“Please debut in the world of the undead, thoroughly shock them, and let the world feel the charm of art!”

    “—The true Diva!”

    Shen Ye: “…”

It might have felt better without these last few lines.

    Alright,

    Diva it is.

Shen Ye reached out to touch the lightning wings extending from his back.

    Sizzle sizzle sizzle—

    “Ouch, what the heck?”

The lightning shocked him, making his whole body twitch and his hair stand on end.

“I never thought a diva would electrocute herself; shouldn’t she be electrifying others?” Big Skeleton asked curiously.

“Normal procedure,” Shen Ye coughed lightly to hide his embarrassment, “You should know, we call this rehearsal.”

“I’ve never seen twitching rehearsals like this.”

    “Shut up.”

Do you think I want to?

Isn’t choosing this profession out of necessity?

To give my gate ability a chance to improve…

By the way, how is my gate ability?

Shen Ye looked into the void.

Sure enough, new faint luminous words appeared on the void gate:

“You have been appointed as a ‘Diva’ and acquired professional abilities. Your ‘gate’ ability has ushered in new opportunities.”

“You have only one chance to obtain the gate’s new ability: ‘Star Shift’.”

“To obtain this ability, you must receive an evaluation entry of at least Blue Excellent grade in tomorrow’s first inter-world crossing.”

“The higher the grade of the entry, the better the effect of ‘Star Shift’!”

    —At least a Blue entry!

    Only one chance!

Shen Ye walked back and forth in the room.

There were five days left until his duel with Skinner.

    Indeed.

He now possessed various combat methods.

But at the most dangerous moment, he used his gate ability to defeat the human figurine, thus obtaining the identity of a true disciple of the Hun Tian Gate.

Against Skinner, the gate was also the most important ability.

Because he could use it at will!

    So.

—He had finally activated the opportunity for the gate’s evolution.

    He must obtain it!

But what method could guarantee a blue entry tomorrow?

    None!

    No.

…Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Perhaps he should prepare more today.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

    Shen Ye stopped.

Before he could speak, the door was kicked open.

A short man shrouded entirely in shadows and a sturdy undead war dog appeared at the doorway.

—Followed by a squad of skeleton soldiers.

“Young vampire, what’s your name? Where are you from?”

    The short man asked.

“It’s the assassins of the Pale Shadow. They are responsible for patrolling and apprehending criminals according to the wanted posters.” Big Skeleton whispered telepathically.

“Baxter, retired from the front line, found a job at the Veteran’s Guild, just settled down.”

Shen Ye said, displaying his soldier’s dog tag.

The dog tag was snatched away and inspected repeatedly.

“Veteran’s Guild…” The short man stared at the dog tag, casting a few spells to verify its authenticity, “Have you found a job yet?”

    “Diva,” Shen Ye said.

“What? You actually became a Diva?” The short man’s expression changed.

The undead war dog beside him no longer adopted a pouncing stance, instead retracting its fangs and involuntarily wagging its tail.

    —Just like seeing an idol.

“Yes, I’ve become a Diva—what’s wrong?” Shen Ye was confused.

“A Diva must have a guide. Who is your guide?” the short man asked.

    “Ms. Daisy.”

“Ah… I know her, the head of the Night Rose Dance Troupe… Damn it, something must be wrong…”

The short man looked at Shen Ye, pulled out a list, scanned it briefly, and looked somewhat disappointed and annoyed.

“Sir, what’s the situation? I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong.”

Shen Ye glanced at the skeleton soldiers standing ready outside the door, pondered for a moment, then casually pulled out a handful of bone coins and, in front of the short man, slipped them into his pocket.

“Hey, no need for this—hey, you really are—”

The short man’s tone softened, and the shadow encompassing him disappeared.

Shen Ye could finally see his appearance.

—This was a gaunt man, his skin sallow and dark, his eyes bulging like those of a dead fish, and his face devoid of expression.

But a golden badge was pinned to his black leather armor with silver trim.

“Shadow Assassin, badge of the Head of Public Security of Evernight City.”

    Big Skeleton whispered telepathically.

“What exactly happened? That it bothered you, Commander, to personally come here?” Shen Ye asked.

As he asked, the short zombie casually swung his arm, allowing it to rest against his side.

With this gesture, he felt the weight of the bone coins in his pocket, thus accurately calculating the number.

—It was a pretty good number.

The zombie put away the list, his face showing a genuine apology:

“A large prison is to be built by the Ice River, specifically for imprisoning those disobedient fellows. We are looking for laborers…”

“But you are a noble Diva, of course you wouldn’t be dragged to do such work.”

“It must have been those blind fools who made a mistake.”

“How should I address you?” Shen Ye asked.

“You can call me Kevin, Mr. Baxter,” the short zombie said.

“Officer Kevin, frankly, I just settled in Evernight City and don’t have many friends. You’re welcome to visit me at the Veteran’s Guild anytime. If I’m not there, I’ll be resting here,” Shen Ye said honestly.

“No problem—recently, the whole city has been hunting down some extremely vicious characters. You’d best avoid desolate places; this is for your safety,” Kevin said, staring into his eyes.

“Thank you for your kindness,” Shen Ye said gratefully.

The Shadow Assassin, Head of Public Security of Evernight City, Zombie Kevin, looked at him, then slowly nodded after a moment, leading the undead war dog, and turned to walk out the door.

“Recall! To the inn across the street!”

    He commanded.

    The skeleton soldiers followed him.

Only after they went downstairs did a voice come from the void beside them:

    “Sir, a fat sheep.”

“A Diva is someone the Count values—don’t be reckless,” Kevin replied, not stopping, and walked towards the street across the way.

Shen Ye gently closed the door.

“Do you want to go back to your world? Evernight City is indeed quite dangerous lately, they’re hunting me everywhere,” Big Skeleton said.

In the past, Shen Ye would have returned without hesitation.

    But now—

To prepare in advance, so that he could obtain a Blue Excellent grade evaluation entry tomorrow—

“No, we’re not going back,” Shen Ye said.

“Operating against the wind?” Big Skeleton asked.

“We are law-abiding citizens—come on, let’s go to the Veteran’s Guild.”

    A few minutes later.

    The Veteran’s Guild’s recruitment office.

    “You’re looking for Ms. Daisy?”

The undead mage said with a smile, even proactively pouring Shen Ye a cup of steaming bone spirit tea.

This was a tea brewed with tea bags, unlike the tea powder Shen Ye was familiar with. These tea bags contained specially made bone powder.

A line of ghostly glow-in-the-dark text appeared on the tea bag:

“Salty and spicy flavor, worth owning.”

    Shen Ye took a sip.

—It didn’t taste like tea at all; instead, it felt like drinking pork rib soup from his previous life.

There was a bit too much pepper.

Watching the undead mage gracefully sip his tea-bone soup, Shen Ye felt he could never achieve the same elegant and artistic way of drinking tea.

“Yes, I have completed my appointment, and now I am a Diva. May I ask how I can find her?” Shen Ye asked in a hesitant tone.

The undead mage was overjoyed, put down his teacup, and said:

“You’re a Diva now? That’s wonderful, wait for me—”

He stood up, opened the safe behind him, took out a badge, and solemnly handed it to Shen Ye:

“It’s not very peaceful outside right now, people are being arrested every day. Wear this on your chest when you go out and find Ms. Daisy at the Grand Opera House in the city center.”

“She’ll be very happy to see you.”

“Really? Thank you then,” Shen Ye said.

He gazed at the badge, which was made of metal, outlined with red and silver to form a rose, emitting a faint, strange fluctuation that was somewhat captivating.

A line of faint luminous text appeared beside it:

“Exclusive badge of the Night Rose Dance Troupe, representing your identity as a dance performer. Ordinary people must not make things difficult for you.”

    Good stuff.

Shen Ye directly pinned the badge to his chest.
