Chapter 69: Old News from the Newspaper
by SunflowerLi Xiangdong actually wanted to understand the reason why Hou San’s mind wasn’t sharp. If he asked directly, he was worried that his words would hurt him.
Hou San snorted, “They said I had a fever that burned my brain. I don’t even know about this myself. They just love to talk nonsense. Brother Dong, Ah Zhe, do you think I’m stupid like them?”
Faced with this soul-searching question, Li Xiangdong and Ah Zhe quickly shook their heads.
Ah Zhe comforted, “Don’t listen to their nonsense. They’re just jealous of you.”
Hou San grinned and looked at Li Xiangdong.
Li Xiangdong blurted out, “You’re almost smarter than a monkey with fur. If you’re stupid, are there any smart people in the world? Please give us honest people a way to live!”
He watched Hou San laugh foolishly, but sighed in his heart. It was very likely that Hou San had a fever as a child that affected his brain.
However, after spending time with him, he found that Hou San’s intelligence had a lower limit, but the upper limit was not high.
Rather than being stupid, it was more a matter of being simple and without ulterior motives.
Ah Zhe looked at Hou San and asked, “They bullied you like that, and you didn’t retaliate later?”
Hou San said with a wicked smile, “I did retaliate. I spat in their lunch boxes and secretly peed in their tea mugs!”
Hearing Hou San’s words, Li Xiangdong and Ah Zhe subconsciously pulled their lunch boxes closer. This guy’s methods of messing with people were too dirty. They really couldn’t afford to offend him in the future.
Hou San noticed that the two were no longer talking. He continued, “It’s so boring to do nothing at night and just stay in the hostel. Why don’t I go get two more dishes, and the three of us can have a drink tonight?”
“Hou San, can you handle it? How much can you drink?”
Hearing Ah Zhe’s words, Hou San scratched his head in embarrassment.
“I’ve never had a drink before. My dad won’t let me. But we’re out now, and my dad can’t control me. Can you have a drink with me?”
He was so tightly controlled by his father that a rebellious streak had grown.
Li Xiangdong nodded, “If you want to drink, we’ll drink with you. I’ll go buy the snacks. You figure out the drinks yourself. I don’t have any local tickets.”
Hou San said excitedly, “Alright, I’ll go find someone to exchange for two liquor tickets now.”
He picked up his lunch box, quickly finished the food inside, and then ran out.
Li Xiangdong and Ah Zhe also sped up their eating. After washing their lunch boxes, they went to get two more dishes and paid a 50-cent deposit. Otherwise, the cafeteria wouldn’t let them take the lunch boxes out.
The two returned to the hostel.
Ah Zhe stood at the door and said, “I also have a small bag of fried peanuts. I’ll go back to my room and get them for snacks.”
“Alright, you go.”
Li Xiangdong unlocked the door and went into the room. With nothing to do, he first soaked his feet and then asked the hostel staff for a few old newspapers.
He took out a newspaper, folded it twice, and placed it on the windowsill. This way, his washed socks would be cleaner than if he just hung them on the window.
He filled the thermos with water, and after returning, he moved the table to the middle of the two beds and placed a long bench on one side.
He lay on the bed and started reading the remaining old, expired newspapers.
Li Xiangdong casually picked up one, “Is this tolerable, or is it not tolerable!”
Yo~ This was from half a year ago. Little Yuezi had already been beaten through. But this guy didn’t learn his lesson from being beaten. A few decades later, he still dared to be a fence-sitter. It wasn’t until the canal was built that he became honest again. He was a typical case of needing to be taught a lesson!
He got angry looking at it and changed to another one.
The front page of this newspaper was “A Letter to the People of Taiwan”!
Li Xiangdong turned over and lay on his stomach, reading it carefully.
It signaled that the two sides were opening up channels of communication again.
Then the southeast would be lively again. The more Li Xiangdong read, the more excited he became. The opportunity to get rich was coming. The price of silver dollars would definitely soar next year. He had to hurry up and trade crickets to make money and hoard silver dollars!
“Brother Dong, what are you looking at that’s so happy?”
Hou San came into the room with two bottles of wine.
Li Xiangdong took a bottle and looked at it, “Not bad, Hou San. You’ve got some wild connections. You can even get Lutai Chun, a famous local wine from Tianjin.”
Hou San grinned, “Brother Yang got it for me. I don’t have that kind of ability.”
Li Xiangdong was puzzled, “Aren’t you two on bad terms?”
Hou San shook his head, “No, our families live opposite each other. My relationship with him is okay. Of course, it’s definitely not as close as ours.”
Li Xiangdong smiled, “You didn’t invite him over for a drink?”
Hou San sat on the bed with a plop, “He’s not coming. He said he has something to do tonight.”
Li Xiangdong asked, “Is he also going to pick up goods tonight?”
Hou San shook his head, “Probably not. These old employees all have their own connections. They won’t let outsiders know, and they won’t ask about others.”
Li Xiangdong sneered, “Then Ah Zhe being able to hear the news about the goods pickup, it seems he ran into two idiots.”
Hou San laughed out loud, “Brother Dong, you’re so right. Those two are idiots. They don’t even pay attention to whether there’s anyone around when they talk. Only a fool would let others know their way of making money!”
Li Xiangdong: “…”
If he didn’t know what kind of person Hou San was, he would have gone over and beaten him up!
Hou San suddenly slapped himself in the face with a “smack”. He looked at the dead mosquito in his palm.
“You little bastard, Lord Hou’s blood is so precious. Are you worthy of drinking it?”
He muttered to himself and rubbed his hand vigorously on the bedsheet.
