Hylial finally completed her transaction with the ‘Hearth Bakery’. She sold them all 15,000 Jin (approx. 7,500 kg) of rare-grade wheat that she had cultivated, and also sold 1,000 Jin (approx. 500 kg) of perfect-grade wheat. The total income from this transaction was 3,800 gold coins. After deducting the 960 gold coins spent on courses, she had 2,840 gold coins left.
Considering that such a large sum of money would not be safe in the valley, Hylial deposited it with the association in Whitecliff City.
Suddenly having a large sum of money, Hylial was happy but unsure of how best to spend it. If following economic theory, reinvesting the money would be a better choice.
For herself, this would mean taking more courses she enjoyed, but she had only completed half of the four courses she was currently enrolled in and lacked the energy for more.
Unable to think of a good investment for the time being, Hylial decided to save the money first.
