Chapter Index

    Spring rain.

The rain drizzled on and on.

The mountain path was treacherous, slippery and muddy.

People silently concealed their fatigue, still maintaining formation, advancing at a steady pace.

    The captain’s voice rang out:

“The magical hut is just ahead, we’ll rest there tonight!”

    “Yes!” everyone responded in unison.

The captain added, “Brother Peggy, I suggest you at least wait until dawn before crossing this mountain, it will be safer.”

“Alright, then I’ll move with you all,” Shen Ye chuckled.

As he said this, everyone’s expressions clearly relaxed.

—Just now a fierce tiger had charged out from behind the bushes, and before anyone could react, it was shot dead by this Brother Peggy.

    What excellent archery!

Having such a hermit by their side made them feel a bit safer.

“Come on, the military rations at the hut aren’t great, but I remember there are a few bottles of wine, I’ll share some with you tonight,” the soldier captain said with a smile.

“Then I thank you,” Shen Ye replied.

The team unconsciously quickened their pace.

    The rain grew heavier.

The team turned around several winding mountain paths when someone suddenly shouted, “We’re here.”

Shen Ye looked up and saw a large, tall wooden house on a flat area jutting out from the mountainside.

A faint light appeared beside the wooden house:

    “Magical Hut.”

“Permanently enchanted with some life and defensive magic, for human soldiers to rest.”

    —It was a magical structure!

The soldier captain quickly approached the wooden house, pulled out a badge, and pressed it firmly into the groove on the door.

    “Click, click, click, click—”

    A sound of gears turning.

    The door opened.

Inside the house, candles were already lit everywhere.

Several large platters of roasted coarse bread appeared on the table, along with iron mugs filled with milk mixed with tea leaves.

The soldier captain was not satisfied, however, and flicked the badge on the door with his finger, saying:

“I am Captain Bronte of the Ninth Patrol, requesting captain’s supplies.”

    After a few breaths.

Several bottles of wine, a pot of meat stew, and a pack of cigarettes appeared on the table.

    Everyone immediately cheered.

Captain Bronte then puffed out his chest, raised his head, and waved to Shen Ye:

“Brother Peggy, please come in and rest with your sister.”

“Thank you for the invitation,” Shen Ye said.

He glanced back at the puppet Annie.

    Annie was expressionless.

—There was no helping it, she was his puppet, and unless he commanded otherwise, she wouldn’t do anything.

Shen Ye had to make the puppet speak:

“Brother, it’s cold outside, let’s go in and rest.”

Then he spoke himself: “Alright, sister, let’s go in together.”

He was talking to himself, and everyone else around him had perfectly normal expressions.

    It was quite bizarre.

But there was no other way.

The patrol squad consisted of eight soldiers.

They entered the wooden house, took off their soaked armor, placed their accompanying spears and short swords on the weapon rack, and then lit a fire in the fireplace. Only then did they comfortably sit down at the long wooden table.

With the fire, the room gradually grew warmer.

“Brother Peggy, and Sister Rolly, come and have supper with us.”

Bronte called out to the two of them.

“No, thank you, we’ve already eaten,” Shen Ye said with a smile.

Annie found a large chair, sat cross-legged, closed her eyes, and seemed to enter a meditative state.

This reclusive demeanor naturally inspired awe.

Of course, Shen Ye was just trying to save trouble.

He took the wine offered by Bronte, took a sip, and then focused his attention on the Dharma form.

    Within the Dharma form—

“Big Skeleton, come take a look!”

    He called out.

Big Skeleton jumped down from the immortal puppet, walked over to him, squatted down, and carefully probed the corpse.

“This is a materialized body of a soul.”

Big Skeleton said with certainty: “When some powerful souls are separated from their bodies for too long, in order to protect themselves, they materialize a body out of soul energy for combat.”

On the ground was a humanoid corpse, its head covered with slender arms, and a spiked tail on its back.

In fact, this soul body was almost indistinguishable from the corpse of an Emperor Species.

—Its corpse was in Song Yinchen’s hands.

“I’ve always been curious why you went into the great tomb—don’t lie, tell me the truth.”

    Shen Ye said.

    —”Whispers of the Dark” activated!

The corpse of the Emperor Species twitched, then stilled, not making a sound.

    “It’s not talking.”

Shen Ye looked at Big Skeleton.

“What are we waiting for then?” Big Skeleton shrugged.

“Go teach it how to be a person,” Shen Ye snapped his fingers.

The corpse on the ground instantly vanished.

    A few minutes later.

The soul-corpse of the Emperor Species reappeared.

“What did the Spirit-master of the Seal of Fate tell you back then?” the Emperor Species asked feebly.

Shen Ye found it a bit amusing.

This guy was truly stubborn, clearly having endured prolonged torture, yet upon returning, he tried to turn the tables and question him.

Shen Ye decided to play along: “The Spirit-master of the Seal of Fate told me to go deep into the great tomb to find the Nightmare Technique.”

“She has no memories, so she completely misunderstood. In fact, the origin of that technique should be in the Nightmare World,” said the Emperor Species.

“How do you know?” Shen Ye asked.

“I’ve been hit by that technique, how could I not know where it came from?” the Emperor Species retorted.

    That made sense.

Annie also said to obtain that technique in the Nightmare World.

“I don’t think that technique is very powerful, it hit you several times but didn’t kill you.”

    Shen Ye said.

“Because it was just an indiscriminate attack, no one truly controlled it,” said the Emperor Species.

“Do you know how to control it?” Shen Ye asked.

    “No.”

“Why did you go into the great tomb?” Shen Ye asked again.

    “…” the Emperor Species.

“Not talking? Go teach it how to be a person,” Shen Ye said.

    The Emperor Species vanished again.

“Just now, it made such a detour, I almost forgot to ask it about this matter,” Big Skeleton sighed.

    After a few breaths.

The Emperor Species reappeared before them.

“Still not telling?” Shen Ye asked.

“No,” the Emperor Species said with difficulty.

    Shen Ye was somewhat moved.

Under the inquiry of the Whispers of the Dark, one could not lie.

    Yet, it still wouldn’t speak!

Each time it refused to speak, its soul would endure thousands or tens of thousands of years of torment.

The Emperor Species would rather endure such torture than tell him why it entered the Great Tomb.

    That secret must be astonishing.

    But—

“Forget it, I respect you as a man, I won’t torment you anymore.”

Shen Ye stood up and said sincerely.

He patted Big Skeleton on the shoulder and turned to walk to the other side of the Dharma form.

—All the gold collected and exchanged by Kunlun was placed there before.

Now was the time to reap the rewards.

After a few steps, he saw Big Skeleton following him.

    “Why are you following me?”

    Shen Ye asked, surprised.

“What else?” Big Skeleton was confused.

    “Eat it,” Shen Ye said.

Big Skeleton was startled, then immediately trembled with excitement.

    Eat an Emperor Species?

Wouldn’t that mean he could transform into such an incredibly powerful cosmic monster?

    “Shen Ye, you’re the best!”

Big Skeleton cheered and ran back.

Shen Ye shook his head and continued walking towards the gold.

If it wouldn’t speak after tens of thousands of years of torture, then he wouldn’t ask.

But the resentment of Hun Tian Sect must be avenged.

    —Let its soul die too.

    In a flash.

Shen Ye stood before a pile of gold, quickly putting the matter of the Emperor Species out of his mind.

A line of faint text appeared:

“Current gold quantity is sufficient to directly upgrade one building level.”

    What to upgrade?

Sira was land, the barracks could summon comrades from the Great Tomb barracks, and traps and wild nests were for dealing with invading enemies.

    Upgrade the barracks.

He still wanted to inquire about the situation in the Great Tomb, to see how everyone was doing now.

    “Upgrade barracks.”

    Shen Ye said.

    Faint text quickly appeared:

“All gold deducted, barracks upgraded to level three.”

“Level three barracks can summon a Tomb Guardian General, first summon is free.”

“Current world is a nightmare world, summoned entity will appear directly in this world, estimated single stay duration:”

    “12 hours.”

    “Summon now?”

    “Summon!” Shen Ye said.

It had been too long since he had contact with the real world; at this moment, he desperately wanted to find someone he knew to exchange information about their situations.

    Knock, knock, knock—

A knock on the door sounded from outside.

The soldiers, who were eating and drinking, all looked up.

    “Who is it!”

Bronte shouted, reaching for the spear on the weapon rack.

A clear female voice rang out:

    “I’m looking for someone.”

    Everyone exchanged glances.

Bronte held a spear in one hand and tapped the wall three times with the other.

A mirror immediately appeared on the wall, showing the scene outside the door.

    “It’s a woman—a human.”

    Bronte said.

Shen Ye spoke up: “She’s my companion.”

“Come take a look,” Bronte said seriously.

“Don’t worry, she’s a companion I’ve known for many years,” Shen Ye said.

“Alright, go open the door and let her in.”

Shen Ye walked to the door, unlocked the bolt, and pulled the door open.

Indeed, standing outside was a girl wearing a bamboo hat and a black veil over her face.

She wore a long gray dress, with two long swords at her waist. As the door opened, her bright eyes peered out from under the bamboo hat, meeting Shen Ye’s gaze.

    Xiao Mengyu.

According to Guo Yunye’s earlier statement, she had progressed quite quickly, having entered the third level of the Great Tomb.

The third level, naturally, corresponded to the third level of the barracks.

    Tomb Guardian General.

    “Please come in.”

    Shen Ye said.

“Brother Peggy, who is this—” Bronte asked.

“I am Peggy’s bodyguard, no need to ask further,” Xiao Mengyu said.

“I see, I thought Brother Peggy had two sisters,” Bronte joked.

    Two sisters?

Xiao Mengyu’s eyes swept around and immediately spotted Annie sitting cross-legged.

She strolled over, sat down beside Annie, and chuckled:

“Peggy, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen my sister, I have some private things to tell her, so you don’t need to get involved.”

Shen Ye felt a little helpless.

    —I have to get involved!

The puppet wouldn’t chat with you, and if it accidentally revealed itself, it would definitely be troublesome.

Annie suddenly opened her eyes, smiled at Xiao Mengyu, and said:

“Sister, come with me, I have something to tell you.”

She jumped off the chair, took Xiao Mengyu’s hand, and walked to the other side of the house.

The two girls, one large and one small, conversed in the corner for a long time.

Shen Ye continued to drink his wine.

Though called wine, it tasted more like grape juice.

By now, the night had deepened.

Occasionally, lightning flashed across the sky outside.

The rain continued to fall relentlessly, rustling on the roof.

The soldiers, having eaten and drunk their fill, began to feel drowsy.

Captain Bronte stayed on watch for the first half of the night, sending everyone else upstairs to sleep.

The cold rain of early spring night was still quite chilly.

The captain was also diligent, adding another log to the fireplace, then sat there with a sabre in his arms, lost in thought.

Shen Ye, holding a glass of wine, walked to the fireplace and found a seat, casually striking up a conversation:

“I’ve been in the mountains for too long, I don’t know what’s happening outside—has war broken out?”

“Originally, the undead were preparing to attack our borders, and the orcs were fighting the elves, but now it’s all over,” Bronte said.

    “It’s over?” Shen Ye asked.

    “Yes, it’s all over.”

Bronte looked a bit tired, so he lit a cigarette, took two puffs, and then continued:

“Who has the mind to care about those old grudges when facing terrifying demons?”

“Are they good at fighting?” Shen Ye asked.

“Brother Peggy, demons have the four forbidden talents, don’t you know?” Bronte retorted.

“I really don’t,” Shen Ye admitted.

Bronte said: “There’s nothing to hide about this. Demons mostly possess unknown powers. Among the powerful ones, they can temporarily ban four of your powers.”

“Four powers?” Shen Ye didn’t understand.

“Yes, for example, if you are skilled in a certain spell, once a demon discovers it can be harmed by that spell, it immediately bans your ability to cast it,” Bronte said.

“So… if I’m a mage, it can ban four of my spells?” Shen Ye asked in disbelief.

    “That’s right.”

“What if I’m a melee fighter?”

“Same thing, your mind will go blank, temporarily forgetting a certain skill.”

    “Are all demons like this?”

“Weaker demons can ban one or two of your abilities, only powerful ones can ban four,” Bronte said.

“It can’t be that they can even ban Dharma forms, can it?”

“Of course, they can ban Dharma forms. Otherwise, our four races wouldn’t have united to fight for survival,” Bronte said.

“How long can it ban for?”

“More than ten minutes—enough to finish a battle.”

    Shen Ye fell into contemplation.

Under the blessing of Dharma form, skill power could increase two to five times.

The stronger the strength, the more the multiplier increased.

So, when professionals wanted to decide victory or defeat, or life and death, in battle, they would activate their Dharma form and use ultimate moves.

If there was no Dharma form blessing, it would indeed greatly reduce combat power.

When he loses his Dharma form, archery, swordsmanship…

    He dared not even imagine.

    Wait.

He had the future-related term “will meet under the moon at Yao Terrace.”

If the Dharma form was banned, he wondered if he could use what was inside the Dharma form.

    Even if it worked—

If the enemy could ban four abilities taken from the Dharma form, it would still be very troublesome.

    At this moment.

Annie tiptoed back to Shen Ye, sat down behind him, crossed her legs, and began to meditate.

Xiao Mengyu remained in the other corner of the house.

Shen Ye stood up, walked over, and watched the lightning and heavy rain outside the window with her.

“I can’t believe you’ve been through so much and ended up here.”

    Xiao Mengyu whispered.

She still couldn’t resist looking at Annie.

“What about you all? What’s the situation now?” Shen Ye asked.

“Everyone whose strength reached the seventh level of the Dharma realm has passed through the wall of the third level of the Great Tomb and gone to the Immortal Kingdom.”

    Xiao Mengyu said.

“Do you have anything to eat while you’re in the Great Tomb?” Shen Ye asked worriedly.

“There are some production-oriented professionals, so nobody starves. Besides that, there’s a lot of worry, no one knows what tomorrow will bring.”

“Some mentally fragile professionals were directly thrown out of the Great Tomb.”

    “Huh?” Shen Ye was startled.

“What’s there to ‘huh’ about? Rather than letting them become destabilizing factors in the Great Tomb, it’s better to let them go to the ground, forget themselves, and become part of that era, so at least they don’t cause trouble,” Xiao Mengyu said.

“How have you been these past few days?” Shen Ye asked.

Xiao Mengyu’s eyes softened a bit as she whispered, “I acquired a sword technique from the Immortal Kingdom, and combined with my original psychic sword, my strength has improved somewhat.”

“A sword technique from the Immortal Kingdom?” Shen Ye was surprised.

“Yes, after acquiring this sword technique, many trials emerged, trying to kill me, but I miraculously survived,” Xiao Mengyu said.

“Then that sword technique must be very powerful,” Shen Ye said, moved.

Xiao Mengyu nodded and asked, “What’s the situation in this world now?”

“The nightmare world has become a bit strange, enemies have a talent called ‘Four Prohibitions’.”

Shen Ye then explained the situation in detail.

    Xiao Mengyu smiled.

“What are you laughing at?” Shen Ye asked in surprise.

“The demons have to see my skill to know whether or not to ban it, right?” Xiao Mengyu said.

    “Right,” Shen Ye said.

    Knock, knock, knock—

A knock on the door sounded.

The two stopped their conversation and looked towards the door.

    “Who is it?”

    Bronte asked warily.

“Allies from the forest, sending you sincere greetings,” a hurried voice from outside said.

Bronte tapped the wall three times with his hand.

    A mirror then appeared.

    “Elves… fine.”

Bronte walked towards the house door, explaining as he went: “Brother Peggy, everyone is united now. According to the requirements, elves are indeed qualified to enter our camp to rest, so—”

“I don’t mind,” Shen Ye said.

    Bronte then opened the door.

Only to see two elves standing outside, covered in blood.

    “Come in quickly,” Bronte said.

    Abruptly, something strange happened—

“So naive, then all of you shall die!”

Amidst the ferocious roar, a sharp claw swatted aside the two elves, revealing a hideous figure behind them.

    A demon!

It had two horns on its head, a pale face, blood-red eyes, protruding fangs, and its body was covered in strange runes, standing about two meters tall.

The demon was engulfed in emerald green flames, charging straight at Bronte.

    Clang!

    A clear ringing sound.

A flash of sword light appeared and vanished.

“We weren’t finished talking just now—”

Xiao Mengyu slowly explained, “It saw my sword, and it was already dead, how could it have had any chance to use its ban?”

    At the door.

    The demon froze.

A thin line of blood appeared on its body, splitting its forehead downwards, cutting its entire body into two symmetrical halves.

A streak of light pierced through its body, flew back, and shook itself along the way, flicking off all the blood.

The streak of light appeared in the void behind Xiao Mengyu.

It was her Remnant Snow Sword.

The long sword gently descended, returning to its sheath.

Only then did the demon’s body completely separate and fall to the ground.

    “Hey, get in quickly.”

Shen Ye called out to the two elves.

The two elves, as if waking from a dream, disregarding their injuries, desperately rushed into the magic hut and fell to the ground.

    Bang!

Bronte closed the door, pointed his spear at the elves,

    and erupted in anger:

“You actually colluded with demons to trick me into opening the door!”

“Don’t be like that,” Shen Ye walked over, pressing down on the spear, “Their injuries are severe, they must have been coerced, with no room to resist whatsoever.”

    Bronte suddenly froze.

Shen Ye also looked back, only to see the two elves lying on the ground, no longer moving an inch.

    They were dead.

    Something flashed past the window.

Bronte’s face changed drastically, and he immediately walked to the hut’s door, opened a secret compartment, and vigorously shook the bell inside.

    Ding, ding, ding—

The ringing of the bell echoed throughout the magical hut.

    Sounds quickly came from upstairs.

Several soldiers, fully uniformed, hurried down, took their weapons from the weapon rack, and then stood in a line.

“Chief, what’s going on?” a soldier asked.

“Demons,” Bronte spat out two words.

The soldiers looked at the dead elves on the ground, and their faces all changed.

A strange voice suddenly sounded outside the hut:

“You have one quarter of an hour to surrender, otherwise everyone will die!”

Xiao Mengyu suddenly said, “So that’s how it is.”

    “What’s wrong?” Shen Ye asked.

“Although my sword just now killed the demon, its companions also saw that sword.”

Xiao Mengyu gently stroked the Remnant Snow Sword at her waist, continuing:

“—So now I’ve forgotten that sword technique.”

Shen Ye waved his hand, and an ice longbow appeared in his grasp.

Things were getting a bit tricky.

If the enemy’s companions saw the scene of killing an enemy, they could still activate the ban.

Then it would be best to kill all enemies at once.

This difficulty was a bit high…

He walked to the window, lifted the latch, and pushed the window open.

    “Brother Peggy!”

Bronte was shocked and furious, immediately about to rush forward.

Xiao Mengyu suddenly appeared in front of him, reaching out a hand, and pressed him in place.

    “Calm down.”

    Xiao Mengyu said.

Shen Ye looked at the night rain outside the window, took a deep breath, and shouted loudly:

“Not sleeping so late, and coming here to fight and kill, are you all sick!”

—The True Man of Danger began to educate the masses!

    These demons were not bio-armor.

Bio-armor were inanimate objects, so they would only sustain damage and not immediately die.

But these demons, having been subjected to the “True Man of Danger’s Education,” the primary effect was—

    In the dark mountain forest.

Large patches of crimson “Danger” characters popped out, illuminating the entire mountainside.

    “So many?”

Shen Ye was startled, but his hand had already raised the longbow.

His hand moved like a phantom.

    Swish, swish, swish, swish, swish—

    Archery: Starfall!

Dense arrows shot from the bowstring, soaring into the sky, each splitting into twelve, transforming into beautiful arcs of icy light, pouring down like a torrential rain.

The “Danger” characters all over the mountainside began to stir.

They wanted to resist this attack.

    But—

Who knows what went wrong, either their hands slipped and they missed their weapons, or they tripped over their feet, or their vision was blurred by the rain.

Screams, near and far, echoed again and again.

A line of faint text appeared before Shen Ye’s eyes:

“Your Archery: Starfall has been banned for ten minutes.”

Shen Ye stood still, looking outside.

Only to see the crimson “Danger” characters dissipating one after another.

—Until the forest returned to complete darkness.

    Bronte was already dumbfounded.

Xiao Mengyu chuckled, saying, “This deal is worth it, unless they have another expert.”

    In the distant mountains.

    A strange roar suddenly sounded.

This sound was different from the previous demons, imbued with an inexplicable momentum.

Shen Ye glanced back at Xiao Mengyu, a hint of teasing in his eyes.

“My fault, I spoke too soon,” Xiao Mengyu said.

“But it’s a bit strange… why are there so many demons?” Shen Ye whispered.

    Outside in the mountain forest.

Under the cover of heavy rain and night, Big Skeleton silently appeared.

It led the Four Kings and began collecting demon corpses, as well as various valuable items they dropped.
