Chapter 14 Showing Off
by Sunflowerbite–
The sound of a coin scraping against an aluminum alloy bowl echoed in Zhou Zhengde’s ears.
He could hear his own rapid heartbeat.
With his vision blurred and a sharp pain and tearing sensation coming from his abdomen, Zhou Zhengde knew he had been injured by shrapnel. Although the anti-tank rocket had hit the vehicle in front of him, he was still injured.
Am I going to die?
Zhou Zhengde tried to make a sound, but he had no strength at all, and his mouth was full of the taste of rust, which was the blood that was gushing up.
“Captain! Captain!”
Along with the stinging sensation of the needle piercing his skin, a cool liquid was injected into his vein.
Gunshots rang out all around.
In Zhou Zhengde’s blurred vision, several figures nearby fell one after another.
‘The Blackfire Gang wants to kill me outright?’
The scene from just now flashed before Zhou Zhengde’s eyes.
Suddenly, a truck emerged from the dark intersection and blocked the path of his convoy. A rocket-propelled grenade exploded directly in front of them, and bursts of gunfire erupted from the three-story building next to them.
He hired elite thugs from the Silver Party and the City of Joy to negotiate with the leader of the Blackfire Gang in their territory, but they were ambushed by the Blackfire Gang.
why is that?
Doesn’t the Blackfire Gang know who’s backing him?
Zhou Zhengde suddenly paused.
Perhaps the Blackfire Gang knew all this, which is why they took this opportunity to kill him…
‘Ah, the Thirteenth Institute.’
The Blackfire Gang was originally a subordinate of the Thirteenth Institute at Fortress 76, providing experimental materials to the Thirteenth Institute… He actually overlooked this fact…
The injection worked quickly.
Zhou Zhengde shook his head violently, his spirits began to soar, the tinnitus in his ears disappeared, his blurred vision cleared again, and even the pain in his abdomen lessened considerably.
The young man in the light blue security team uniform standing nearby, his assistant Lin Tao, was quickly treating Zhou Zhengde’s wounds.
Several vehicles, encased in thick steel plates, formed a triangle to temporarily protect them.
There were a dozen or so Silver Party gang thugs who survived the initial rocket attack, but now only six remain.
They were completely overwhelmed by the dozen or so Black Fire Gang thugs firing their weapons from the building by the roadside, and could only hide behind the car, unable to raise their heads.
Assistant Lin Tao pursed his lips tightly, his young face meticulous. He used disposable pliers to pinch the shrapnel from Zhou Zhengde’s abdominal wound and pulled it out forcefully.
Zhou Zhengde groaned in pain, gritting his teeth and not letting out a sound.
Lin Tao immediately took out a thumb-sized spray from his medical kit and sprayed a thick layer of mist onto the wound to temporarily stop the bleeding.
“Lin Tao, call for backup…”
“The signal is being blocked, Captain!”
Lin Tao’s timidity was immediately apparent when he spoke.
His voice was trembling.
The sound of bullets hitting the roof of the car was heard, and the young man instinctively covered his head.
Zhou Zhengde pulled out a pistol from his waist and took a labored breath.
The burly men from the Silver Gang nearby kept calling out to people through walkie-talkies, but it was all in vain. They received no reply and could only wait for the Silver Gang members to come over on their own.
They tried to peek out and fight back, but because they had not received professional military training, they were hit by a hail of bullets almost as soon as they showed their heads.
The last six Silver Party members were quickly reduced to four.
Zhou Zhengde looked around.
This is the main road connecting the nightclub district and the gambling district. The entire area is without power because the previous explosion affected the city’s fragile and messy electrical circuits.
The three-story building to the north was without power; it looked like a hotel, and its signboard was flashing.
The three-story concrete building to the south was like a fortress, with more than a dozen people occupying seven windows on the top and bottom, shining three high-powered searchlights into the middle of the road.
To the east, in the direction that this main road extends, a truck blocked the way, and behind the truck were five or six gunmen from the Black Fire Gang.
They are now being completely suppressed by the enemy’s ‘L’-shaped firepower.
There’s absolutely no way to retaliate!
Zhou Zhengde, who had served in the military for several years and had been trained on the front lines outside the basin, quickly came to a somewhat desperate conclusion.
It seems like I’m doomed.
Zhou Zhengde, on the contrary, calmed down. Despite the hail of bullets around him, he even smiled and looked up to ask:
“Are you afraid of dying, Lin Tao?!”
“Afraid…not afraid!”
Lin Tao leaned close to the car door, trying hard to force a smile, but his smile looked worse than a grimace.
“It was worth it to follow the captain for two years.”
“What’s the point? It’s not worth it until you’re under 60.”
Zhou Zhengde smiled wryly:
“I just never expected that instead of dying on the front lines with you, I would die in the darkest corner of this fortress.”
“Hold your gun tight, don’t be afraid, the bullet is loaded.”
Lin Tao nodded vigorously, took a few deep breaths, pulled out his pistol, gripped the trigger guard, and quickly pulled it back.
Click!
“They should only have one rocket; it shouldn’t be in the lower town.”
Zhou Zhengde said in a low voice:
“I didn’t hear any sniper fire. The Blackfire Gang’s sniper probably isn’t there, or hasn’t reached his position yet… Do you see that small building to the north?”
Lin Tao turned his head and saw a small hotel building separated from the main road by a sewage ditch.
“That’s the only way to escape.”
Zhou Zhengde said in a low voice:
“I’m injured and can’t run. I’ll cover you later… Run the shortest path out of the enemy’s searchlight range, and then, don’t look back, don’t try to run in a zigzag pattern, just keep your head down and run forward, using the buildings for cover…”
“Captain!” Lin Tao cried out in a trembling voice, “I’ll carry you on my back!”
What’s the point of both of them dying here?
Zhou Zhengde said calmly:
“You must tell them how I died, especially my mother.”
“I need you to watch over my body. Don’t let the Thirteenth Institute use my body for their disgusting experiments. This might be the Thirteenth Institute’s revenge on me… Get ready, I’ll cover for you. Their target is me.”
“Captain! Captain!”
“Prepare……”
Zhou Zhengde took a deep breath and, disregarding the possibility that the frozen wound might reopen, immediately tried to turn over and get up.
The Silver Party members nearby were too busy protecting themselves to care about their employer; they merely glanced in their direction…
Whoosh!
A figure flashed by.
Suddenly, a large hand pressed down on Zhou Zhengde’s shoulder, firmly pinning him down.
The two Silver Party members who were looking in this direction were stunned. Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of them, and they were so frightened that they almost dropped their guns.
Not to mention the Silver Party’s thugs, even the dozen or so Blackfire Gang gunmen in green sweatshirts who occupied the high ground only saw a figure dart out from the edge of the sewage ditch to the north. Before they could fire, the person had already disappeared behind the car.
Zhou Zhengde stared in astonishment at the young man before him.
Familiar faces;
A mask stained with a little blood;
And those eyes that were always calm and composed.
“Mu!”
Wang Jixuan smiled and shook his head, then casually took out a hemostatic talisman and stuck it on Zhou Zhengde’s abdominal wound.
“I owe you a favor, and I’ll repay it today. Please cooperate with me later.”
Wang Jixuan spoke softly, then slowly moved his crouching figure backward, the talismans on his thighs flickering slightly, a wisp of energy flowing through his feet, and he leaped back into the darkness to the north.
Intense gunfire erupted from the direction of the truck, but the Blackfire Gang gunmen reacted a second too late. They could only see a figure jump out from the three-vehicle defensive line, disappear into the darkness, and enter the edge of the sewage ditch.
Zhou Zhengde stared blankly down at his abdomen.
What is this…?
A warm energy surrounded the wound, and the pain subsided by more than half.
“ah!”
“who!”
Da da da da!
Suddenly, several panicked shouts came from behind the truck.
Zhou Zhengde looked down and saw several corpses lying under the truck.
They killed them at the same time?
Those six! Six gunmen! Killed almost simultaneously?
No, how… how did he do that? Is Mu Liang really a psychic? Or the most terrifying type of psychic with enhanced physical abilities?
…
A few seconds ago.
Slay demons and protect the righteous path; may this heart attain enlightenment!
Wang Jixuan returned from the darkness, skimming the edge of the sewage ditch and leaping straight into the middle of the road.
He swung his hands forward alternately, and twelve sharp, cheap blades shot out, with twelve lines of blood gushing out simultaneously!
Only two of the six thugs noticed something amiss. They turned to look at the dimly lit area to the side and barely caught a glimpse of the figure in the gray jacket before letting out two screams.
That’s all they can do.
After landing, Wang Jixuan rolled forward, used his right foot to propel himself to the side of the truck, and pressed himself against the truck bed to avoid the view of the small building across the street.
Master Wang had been observing for a long time, and the entire battlefield was clearly displayed in his mind.
The Blackfire Gang launched a corner attack.
He easily took over the truck area with a surprise attack. The most troublesome thing was the small building’s firing point, and the Black Fire Gang thugs in that building had already noticed the anomaly.
Nothing else, Wang Jixuan heard the commotion coming from the corpse of one of the thugs beside him:
“Ah Gui, why did you stop?! Fight! What are you cowering for?! Kill that Zhou guy and you’ll never have to worry again!”
Wang Jixuan looked at the square box.
Mu Liang remembered this thing.
It looks like… a walkie-talkie?
This thing is much more convenient than the jade talisman for sending messages.
Wang Jixuan slowly walked to the other end of the truck, observed the enemy’s firepower for a few moments, then took a few steps back and stared at the guns being held by the six corpses.
He now has two choices.
One priority is to rescue the people and get Zhou Zhengde and the others out. Now that he has taken down the six gang thugs behind the truck, he can do this easily.
But he quickly decided to choose the second option.
The Blackfire Gang has over a thousand members. If we can kill a few more now, we can save some trouble later.
He only knew how to use handguns now, so he took two handguns and stuffed them into his pants pockets. Then he gathered the six automatic rifles and submachine guns together, and with a little force, threw them over the roof of the truck.
The Silver Party members immediately roared from Zhou Zhengde’s side:
“A grenade! Holy crap!”
Zhou Zhengde and the others immediately dropped to the ground. Two of them were hit in the back by guns that were falling in a parabolic arc and cried out.
The group breathed a sigh of relief after discovering the guns that had been thrown at them.
Wang Jixuan’s voice came:
“Captain Zhou! Big Gun!”
Zhou Zhengde immediately understood, grabbed a submachine gun, raised the muzzle above his head, and fired at the building by feel, shouting as the veins in his neck bulged:
“Suppress them! Reinforcements are on their way!”
He wasn’t sure if there would be reinforcements.
The men around him followed suit, brandishing their newly acquired weapons and firing wildly at the opposite side.
The sound of metal scraping against the asphalt road rang out.
Zhou Zhengde, with his sharp eyes, immediately noticed that several more magazines slid down from under the truck and stopped beside his legs.
It was naturally sent by Wang Jixuan.
Zhou Zhengde stared down at the bottom of the truck and saw a pair of ordinary, cheap sneakers that looked like they were just taking a stroll. Then, the sneakers just swayed for a moment and quickly disappeared.
Wow, that’s fast!
Zhou Zhengde suddenly realized something and continued shouting:
“Fire out your bullets! Suppress them! Suppress them with firepower!”
Zhou Zhengde roared and fired his gun at the building to the side, leaving several streaks of fire.
A figure, like a black feather, silently swept through the darkness, circled halfway behind the truck, and entered the back of the building.
A dozen seconds later, the gunfire suddenly subsided.
Twenty seconds later, the other side went completely silent.
The men next to Zhou Zhengde were frantically firing the last bullets in their magazines. Because they dared not look up to aim, many bullets flew in all directions.
“Cease fire! Stop!”
Zhou Zhengde shouted twice, and the men beside him stopped, still shaken. Their guns were almost empty, and they began frantically changing magazines.
Zhou Zhengde looked around and picked up a mirror from the side, carefully holding it above his head.
No bullets were fired.
Through the reflection in the mirror, Zhou Zhengde immediately noticed that there were corpses lying in two windows and shadowy figures sitting behind three windows.
Dead?
They’re all dead?
From the moment Mu Liang started his attack until he killed these dozen or so thugs, it took less than half a minute.
Zhou Zhengde’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and he began to break out in a cold sweat. Because of the violent movements he had just made, he felt a sharp pain in his abdomen. But when he looked down, the pink paper talisman was shimmering slightly.
No blood flowed out.
No, does the fortress have some new technology that he doesn’t know about?!
