    Chapter 11: Faint Light

“After ordinary people step onto the path of cultivation, their bodies will gradually transform under the nourishment of Cosmic Energy. The duration of this process depends on each student’s daily cultivation achievements, and during the body’s transformation, conditions such as hunger, auditory hallucinations, euphoria, and insomnia may occur.”

“Students don’t need to worry; this is a necessary process for everyone and you will adapt in just a few days. By the way, students who can afford it should buy nutrient solutions to ensure their daily physical nutrition, which can reduce eating time.”

“Teacher Lin, we want to know how long it takes to cultivate to reach the first realm, Spiritual Medium.” In the meditation room, a student asked a question.

Lin Yue immediately said, “Before answering this question, I want to ask all students a question: Our human body receives external information through various senses. Which sense do you think receives the most information among them? Nose, mouth, ears, eyes, or skin?”

“Eyes, it’s the eyes that receive the most external information.” A student immediately answered.

Lin Yue nodded and said, “That’s right, it’s the eyes. The eyes account for the largest proportion of external information received by the human body, approximately eighty percent of all senses. Therefore, the first place you feel something is amiss during cultivation is when your eyes start to see things you normally can’t.”

“Cultivators who have just started might think they are hallucinating, but they aren’t. Those things inherently exist in our world; it’s just that ordinary people’s eyes can only see a very limited number of things, which is why they overlook the existence of things beyond their vision.”

“For example: ghosts. Human eyes cannot see the existence of ghosts. Only when you have cultivated to a certain extent and your eyes have changed can you see so-called ghosts.”

“Also, in the sealed Danger Zones, there are also some strange and terrifying creatures. Ordinary people cannot see those things either.”

“Since the eyes are the medium that connects us to the outside world, the first realm of cultivation is called Spiritual Medium. Of course, the transformation of the eyes also has another name in ancient times: opening the Heavenly Eye.”

Upon hearing Lin Yue’s explanation, many students suddenly understood, and even Li Yi, who was secretly listening to the lecture outside the door, immediately gained much insight.

Indeed, cultivation is not simple; it involves a lot of special knowledge.

“By the way, I’ll secretly tell all students a secret that only those who have opened their Spiritual Medium know.” Lin Yue’s tone suddenly became very serious: “The world we live in is far more terrifying than you can imagine, so all students must cultivate diligently and never be slack.”

“Alright, that’s all for today’s lesson. Now you can begin meditating and cultivating. If you have any questions during this time, you can ask me. I’ll be in the office outside the meditation room.”

When Lin Yue walked out of the meditation room, she happened to meet Li Yi, who was listening to the lecture outside the door. She was stunned for a moment, then smiled and said, “Li Yi, if you want to attend the class, just go straight in. No need to stand outside the door.”

“It’s the same for me to listen outside the door, and I’ve already gotten started. Going into the meditation room wouldn’t be very useful and might even affect other students’ cultivation.” Li Yi shook his head. He felt that being able to attend for free was already very good.

If he were to get a membership, it would cost ten thousand yuan.

He couldn’t bear to spend that much now.

Lin Yue didn’t speak. Suddenly, she took a few steps forward and leaned in, her clean and beautiful face quickly drawing closer.

Li Yi was startled and instinctively retreated, but Lin Yue pressed down on his shoulder with great force, making it impossible for him to break free.

“Don’t move, let me look at your eyes.”

Lin Yue’s face showed a look of disbelief: “Didn’t you notice? There’s a faint light flickering in your eyes. Incredible, truly incredible! This is a significant sign that your body is evolving.”

“Students in the meditation room might not experience this even after a month of cultivation. How long have you been cultivating? One day, or two days? Li Yi, tell me honestly, did you suddenly hear a ‘ding’ in your head when we first met, awakening some golden finger?”

Li Yi was surprised. He hadn’t expected Lin Yue to see through his transformation at a glance.

Is the cultivation speed of having qi objects truly so terrifying?

Can one day be equivalent to someone else’s month?

“I don’t know either. After I went back yesterday, I cultivated all night, and when I woke up the next day, I was like this. I don’t feel any changes.” He could only feign ignorance, not daring to reveal his secret.

He was too weak now, and possessing a damaged qi objects would only bring trouble.

Only when he became strong enough could he justifiably expose the fact that he possessed qi objects.

Lin Yue stared at Li Yi’s eyes for a while before letting him go, then said doubtfully, “That’s impossible. Your cultivation value is only average. One or two days would absolutely not be enough to reach this level. Could it be that your home has something special about it?”

“What could be special about my home? There are plenty of houses like that in the Old City,” Li Yi said.

“You don’t understand. The world is vast, and the activity of wormholes varies from place to place. Some areas have a high frequency of wormhole openings, thus acquiring more Cosmic Energy. Other places are the opposite. I’ve even heard that some special areas have wormholes opening at fixed times and locations, releasing large amounts of Cosmic Energy. Cultivating there is comparable to possessing qi objects.”

Lin Yue explained, “You know about Golden Academy, right?”

“I’ve seen it online. It’s the most authoritative and top-tier cultivator school in the country.” Li Yi nodded.

Lin Yue said, “Golden Academy opened a wormhole a few years ago through an experiment, connecting to another world and intercepting the Cosmic Energy from that world. So, within the Golden Academy’s range, pure Cosmic Energy is highly active, and cultivation speed there is much faster than elsewhere.”

“There’s such a thing?” Li Yi was very surprised.

“Of course. Otherwise, why would every cultivator want to enter Golden Academy? No, I’ve decided. In a few days, I’m going to investigate your home to see if it’s due to its special location. If it really is your home’s issue, then I’ll be coming to your house to cultivate every day. You can’t refuse then.”

Lin Yue was very interested at the moment, wanting to find out the truth, and also wanting to find a good place to cultivate.

Seeing this, Li Yi didn’t know how to refuse and could only brace himself and agree: “Then, then alright.”

“By the way, can cultivators be identified by their eyes? What’s the difference between a cultivator’s eyes and an ordinary person’s eyes? Can you tell me?”

While changing the subject, he asked the question in his mind.

Lin Yue said, “Since you asked, I’ll answer you with the knowledge I’ve learned. Cultivators are people who have embarked on the path of evolution, so their eyes will naturally change. First and most notably, their eyes will start to glow. That’s because Cosmic Energy gathers in their eyes. So, the stronger the cultivator, the brighter their eyes, and eventually, even their pupils will change.”

“So that’s how it is.” Li Yi now understood.

No wonder when he first saw Crow, his eyes glowed faintly in the dim room, looking like a beast lurking in the darkness, making people feel a chill.

“You came so early today, there must be something else besides cultivation matters, right?” Lin Yue, being a girl, was more observant and felt that Li Yi had something on his mind.

Li Yi suddenly felt a bit embarrassed and said, “Actually, I just wanted to ask what kind of work one can generally do to earn money after becoming a cultivator. Sister Lin, you know my family’s situation, so a big reason for my cultivation is to find a better job.”

“So you want me to introduce you to a job.”

Lin Yue immediately smiled: “Cultivators indeed have many special jobs, such as joining a studio, accepting commissions from the Investigation Bureau to clear dangerous objects from certain areas, or going to the Waste District to apprehend wanted criminals and rescue people. There’s also going to Danger Zones to try and hunt down special creatures that have invaded from other worlds. But you’ve only just started cultivating two days ago, you can’t do any of these jobs. If you open your Spiritual Medium, at the very least you could go and read feng shui for people.”

Li Yi gave an awkward smile. He knew that what Lin Yue said was true.

As a newcomer, it wasn’t his turn to do cultivator-related work yet.

“However, there’s one job you can try.” Lin Yue’s smile faded, and she then said seriously.

“What job?” Li Yi immediately asked.

    Lin Yue said, “Guiding Staff.”

“Guiding Staff? I know about that. It’s guiding Cosmic Energy into other people’s bodies to help them cultivate, right?” Li Yi immediately said.

Lin Yue said, “That’s right. I’m currently studying for the Guiding Staff certification.”

“You need a certification?” Li Yi’s face immediately fell upon hearing that.

Lin Yue smiled and said, “You can do this job without a certification, but the pay will be a bit less. However, for you, the money earned from this job should be enough. But before that, you must advance your cultivation to the point where you can perceive others around you after entering meditation. Otherwise, you won’t be able to guide Cosmic Energy into other people’s bodies.”

“If you can do that, call this number. He’s a friend and acquaintance of mine at the Cultivator Association. Although I’m not close with him, I believe he’ll give me face if you go to work there.”

With that, Lin Yue gave Li Yi a phone number.

“Okay, I understand. Thank you, Sister Lin.” Li Yi wrote down the number and said gratefully.

“You’re welcome, it’s just a trivial matter. Alright, I have other things to do. If you have any questions, call me. Oh, you don’t have my contact information yet. You should write that down too.” Lin Yue said.

“Sister Lin, you go ahead and get busy. I also need to buy nutrient solutions. This time, I’m truly very grateful. When I have the ability in the future, I will definitely repay Sister Lin.” Li Yi said very seriously.

Lin Yue smiled and rolled her eyes: “Then you’ll have to work very hard.”

After speaking, she turned and walked into the meditation room.

Li Yi didn’t disturb her anymore. After all, Lin Yue spending two days guiding him and leading him onto the path of cultivation was already a huge help. The rest of the path he had to walk himself.

Thinking of this, he left Uncle Biao’s meditation room.

“First, I’ll go buy nutrient solutions.” Li Yi headed to a relatively large pharmacy nearby.

Business at the pharmacy was somewhat bustling, with many people queuing to buy nutrient solutions. Indeed, cultivation had recently become popular again.

“I want to buy six bottles of Number One nutrient solution.”

When it was Li Yi’s turn, he didn’t hesitate and directly bought a month’s supply for his parents. Thankfully, he had earned ten thousand yuan from Crow that morning, otherwise, they would definitely run out of food today.

After paying six thousand yuan, he thought for a moment, then gritted his teeth and spent another two thousand yuan to buy a bottle of Number Two nutrient solution.

Number Two nutrient solution was for cultivators to supplement their nutrition. Although it was the lowest grade, Li Yi wanted to try its effects.

His money quickly dwindled to just over three thousand. Li Yi didn’t dare to spend any more. He planned to leave the pharmacy and then buy some food to store at home, after which he intended to cultivate diligently at home for a few days, striving to reach the threshold early and become a Guiding Staff.

However, as he was about to leave.

Suddenly, he saw a familiar figure among the queue at the pharmacy entrance.

It was a woman in a slip dress, with a somewhat graceful figure.

“Is that Liu Yan?” Li Yi suspected his eyes were playing tricks on him at that moment, and he couldn’t help but tremble all over.

But wasn’t Liu Yan already dead?

Died from being witnessed, her body bleeding from all seven orifices, lying outside that building in the Waste District.

In the crowd, the queuing Liu Yan seemed to have noticed Li Yi’s gaze. She slowly turned her head, slightly stiffly, and her pale, bloodless face gradually came into view.

Li Yi instantly felt a chill down his spine, quickly averted his gaze, then quickened his pace and fled the pharmacy as if escaping.

Some instinct told him not to be targeted by that Liu Yan.

After walking several kilometers out of the pharmacy, Li Yi finally stopped and gasped for air.

This wasn’t from exhaustion, but from excessive tension.

“Have I already opened my Spiritual Medium and started seeing some unclean things? Or was that Liu Yan really there?” His heart was still cold, and his mind was in a mess.

He looked back and only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that Liu Yan hadn’t followed him.

After calming down, Li Yi could confirm that he definitely hadn’t opened his Spiritual Medium, so he had truly seen Liu Yan just now.

“What exactly is that Liu Yan now? And she’s living in the city like this, yet no one has noticed, not even the cultivators who were queuing just now didn’t feel anything amiss.”

“I somewhat understand what Lin Yue said. Our world is far more dangerous and terrifying than we see.”

Li Yi didn’t dare to linger outside.

Because he wasn’t even sure now if there was only one existence like Liu Yan among the people walking outside, or if there were many similar existences.

After he opened his Spiritual Medium, how many strange and terrifying things would he be able to see?

No wonder people in the Old City died mysteriously every moment.

Perhaps they didn’t die normally; they all encountered some unknown terror.

With these thoughts, Li Yi rushed home as if fleeing.
