Chapter Index

    “Little Leaf”.

Zhou Zhengde read the name aloud, fiddling with a photograph in his hand.

It’s afternoon at the fortress now, and Zhou Zhengde has just finished his regular work and the extra overtime he’s been doing.

Wei Na arrived at the police station office on time, knocked on the door, and pushed it open with a stack of paper files in her hand.

“How’s it going? Have the sample analyses come out yet?”

“A very complex and difficult-to-define energy appeared in his blood. His genes did not mutate, but his entire muscle tissue, including his internal organs, underwent changes that medicine could not explain!”

Wei Na said in a low voice, somewhat excitedly:

“Finally, we humans have begun to mutate and evolve in order to fight against the Blade Beasts!”

Zhou Zhengde carefully examined these files.

He whispered, “This matter can only be known by the two of us. Has the instrument data been deleted? I will introduce him directly to my grandfather later. I don’t trust anyone else, including the governor and my mother. I will risk everything to protect him under the threat of the Thirteenth Institute.”

“It’s been deleted, in a physical sense. Please approve a few new instruments for me later.”

    Wei Na changed the subject:

“Is everything really alright in the lower city? Shouldn’t we tell him what happened next?”

“Do you want him to impulsively take another risk and kill those psionicists?”

    Zhou Zhengde smiled wryly:

“Things have gotten out of hand already, and I can’t keep up the pace.”

“My mother’s side is in a very passive position because of Ban Wenying’s matter.”

“The Thirteenth Institute forcibly occupied those facilities. They are protecting their secrets. If I’m not mistaken, the Blackfire Gang is an important source of human experimental materials for the Thirteenth Institute of Biology.”

“Now we need to find that list, or rather, the bill.”

“This list has two parts. One part is what those high-ranking officials are looking for, because they are afraid of ruining their reputations. The other part is what I want to find: the data from the thirteen human experiments.”

“Also, come and see, my men have found this, the little leaf that Mu Liang is looking for.”

He placed the photo on the table and pushed it over.

Wei Na picked up the photo and frowned deeply.

In the photo, a girl in a white dress carrying a suitcase is being led away by two psionicists in combat uniforms, one of whom is a female psionicist holding her hand.

“She is Ye Zi. They inquired with Wan Lijin’s team, and Ye Zi is quite famous in the greenhouse area because she is well-behaved and pretty.”

Zhou Zhengde muttered under his breath:

“She has been taken to the psionic camp in the upper city.”

Wei Na asked, “What does Mu Liang want with Ye Zi?”

“I don’t know,” Zhou Zhengde shook his head. “She might be shot dead. Mu Liang said that she killed those dozen or so orphans.”

    “Wait! My brain isn’t working!”

Wei Na recalled carefully and said slowly:

“Mu Liang lived in that wooden house for a while. He told me personally that he quite liked these orphans, and Ye Zi was probably the oldest among them.”

“He even offered to owe you a favor, asking you to ask the Wanlijin Gang for help in pulling these orphans out of this mess.”

“But Ye Zi used more than a dozen kitchen knives to kill them with her own hands.”

“This, my God, this leaf can’t be just a simple case of psychological distortion… No wonder Mu Liang had an emotional breakdown.”

Zhou Zhengde said in a low voice, “Mu Liang also talked to me in writing. He said that although those children are noisy, they have not been instilled with criminal ideas; they are pure. So how can we help him now? This could very well affect his mental health.”

Wei Na said, “When I came over, he seemed to be fine. He asked me where the library in Midtown was, and he had already gone there to borrow books.”

    “All right.”

Zhou Zhengde thought for a moment:

“How about we make tonight’s party as lively as possible? Let’s invite more friends?”

“The ecological problems in the lower city are the direction of my next efforts. To solve the ecology of the lower city, we must first reform the rules set by the upper city.”

“The exploitation and oppression of the lower town by the upper town largely stemmed from the selfishness of those old people.”

“Although I say this is somewhat politically incorrect, people are born into different positions with no path to advancement. This is a suppression of humanity.”

Wei Na smiled and said, “Okay, innocent Zhou, you can strive for your ideals, but don’t forget one thing?”

    “What?”

“The root cause lies with the Blade Beasts. In the past hundred years or so that human civilization has been fighting against the Blade Beasts, it has come very close to failure.”

    Wei Na muttered to herself:

“They’re right, you were born in the wrong era. If you had lived in an era when humans dominated the planet, your background and character would have made you an outstanding party leader.”

    “But not now.”

“Don’t discuss politics with a doctor, especially a female doctor.”

She spun around, her sexy figure swaying gently:

“I’ve given up on pursuing Mu Liang. He’s really a conservative, even more conservative than you. But I have a few sisters who are also extremely conservative, and I’ll invite them to our party tonight.”

“Could you use your connections to get a little bit of alcoholic beverages, Mr. Zhou?”

“No,” Zhou Zhengde shook his head decisively, “that’s an inefficient use of grain.”

    “Tch, I’ll do it myself.”

Wei Na rolled her eyes, turned away with a dark expression.

She saw that familiar figure just as she left the police station.

Wang Jixuan walked with his hands in his pockets and two books tucked under his arms, head down, around the corner in the distance.

Wei Na was about to call out, but then she held back.

She watched Wang Jixuan’s retreating figure, sighed softly, and then a confident smile appeared on her lips.

Lose your belly fat and find a new handsome guy!

I’ll also introduce Mu Liang to a beautiful woman, so he won’t actually have to wait for a genetic match at age 25, which would be just for the sake of producing high-quality offspring.

    Wei Na thought to herself.

‘Their analysis report shouldn’t reveal anything; the human civilization here doesn’t utilize Qi.’

Wang Jixuan sensed the energy flowing through his body, glanced at the card in his hand, and searched for his new dormitory.

He accepted Zhou Zhengde’s protection and decided that in addition to getting Zhou Zhengde some longevity pills, he would also get him some of the things that ordinary men need most…

    Nourishing and Strengthening Bone Pill.

That was a wonderful elixir that could give Zhou Zhengde abundant confidence.

The new dormitory wasn’t far from the central circular park; it was on a street with comprehensive surveillance cameras, and Wang Jixuan could find it after just two turns.

He couldn’t help but frown as soon as he stepped into the capillary passage.

Several thugs were surrounding a young man, who was holding a bag of emergency rations, which they rudely snatched away.

    Squeeze the blood bags.

Wang Jixuan slowly moved forward, stood inside a doorway, and took out a few nuts from his pocket.

A loud voice suddenly rang out at the end of the corridor:

“Damn it! What are you doing?! Are you looking to get yourself killed?!”

Several thugs wearing blue sweatshirts rushed over.

The thugs who were squeezing blood bags were pinned against the wall, and a round of mutual accusations against each other’s immediate family members immediately ensued.

    thugs fighting over territory?

Wang Jixuan silently took out a few more nuts.

These nuts had followed him to the lower city before and had seen a lot of things, so this little scene was really nothing to mention.

Just as he was about to make a move, he suddenly heard a familiar male voice beside him.

    Lazy and a bit arrogant.

“Here we go again to squeeze blood bags. Didn’t I say that this area is now under my control? There can be no more blood bag squeezing from now on?”

“Didn’t I beat your boss enough last time?”

The group of thugs fell silent instantly.

Wang Jixuan had several question marks on his forehead and peeked out slightly.

At the end of the corridor, four young men and women in blue sweatshirts marched forward, approached the scene of the incident, turned to each other, put their hands behind their backs against the wall, and shouted together:

    “Fish, brother, hello!”

The thugs who were squeezing blood bags trembled a few times and stood obediently by the wall, as well-behaved as kindergarten children.

At the end of the corridor, a gang leader wearing a black vest, capri pants, and sporting an afro strolled over.

After a period of training, the already strong gang leader developed obvious muscle mass, and his two silver-gray mechanical prosthetics flexibly clenched and opened.

That face still looks so punchable.

    He said lazily:

“What, you won’t listen to me? Do you want me to cripple you all?”

    Buzz, buzz!

The two prosthetic limbs were clenching their fists and raising their palms, constantly colliding with each other.

“Your boss didn’t participate in yesterday’s volunteer activity at the sanatorium, did he?”

“I told him to give a third of his food share to those old guys, but he didn’t do it, did he?”

    “Very good, very good.”

He chuckled and walked up to the group of thugs. Suddenly, he stretched out his right hand and grabbed one of the thugs by the neck.

The engine of the mechanical prosthesis was spinning rapidly.

The thug slowly rose, and the others were so frightened that they immediately covered their heads and squatted down.

“Go back and tell your boss that the entire thirteenth floor is under the protection of my older brother, Zhou Zhengde, who is Lan Yuzai.”

“My older brother said that blood bags are prohibited, bullying is prohibited, and human trafficking is prohibited. If your boss is not satisfied, let him fight me. I will give him one last chance. Get out of here and do volunteer work at the sanatorium right now!”

Lan Yuzai suddenly flung the thug several meters away, while the other thugs scrambled away.

Lan Yuzai slightly pursed his lips, and the thugs in blue sweatshirts clapped at the same time.

    “Thank you, Brother Yu!”

The rescued young man shouted excitedly:

“Brother Yu! Can I follow you from now on?!”

“Live a miserable life? What are you talking about? Live a good life, you idiot! In this day and age, being able to live with dignity is already pretty good!”

Lan Yuzai cursed in an annoyed tone:

“I’m protecting you to atone for my sins. Otherwise, I’ll be too embarrassed to even greet my older brother when I see him in the future. You’d better get out of here!”

    “Continue patrolling!”

    Listen up, all of you!

“We’ll help with the things the security team handles!”

“We’ll take care of things that the security team doesn’t!”

“Special permission from Captain Zhou! Guidance from a top expert! This is… the Liangren Gang!”

    “Brother Yu, that’s really powerful!”

“That was written by Dr. Wei Na, and there’s an even more powerful passage. Let me get you into character, cough cough…”

Lan Yuzai led his underlings toward the edge of the thirteenth floor.

Wang Jixuan couldn’t help but raise his hand to his forehead, a million complaints swirling in his mind, but he didn’t know where to begin.

He laughed heartily, a glimmer of light appearing in his calm eyes.

Just as Master Wang was about to go to his room, his spiritual senses suddenly jolted.

    Qi.

    So much gas, mottled gas!

He tensed up, pressed against the door frame, then immediately relaxed, facing the door, his aura settling into his limbs and bones, and held the room card to compare.

I heard a flurry of footsteps beside me.

A group of psionicists passed through the circular area at the end of the capillary tunnel, approaching the thirteenth-floor police station.
