Chapter Index

“How could he make such a decision?”

The Demon Cavern elders, who had originally been looking forward to Xu Gu’s operations, all flushed with anger, their eyes filled with fury.

They felt as if they had been defiled.

    It was completely intolerable.

“What place is our Great Cool Demon Cavern? A legacy of three thousand years, the strongest, oldest demonic holy land on the Central Continent!”

    “How can it be renamed!”

“Great Love Immortal Sect? What kind of ridiculous name is that!”

“And his actions are completely in line with the righteous path’s style!”

“This person is a righteous spy! He must be eliminated!”

The Demon Cavern elders were all filled with righteous indignation, unable to accept Xu Gu, and started complaining about him to Han Changsheng.

Of course, the reason they wanted to get rid of Xu Gu was not actually that his conduct was “too righteous.” They had never cared about process, only results.

The real reason was that earlier line from Xu Gu—“I alone am the Demon Cavern”—made them realize that Xu Gu was too demonic. They felt they might not be able to suppress him, which gave rise to fear.

    “It’s over!”

The righteous spies all turned pale, blood draining from their faces.

The hearts they had been hanging on finally went cold.

Senior Brother Xu Gu, because he was too righteous, had still been exposed in the end.

“Should we beg our elders to rescue Senior Brother Xu Gu?”

Illusion Colored Clothes asked anxiously through voice transmission.

    “Of course!”

“Cultivators like Senior Brother Xu Gu, whose hearts are wholly for the righteous path and all living beings, are far too rare.”

“If we don’t save Senior Brother Xu Gu, won’t that chill the hearts of righteous cultivators all over the world?”

The righteous spies had already made their decision.

Even if their undercover mission failed this time and startled the snake, they would still ask their elders to act and rescue Xu Gu.

“Noisy,” Han Changsheng said, coughing lightly, his face expressionless. “When did we demonic cultivators ever care so much about process? We care about results.

    “Wait for the result.”

Originally, he was wary of Xu Gu, afraid that all the Demon Cavern elders would fully support Xu Gu and sideline him.

Now that Xu Gu had stirred public outrage, he naturally no longer needed to fear him.

He had already started to cherish his talent.

The five righteous spies’ eyes lit up, and their frozen hearts were once again uplifted.

“Hmph! What result could there be!”

“Does he really think that putting on this rotten-righteous-path attitude can fool the righteous sects or win their sympathy?”

    “In his dreams!”

The demonic elders, constrained by the senior brother’s authority, did not dare say more, but their faces did not change much. They did not believe Xu Gu could pass this trial.

They were already planning to accuse him of incompetence afterward.

Then keep him firmly outside the gates.

Inside the illusion, time passed, and in the blink of an eye, several months had gone by.

    “Not good!”

“The righteous path army is here!”

“Demon Lord, how do we escape?”

The trusted demonic cultivators were in a panic, scrambling and rolling as they rushed to Xu Gu.

They had long been scared out of their wits.

The incoming righteous cultivators were like a sea of people, uncountable.

Even a casual leak from them could drown the whole Cavern.

    “Noisy.”

Xu Gu’s voice suddenly rose as his aura soared. Pressure surged like a boundless sea, shaking the nine heavens.

“What a bunch of trash. I’ll optimize you out sooner or later.”

As he spoke, his body rose higher and higher until he stood in midair, facing the righteous army.

“Demon Lord, you are already surrounded!”

“Surrender now, and there is still time!”

The leaders of the righteous path shouted at Xu Gu.

But Xu Gu remained unmoved and only said faintly, “You are the ones surrounded.”

“As expected of the Demon Lord!”

    “So domineering!”

All the demonic cultivators below were completely subdued by Xu Gu, filled with extreme admiration.

Even the righteous experts were shaken by his tone and aura, their eyes full of wariness.

    Then—

They heard Xu Gu say, as if it were only natural, “You have trespassed into private property. I’ve already reported you to the authorities.”

Heaven and earth fell suddenly silent.

Everyone—demonic or righteous, inside the illusion or outside—had their minds go completely blank at Xu Gu’s words.

The Demon Lord reported them to the authorities?

What kind of bizarre operation was this?

Wasn’t this the equivalent of a rat going to a cat for help?

Inside the illusion, the righteous cultivators were stunned for quite some time before coming back to themselves.

“You demonic cultivators have committed countless crimes and now you report to the authorities? Are you turning yourselves in?” The righteous leader laughed.

Xu Gu shook his head, seriously denying it.

“Demonic cultivators? You’re looking for the wrong people.

“We are a properly registered sect filed with the Great Shang court and paying taxes according to the law. How could our disciples be demonic cultivators?”

As he spoke, Xu Gu pointed at the stone stele with the sect’s name carved on it, the meaning obvious.

    “Great Love Immortal Sect?”

All the righteous cultivators looked at one another.

When did the Great Cool Demon Cavern change its name?

Or had they really come to the wrong place?

In fact, it wasn’t just them who were confused. The demonic cultivators were confused too.

    As they were still wondering—

    “It’s them!”

A group of elderly uncles and aunties pointed angrily at the righteous cultivators and said to the officials behind them:

“It’s them! In broad daylight, they dared invade Great Love Immortal Sect!

“And they even say these people are demonic cultivators. If they were demonic cultivators or not, wouldn’t we common folk know?”

The corners of the righteous cultivators’ mouths twitched.

For some reason, they all had a bad feeling.

The constables and officers who had come to handle the case stepped forward according to procedure and, expressionless, said to the righteous cultivators:

“We have received complaints from 107,000 villagers against you.

“You are accused of violating 172 articles of the Great Shang law.

“Now, please cooperate with our investigation.”

    “Huh?”

Inside and outside the illusion, both righteous and demonic cultivators widened their eyes, minds blank with shock.

What was going on? Had the heavens turned upside down?

The Demon Lord reported them, the authorities ignored him, and instead arrested the righteous cultivators?

“If you are dissatisfied, you may file a protest,” the lead officer said lightly.

“We are dissatisfied!” the righteous cultivators said, faces flushed with anger. “We accept being reported and are willing to be investigated! But they are demonic cultivators guilty of countless crimes. They must all be—”

“Silence!” the officer snapped. “What demonic cultivators? They are an exemplary sect officially registered under the Great Shang Dynasty, paying taxes regularly and fully!”

Xu Gu spread his hands and pulled out a stack of embroidered banners from his robe.

They were all commendations from the Great Shang Dynasty.

They included, but were not limited to:

    Award for Maintaining Neighborhood Harmony,
Award for Timely and Full Tax Payment,
Award for Resettling and Employing the Jobless,
Award for Acts of Bravery in the Face of Danger,
And the glorious title of Righteous Avatar for Reporting and Helping Eradicate Several Nearby Demonic Factions.

The righteous cultivators’ faces twitched, dark lines crawling over their foreheads.

This damned guy had actually washed himself clean!!!

    In the end—

The Great Cool Demon Cavern not only escaped the righteous path’s siege, but even had the invading righteous army thrown into prison.

Xu Gu cleared the trial smoothly.

    “Hiss—”

Outside the illusion, both righteous and demonic sides drew in a sharp breath, frozen in place for a long time, unable to react.

    “This can’t be real, right?”

“Not only did he escape the righteous siege and fully clear the trial,

“He even got the righteous army thrown into prison?”

    “Tell me I’m dreaming!”

The demon heads all swallowed hard, their faces full of shock, their worldviews on the verge of collapse, their dao hearts cracking.

Was this… a way to cultivate demons?

It had always been the righteous path sending demonic cultivators to jail.

Now you sent the righteous army to jail?

Are we sure we didn’t get it backwards?

They felt a sense of disbelief like a mouse having its way with a cat.

“He really did it,” Han Changsheng said after a long daze, a trace of emotional collapse showing on his face. He had used the supreme treasure to simulate this countless times without ever finding a solution. He had deemed it impossible.

Yet Xu Gu resolved it with just a light move?

Was the gap between demon and demon really that huge?

A moment later, the entire place exploded. Both righteous and demonic cultivators’ expressions were extremely complicated, but they all held Xu Gu in extremely high esteem.

“As expected of a natural-born demonic seed!”

“He’s demonic to the point of righteousness!”

“Facing a deathtrap like a righteous siege, he could still handle it with ease and even turn the tables! This is true genius!”

All the demonic elders were full of admiration.

If the Demon Cavern had such a strategist, why worry about failing to revive?

Thinking back to how they had doubted Xu Gu before, they were deeply ashamed.

Someone this demonic, who had dealt with all the righteous cultivators, was something even the founding ancestor of the demonic path could not have done—yet they had suspected he was righteous.

    Meanwhile—

The righteous spies were also filled with worship.

“As expected of Senior Brother Xu Gu, the very incarnation of the righteous path! Even after losing his memories and becoming a Demon Lord in the Demon Cavern, he still whole-heartedly turned these heinous demonic cultivators onto the correct road!

“Most importantly, his abilities are outstanding. He even managed to win over all the great demon heads with sheer competence! He’s incredible.”
