Chapter Index

“Do you want to die by my hand?”

As Charlotte spoke, an invisible, powerful force reverberated through the magic cabin.

    The Queen Mother didn’t respond.

But in this confined space, another force appeared.

It emanated from the Queen Mother, and as soon as it emerged, it immediately began to clash with the previous force.

Shen Ye glanced out the window.

    “I Exist in the Mirror!”

He vanished from his spot, lightly landing in the mirror world.

    It worked!

Charlotte had integrated all personalities, becoming the strongest of the Nine Aspects!

The enemy was the Emperor Queen Mother.

If he just stood by in this battle, it would be seeking death.

It was better to quickly get out of the way.

Lest Charlotte have to worry about him.

Shen Ye looked out through the mirror.

The two forces constantly intertwined, causing everything around to collapse and scatter into the distance.

The entire world fell into a deadly silence.

A chilling aura of killing intent emerged quietly, instantly sweeping across heaven and earth.

The Queen Mother, still floating in mid-air, finally spoke:

“An ant of the fifth realm of the Dharma Realm dares to kill my offspring. This matter won’t end here.”

“What do you want?” Charlotte asked.

“I want him dead,” the Queen Mother said.

“As long as I live, he won’t die,” Charlotte replied.

“Is he worth it? For a mere fifth-realm cultivator, you want to fight me to the death?” the Queen Mother snarled.

“To the death… you think too highly of yourself,” Charlotte chuckled.

“A mere human, and one born in such a low-level universe, don’t you think you’re being overly arrogant?” the Queen Mother asked.

“And you? Guarding the fallen immortal kingdom civilization, yet not daring to challenge the guardians in the center of the universe, what does that make you?” Charlotte retorted.

    In an instant.

The two vanished from their original positions.

    Several breaths passed.

    Still, nothing happened.

As time flowed, the two top powerhouses remained unseen.

Shen Ye, squatting in the mirror world, watched for a while longer, and couldn’t help but frown.

    The hillside was a mess.

The magic cabin and the surrounding forest were flattened.

But all power fluctuations had subsided.

“…No, I must find a way to see how this battle is going.”

    Shen Ye muttered to himself.

With his strength, approaching a battlefield of this magnitude would likely result in death.

    So what to do?

A thought flashed through Shen Ye’s mind.

He quietly appeared from the void, lightly landing before the shattered mirror.

    At the same time –

Annie, the soul puppet far away in the imperial capital, suddenly stirred.

Annie looked up at the sky and immediately saw something Shen Ye couldn’t perceive.

“What astonishing power… They are fighting this battle in the universe.”

Annie soared into the sky, swiftly piercing through the atmosphere and entering the dark cosmos.

Following the fierce energy waves of their battle, she flew at full speed and finally saw a blurred afterimage.

Boundless, destructive power emanated from the afterimage.

The surrounding planets changed their orbits, slowly moving away from the vicinity of this afterimage.

Annie looked at the blurred, ever-changing afterimage, and understood in her heart.

These were two top powerhouses, fighting at full strength.

Because their speed was too fast, even Annie could only see an afterimage.

Annie was holding her breath, watching, when suddenly the afterimage dispersed, and the two separated.

    Finished fighting?

    No, not finished, but –

    “Dharma appearance descends.”

    The Queen Mother bellowed.

    — This was a full-out attack, to determine life and death!

Annie quickly turned her head to look at Charlotte.

She saw Charlotte about to form a spell sign, but her hands were struck apart by a long stinger.

    This is bad!

    Annie’s heart sank.

This slight delay was almost decisive.

The Queen Mother’s dharma appearance suddenly unfolded.

In this dark universe, a corpse of a woman appeared, as large as several planets merged into one.

The woman’s eyes were tightly closed, half of her flesh and blood had turned to bone, while the other half constantly writhed.

But a gigantic insect, equally colossal, gripped the woman tightly, embracing her, its proboscis like a long stinger, piercing into the back of the woman’s head.

Dharma Appearance: Sacred Corpse Insect Demon!

“Hee hee hee,” the Queen Mother laughed triumphantly, “you have no chance.”

Then, within the dharma appearance, the woman slowly opened her eyes.

The dark universe was instantly filled with an indescribable sense of ancientness, as if an immensely great will, from untold ages past, had awakened once again.

Charlotte’s pupils constricted, and she immediately adopted a defensive stance.

Annie, merely observing from afar, felt her body begin to decay and had to retreat even further.

    On the other side.

Shen Ye withdrew his consciousness from Annie and opened his eyes in the nightmare world.

“This is bad, I must find a way to help her –”

“But if even Annie can’t get close, what can I do?”

A wave of anxiety surged through Shen Ye’s heart.

Had her struggle with the Demon of Fear been too prolonged, causing her to expend too much power?

    So much effort.

Time and again, emerging from paths of suffering.

Was it all to be abandoned halfway?

    Would she die?

    No!

    Shen Ye suddenly remembered something.

    — Charlotte was originally supposed to evolve the “Lifeless Soul Lord” profession.

With her talent, after battling the Black King, she not only mastered the power to devour personalities but also pushed her profession to a higher level of evolution.

The Fourth Era Creator, Chaluchitorik, once said that the profession Charlotte was evolving, when reaching its higher tiers, would be “unique.”

    However—

Currently, there are two practitioners of the “Lifeless Soul Lord” profession.

Therefore, this profession is stuck, unable to advance further!

    Not only that.

He himself was the last jailer of the “Five Desires” prison.

Only when he died would the prison completely collapse, and Charlotte’s power would be completely unleashed!

    No time for hesitation.

    “Cosmic Shift.”

    Shen Ye whispered.

With this ability, he left a coordinate at his original position, and then—

The Vast Cold Bow subtly appeared, and an arrow shot into the sky, tracing a graceful arc, before landing back on Shen Ye’s shoulder.

    “Heavenly Dragon Express” activated!

“Ranged attacks will cause the target to teleport through space, directly sending them to a deep realm of death.”

“—Funeral Express Service, safe, fast, and efficient, everyone who’s used it says it’s good!”

    Whoosh!

Shen Ye appeared directly in purgatory.

Although he had entered the “death” world, and could be considered dead, this wasn’t enough!

    — That “Lifeless Lord” profession!

Only by losing this profession would the “Anima Lord” on Charlotte evolve into that unique new profession!

But how to lose this profession?

    “…Fusion.”

Yes, even if it meant messing things up, he had to get rid of this profession now!

Following Shen Ye’s will, lines of faint golden text quickly appeared:

“You have activated the power of the ‘Vampire Child’ (Golden Legend) affix, and are currently fusing the following professions:”

“‘Dark Devourer Lord’ and ‘Lifeless Lord’.”

    “Fusion failed.”

“Please note, the Golden-grade affix ‘Vampire Child’ can only fuse affixes, (similar category) items, (similar category) skills.”

    “Professions cannot be fused.”

    Tsk.

    This is truly troublesome!

    — hurry, think, is there any other way?

    Right, skills.

Skills of the same category can be fused.

What is tied to that profession?

    The Door!

The skill “I Exist in the Mirror” from the Lifeless Lord brought forth the White Door, which then evolved into the Hanged Man’s Door.

If he fused it with his original door—

Wouldn’t that mean his door ability would undergo a super-evolution, while the door generated by “I Exist in the Mirror” would disappear!

    Would this backward deduction work?

    Doesn’t matter, try it!

Following Shen Ye’s will, faint golden text reappeared in the void:

“You have activated the power of the ‘Vampire Child’ (Golden Legend) affix, and are currently fusing similar category innate skills:”

“‘Two-World Link Door’ and ‘Hanged Man’s Door’.”

    “Congratulations!”

“This fusion has produced a super-evolutionary effect.”

“Furthermore, because you have lost your original ‘Hanged Man’s Door’, your skill ‘I Exist in the Mirror’ has been dismantled.”

“You have lost the skill ‘I Exist in the Mirror’.”

“You have lost the profession ‘Lifeless Lord’.”

“Your current Door innate skill has evolved into—”

Shen Ye had no time to look, instead directing his spiritual power once more towards the Annie puppet floating in the universe.

    Wait.

Why couldn’t he project his spiritual power?

    Oh…

He was in purgatory, separated by several layers of worlds.

Shen Ye broke out in a cold sweat.

    Meanwhile.

    In the universe.

Charlotte crashed through a planet, and then was continuously struck by invisible forces, unable to even fight back.

“Heh heh heh, so arrogant just now, turns out your skill is only at this level!”

The Queen Mother couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

    At one instant.

    Charlotte suddenly sensed something.

    She spoke:

“Wait for me for a bit.”

“Wait for you? You think too highly of yourself.” The Queen Mother unleashed another spell.

    However, Charlotte suddenly disappeared.

    — She just vanished casually before the Queen Mother’s eyes.

    In purgatory.

Shen Ye, riding a four-clawed, hard-shelled, short-tailed skeletal beast, roared:

    “Go faster!”

“I’m already fast enough!” the four-clawed, hard-shelled, short-tailed skeletal beast yelled.

“But it’s not enough! If you slack off again, we’ll all be doomed!” Shen Ye shouted, glancing back.

Behind them, a large group of purgatory demons, whose bodies burned with purgatorial fire, were in hot pursuit.

    — Should I kill a few?

They wouldn’t go berserk, would they?

    Shen Ye hesitated.

“Ahead! Shen Ye! Look ahead!” The Big Skeleton’s voice came from underfoot.

    More monsters?

Shen Ye immediately turned to look ahead.

A person stood on a large black rock in front.

A beautiful woman in a red dress.

    Charlotte.

“You— No way, you died too?” Shen Ye gasped.

Charlotte sighed helplessly, casting a glance at the demons behind Shen Ye.

    In an instant.

All the demons vanished without a trace.

    Immediately after.

An invisible force emanated from Charlotte.

    One breath.

    Two breaths.

The entire purgatory seemed to quiet down.

“Hello, can you please step aside for a moment? I need to talk to him.” Charlotte said apologetically to the king.

    “Ah, good!”

The four-clawed, hard-shelled, short-tailed skeletal beast nodded repeatedly, jumped up with a series of “clack-clacks,” transformed into its skeletal form, and returned to the dharma appearance.

    Only Shen Ye remained.

    — And Charlotte.

Charlotte jumped off the rock and walked towards Shen Ye, one step at a time, saying:

“I sensed a long time ago that someone else had taken up the ‘Lifeless Soul Lord’ profession.”

“After continuous investigation, I knew it was you.”

    She carefully scrutinized Shen Ye.

“What is your purpose? Approaching me, what were you trying to gain? Were you trying to kill me, or did you desire something else?”

“—You need to know, I had to consider these things.”

Shen Ye nodded, “It is indeed worth considering.”

“But you did well, I think you can be my subordinate,” Charlotte said.

“Of course I did well,” Shen Ye affirmed.

“And then… you got caught up in my personality battle, and surprisingly, you actually managed to catch me.”

Charlotte walked up to the young man, looking up at him, and continued:

“My life originally had no way out, but you changed the path I took to get here, making all my true memories beautiful.”

    “This is good.”

“So, there’s only one last question—”

“What exactly are you trying to gain from me by taking on the ‘Lifeless Lord’ profession and getting close to me?”

    Charlotte gazed into his eyes.

The young man opened his mouth, “I only sought power to survive back then.”

“At any other time, I wouldn’t believe such words, because this profession is very important, and across multiple higher universes, countless beings covet this profession,” Charlotte said.

    “So what?” Shen Ye asked.

“So I deliberately took a beating just now, wanting to see what you would do.”

“—When you unhesitatingly gave up this profession, the last shred of doubt in my heart vanished.”

    Charlotte flashed a gentle smile.

She extended a hand, gently caressing Shen Ye’s face, then tiptoed, tilting her head slightly so her lips could meet his.

    Awkward and innocent.

    “It’s Nancy.”

    She said.

    Separated, then reunited.

    Gentle and cooperative.

    “It’s Pe’a Suo.”

She said, kissing him once more.

    Shy yet brave.

    “It’s Annie.”

She pulled back slightly, then leaned in again.

    Soft and cool.

Confused thoughts and the world fell silent together.

He felt as if he had shed his shell from all suffering, passed through the vast night sky, and in the universe, existed quietly and eternally with billions of stars.

This time there was no need to say.

    It was Charlotte.

In purgatory, a scorching wind blew from afar, blowing for a long time, but failing to disperse the figures.

She gazed at him, softly saying:

    “I have to go now.”

    “Go where?” he asked.

“Kill that bug, arrange this period of history for you, and then I’ll go to a distant place.”

    “Distant place…” Shen Ye repeated.

“Indeed, this layer of the universe is called the ‘Unfixed Layer,’ the lowest stratum of the multiverse. Every thirty thousand years, a great tribulation erupts, completely destroying it once.”

“There are two noteworthy places in this layer.”

“One is the Death Planet. It is a speck of dust that fell from an extremely high-dimensional upper universe, but within that dust hides the secrets of an ultimate upper-universe immortal kingdom.”

“This planet is controlled by bugs; they research the immortal kingdom while using it as bait for predation.”

    “—I will crush those bugs.”

“The other notable thing is the Black King.”

“It is a master sent down from the upper universe to assist in clearing everything during the great tribulation, but it will also select some worthy individuals to absorb and send to the upper universe.”

“Remember these two points. As for these historical events, I will arrange them.”

    “Now I must go.”

“My energy fluctuations will soon exceed the limit of this ‘Unfixed Layer’ universe. People from higher-dimensional universes will come to collect me—this is an undeniable fact, even I cannot resist.”

“Once you are discovered with me, it will ironically be to your detriment.”

“So I must leave ahead of time.”

Charlotte wrapped her hands around his neck, looked up, and gently kissed him on the cheek.

    Reluctance.

    He felt their deep affection.

    “Baxter.”

    “What?”

“Become stronger, come find me in the higher universes—you always manage to do what I ask, don’t you?”

“That sounds really difficult, I don’t know if I can do it.” The young man couldn’t help but sigh.

With her calling him “Baxter,” a certain trait seemed to start evolving again.

But the young man had no time to look.

“Then you only have one path left,” Charlotte said with a teasing tone.

    “What?”

“Once I’ve established myself in the higher universes, I’ll bring you up—from now on, I’ll support you.”

Charlotte smiled at him, dazzling and beautiful like the stars.

    The wind blew again.

The fires of purgatory shot straight into the sky, slowly floating above the clouds, reflecting a vibrant world.

    She was gone.
