Chapter Index

“Senior brother, just watch. Let the two of us take care of him.” Mi Suhui and Kong Haoran’s eyes flashed. Gripping the mourning clubs, they charged forward.

    “Ants, seeking death!”

The flood dragon was already burning with fury. Seeing that Mi Suhui and Kong Haoran not only did not run, but even dared to counterattack, he was enraged even further. Dark flames surged from his back, as though they would ignite the very air around him.

Since when did mere Qi Refining ants dare provoke him!

    “Roar!”

A dragon’s roar shook out. Countless streaks of light, like flying swords, shot from his mouth toward the two of them. Wherever they passed, the ground exploded, rocks turning to dust, sparks flashing everywhere.

But Mi Suhui and Kong Haoran’s expressions did not change. They suddenly flung out the net woven from Sky Demon Spider silk. Spiritual light spread, as if it contained a special Dao resonance.

Falling downward, it melted and extinguished the flood dragon’s breath entirely.

Then, without losing any force, it dropped toward the flood dragon itself.

    “This… is a trap!”

The flood dragon’s pupils shrank, his expression filled with panic, and he let out a roar.

    These two were clearly prepared!

Otherwise, what respectable person would carry these two types of treasures with them? One was a mourning club crafted from Antarctic silverwood where the sacred bird Garuda once perched, and the other was a net woven from the silk of a Sky Demon Spider, a creature that fed on flood dragons. Both were fully targeted against him!

    This was obviously a trap!

    “…”

Kong Haoran and Mi Suhui’s lips twitched, black lines crawling across their foreheads.

Bringing up exactly the things they didn’t want mentioned, wasn’t he?
They had prepared these two treasures specifically to capture Fallen Spirits, both highly effective against water-attribute creatures, especially dragon-type!

Who knew the Fallen Spirit wasn’t afraid of either one!

Not only did they gain nothing, they also embarrassed themselves repeatedly.

Now being reminded of it by the flood dragon, of course they couldn’t maintain their composure.

“If we couldn’t deal with a Fallen Spirit, do you think we can’t deal with you, a mere flood dragon?” Kong Haoran and Mi Suhui tightened their grip on the mourning clubs and suppressed him with overwhelming force.

“You go too far! Even with two treasures that restrain me, with your mere ninth-layer Qi Refining cultivation, you dream of taking down this king? Delusional!”

Seeing that the world was sealed off, and although many cultivators were around, most were cannon fodder, the flood dragon’s confidence surged. Cold light flashed in his eyes as killing intent surged.

As he spoke, the flood dragon’s entire body rose from the Dragon Pool and descended completely.

His whole form was like cast iron, radiating a dark metallic luster. Ferocious and sleek, filled with a wicked beauty, and the pressure he emitted was overwhelming to the extreme.

The small world surrounding the Fallen Spirit Pool erupted with violent winds and rolling crimson lightning.

    “Flood Dragon Leap Divine Destruction!”

The flood dragon unleashed a peerless spell. Thousands of bolts of lightning flickered as they charged toward Mi Suhui and Kong Haoran. He intended to endure the restraint effects, shatter the Sky Demon Spider net and the Antarctic silverwood mourning clubs, and swallow the two whole.

So what if their weapons restrained him? Their own strength was so weak that before him they were still ants.

    However…
When Kong Haoran and Mi Suhui saw this scene, they actually laughed. Not only did they laugh, they even pointed at the incoming flood dragon before turning to each other, their faces filled with mockery and disdain.

    “Seeking death!”

Seeing this, the flood dragon was even more enraged, nearly losing all rationality. He gathered all his power, determined to crush these two brats.

    But—
Just as he reached them, strange metallic clangs rang out.

Then, Mi Suhui burst forth with overwhelming Buddhist light. His body shone like gold, rising to the height of a giant, resembling a Buddha. Most terrifying of all, demonic energy swirled around him.

Beside Kong Haoran, countless phantom Confucian classics appeared, flipping rapidly without wind. Multicolored characters filled the sky as righteous qi swept across the world, making him look like a young Confucian sage—yet ghostly qi curled around his body.

Their auras surged, like a peerless demon-Buddha and ghostly Confucian saint!

In an instant, the situation reversed.

In everyone’s eyes, the flood dragon who moments earlier still looked like an immortal fiend god now appeared like a little mud eel before Mi Suhui and Kong Haoran.

They held the mourning clubs, their expressions calm, but terrifying to all who watched.

Kong Haoran: “You? Dare roar at us?”

Mi Suhui: “Did you eat leopard guts?”

As the words fell, the mourning clubs descended like mountains, the pressure unimaginable.

    Boom!

The flood dragon was smashed into the ground, dizzy and confused. Not because his head suffered heavy injury, but because he simply could not understand how two brats in the Qi Refining stage suddenly became so terrifying.

He could not understand. Absolutely could not understand!

    “Ah!”

In the distance, shocked cries rose continuously. Every cultivator was dumbfounded, their hearts pounding violently.

Weren’t they Qi Refining? How could they be this fierce!

“…” Xu Gu’s lips twitched as well, feeling numb inside.

    Truly two cheats!

Having good luck and just happening to pick items that countered the flood dragon was already ridiculous enough. But they were also this strong! Fighting across realms as if it were daily routine—absolute monsters.

However, remembering that this righteous path group of five all possessed the strongest talents and backgrounds, like protagonists blessed by heaven in storybooks, Xu Gu accepted it.

    This was normal, actually.

Xu Gu quietly put away the more than a dozen Thunder-Summoning Talismans he had taken out, along with the talisman papers used to summon Elder Redfire and Elder Blueflame.

He had borrowed the thunder talismans from Xiaobitian, capable of drawing down Nine Heavens Yin Lightning, extremely powerful.

As for the summoning talisman papers, they weren’t true summoning talismans—they were too precious and the Demon Den didn’t have any. They were simply a backdoor method left by the two elders; crushing them would alert the elders outside, who would then descend immediately.

His original plan was simply to use thunder talismans to blast fish and shock fish—plain and simple.

If he stirred up trouble, he would call people—summon Elder Redfire and Elder Blueflame.

But after obtaining the Dragon Pool Tiger Cave talent, he abandoned such a mundane idea.

Obviously, pumping the water was more satisfying.

Thus these methods were reserved only for the possibility that a terrifying flood dragon might counterattack through the connected Dragon Pool.

Now, seeing Mi Suhui and Kong Haoran suppress the flood dragon with ease, he naturally put everything away.

    Ahead, miserable cries rang out.

Mi Suhui and Kong Haoran were fiercely beating the flood dragon.

Against the two wielding the Sky Demon Spider net and the Antarctic silverwood mourning clubs, the flood dragon had no power to resist and was simply hung up and beaten.

    Moments later—
The flood dragon’s scales split and flesh tore. Trembling violently, he lay on the ground, all his former pride gone. Bowing low, he looked as pitiful as a beaten stray.

If not for dragon-kind’s naturally tough skin and flesh, he might have already been beaten to death.

He now very much wanted to ask: Who exactly is the Golden Core here? Who is Qi Refining??

Mi Suhui and Kong Haoran descended slowly, robes fluttering, hands behind their backs, their aura vast, like divine beings descending. Waves of awe and shock surged among the surrounding cultivators.

Yet the two showed no arrogance. Instead, their faces were filled with resentment and disappointment.

“A four-legged mud eel really is a four-legged mud eel. Can’t even take a beating.”

“This damned Demon Den suppresses us too much!”

“If it weren’t for the invisible suppression of the Demon Den, I’d already be mid Foundation Establishment!”

“With that level of strength, beating this mud eel wouldn’t require any of those items.”

The two muttered with dissatisfaction, displeased with their performance, even feeling they had failed somewhat. They might be the worst-performing heavenly-spirit-root pair of their generation.

    “…” Xu Gu.

Watching the thick clouds of resentment overflowing from their heads, all surging toward him, Xu Gu—bearing the Mediocrity trait—was already used to it. His smile remained as though he heard nothing, and instead he encouraged them:

“Heaven’s destiny rises with the demons. Being suppressed is normal.

“But remember this: The one who cannot defeat me will ultimately make me stronger!

“With such heaven-blessed talent as you two, after this tempering, you will certainly become the strongest Confucian and Buddhist cultivators in history!”

“Hiss… The one who cannot defeat me will ultimately make me stronger?” Mi Suhui and Kong Haoran’s eyes lit up, battle intent surging. The more they tasted the words, the more truth they felt in them, as though they contained boundless profundity.

They exclaimed, “No wonder senior brother is so strong! You already comprehended the true meaning of cultivation long ago. We simply haven’t worked hard enough!”

“Good. With such awareness, the future is bright.” Xu Gu nodded in satisfaction. Then he looked at the flood dragon on the ground and frowned. “What is your origin?”

After activating the Dragon Pool Tiger Cave trait, the cave connected to the nearest Dragon Pool. But the Dashang Dynasty’s surveillance was strict. If this were a flood dragon from the Central Continent, it shouldn’t have such intense murderous aura.

But if it wasn’t a Central Continent flood dragon, how did its Dragon Pool get connected?

Mi Suhui and Kong Haoran finally remembered as well. Their expressions turned serious, their gazes sharp as swords as they stared at the flood dragon:

“There’s been a major crackdown recently. Where did you come from? How did you slip through?”

Clearly, they had already noticed this point.
