Chapter Index

“I hope it’s not too late.”

Having said that, the entire light and shadow image began to dissipate.

    —But it’s not enough!

He needed to know more information!

Shen Ye’s eyes fixed on the Wind Chapter Seal, and he once again released “Moonlit Divine Illumination”.

“Your mental power has consumed 9 points!”

“Current remaining mental power: 3 points;”

“—Continuous use of your clairvoyance has put you in a state of fatigue.”

The image in mid-air gathered again.

But this time it wasn’t inside the carriage.

The Wind Chapter Seal lay quietly in the depths of the stream, picked up by a hand.

    It was General Tazewell.

He held the seal and looked at it for a while, then sighed and said to himself:

“Do you think wearing this kind of seal means you can escape? I almost didn’t make it myself.”

Around him, there was nothing but flat and vast land.

    Boundless.

No living creatures were in sight.

    The scene quickly ended.

Shen Ye gasped, a look of exhaustion on his face.

Continuously observing the past light and shadow of the seal had consumed 16 points of mental power, leaving him quite tired.

But the whole incident made him even more curious.

General Tazewell’s tone carried a sense of despair.

What kind of fallen angel was he, and what was he doing?

And why was the Wind Chapter Seal in the stream before it fell into General Tazewell’s hands?

No, he had to find out.

Even if he couldn’t get any high-level attributes tonight, he had to know the truth!

Shen Ye drew out 10 free attribute points and invested them in mental power.

    “Current mental power: 13 points.”

    “Your condition has recovered.”

    Continue!

He fixed his gaze on the Wind Chapter Seal and activated Moonlit Divine Illumination.

Layers of light and shadow once again appeared before his eyes.

    Shen Ye frowned.

This time, the image was constantly shaking.

    Someone shouted loudly: “Quick! Faster!”

A female voice shrieked: “It’s too late, we can’t escape, everyone is doomed!”

“There’s a stream ahead, jump in.”

Shen Ye saw a male dark elf leap high—

    Swish.

    He disappeared in an instant.

No splash was heard from the stream.

    —Where did he go?

    Then came a painful wail.

The female dark elf wearing the Wind Chapter Seal shrieked again and plunged into the water.

She swam towards the depths of the water.

While swimming, she gritted her teeth, pulled out a dagger with force, and fiercely plunged it into her heart.

    Blood permeated.

The corpse gradually sank to the bottom of the water.

All the light and shadow dissipated.

    “Water…”

Shen Ye mumbled, rubbing his eyes.

After using his clairvoyance three times in a row, his eyes were sore and swollen, very uncomfortable.

    But there were also gains.

    Firstly, the female dark elf would rather die than be caught by something;

    wωw⊙ Tтka n⊙ ℃o

One must know that this was hell.

If one died here, their soul would go to purgatory.

The horror of purgatory was something the Great Skeleton was reluctant to discuss even a little.

Secondly, there was a place with water.

“What happens with water? Do you get a chance?”

    Shen Ye muttered to himself.

“What, do you want some water? I remember you brought some drinks.” The Great Skeleton said.

“No, I mean, we can’t see anything on the ground, we need to find streams and lakes – are there such places in hell?” Shen Ye asked.

“Yes, after those aquatic creatures die, they’ll still come to hell, so you can definitely find places with water.”

    “Let’s go! Let’s find some!”

The ghost fire motorcycle started again.

    About an hour later.

The ghost fire motorcycle stopped in front of a mirror-smooth lake.

The lake water was crystal clear to the bottom.

One glance showed that there was nothing at the bottom.

“Be careful, even though it looks clear, there might be some monsters hidden.”

    The Great Skeleton warned.

“You’re right, we must be on guard.”

Shen Ye squatted down, placed his hand in the water, and exerted force.

A lightning hand detached from his hand and slowly submerged into the depths of the water.

Arcs of lightning and electric snakes spread from the hand.

    The water trembled almost imperceptibly.

“What are you doing?” the Great Skeleton asked in surprise.

“Fishing with electricity – if there’s anything alive, it’ll pop out now,” Shen Ye said.

Both of them held their breath and stared at the lake water.

    No movement.

“Alright, are you going in the water?” the Great Skeleton asked.

    Splash!

Shen Ye had already jumped in.

The lake water was bone-chillingly cold.

He followed the current and dived all the way to the bottom of the lake.

The bottom of the lake was clean, with nothing there.

—If there were any items, his “Door” ability would show a faint glow.

    But there was absolutely nothing.

Shen Ye looked around and reluctantly prepared to leave.

But he had traveled for so long and finally found a lake.

—General Tazewell found the Wind Chapter Seal in the water!

This proved that things in the water were still different from those on land.

Should he just give up like this?

Shen Ye was still a bit unwilling, so he loudly blew out bubbles:

    “Is!”

    “Anyone!”

    “Here!”

Several bubbles flew out of his mouth, quickly rising.

    Intermediate-level “Dark Whisper” was cast!

But the surroundings were utterly silent.

After waiting a few more breaths.

Shen Ye shook his head, just about to leave, when he suddenly saw a few bubbles rising from not far away.

    —Someone!

    And they were dead!

Shen Ye’s spirits lifted, and he immediately swam in that direction.

    It was a sunken hollow.

A lot of white debris had accumulated at the bottom, slowly swaying with the water.

    “Who blew the bubbles?”

    Shen Ye asked again.

    Gurgle gurgle—

Several bubbles emerged from the mud and rose.

    Mud!

Shen Ye pushed aside the mud and found a crocodile head buried within.

    —Only a head remained!

The floating grayish debris at the bottom of the water might have been its original body.

Without a word, Shen Ye grabbed the crocodile head, tucked it into his ring, and swam towards the surface.

    A few minutes later.

    By the water.

The crocodile head was placed on the ground.

“Hello, old friend,” Shen Ye said.

“Hello to you too, please let me stay a little longer, purgatory is too terrifying, I don’t want to go back so soon.” The crocodile head spoke.

“How did you die?” Shen Ye asked.

“The situation was too critical, so I just finished myself off.” The crocodile head replied.

“What was the situation?” Shen Ye asked.

“A critical situation, everyone was doomed, so I had to kill myself.” The crocodile head replied.

    Shen Ye: “…”

“This crocodile is a bit strange, why is it repeating itself?” The Great Skeleton asked quietly.

“That’s called ‘padding’ – to prolong its stay in hell, it’s talking nonsense to us,” Shen Ye said.

“That’s simple, leave it to me,” the Great Skeleton said.

It emerged from the ring, placed its hand on the crocodile head, and whispered a spell.

The crocodile immediately reacted, paused, and then shrieked wildly:

    “Ahhhhhh—”

“Oh, noble king of the undead, please resurrect me!”

The Great Skeleton looked at it and said in a deep voice, “Answer our questions truthfully, otherwise don’t expect anything good.”

“Yes, your excellency!” the crocodile head said respectfully.

    Shen Ye suddenly understood.

Among the three divine skills of the undead race, he chose Dark Whisper, and the Great Skeleton chose Undead Resurrection.

If Undead Resurrection were cast in Hell—

“If I resurrect it, its soul will return from purgatory to hell, and then I’ll have to resurrect it in the human world for it to truly come back to life in the human world,” the Great Skeleton explained.

“Understood, a stepped resurrection,” Shen Ye said.

“Two esteemed sirs, as a crocodile-man, I actually possess a unique talent. I can see through the clouds in the sky, obstacles on the ground, and hidden killing intent.”

The crocodile head began to speak volubly:

“Yesterday evening I was preparing for bed, but a strong sense of unease prompted me to float to the surface and glance at the sky.”

“At that moment, I knew something was wrong.”

Shen Ye recalled the male dark elf’s death and couldn’t help but ask:

    “What did you see?”

    “I saw the sky change.”

“Try to pad for time again and you’ll die,” the Great Skeleton said angrily.

“Excuse me, two esteemed sirs, I saw the sky change—the entire sky was boundless, filled with human heads.”

“Perhaps saying ‘human heads’ might cause misunderstanding for the two sirs. To be precise, they were actually the heads of all sentient beings of all races, humans, orcs, dragons, spiders, fish, elves, and even treants—”

“Those heads were densely packed, filling the sky behind the clouds, with no end in sight.”

“Their faces showed an identical expression—”

    “Hunger.”

“Yes, my eyes couldn’t be mistaken, I knew it was the look of predation.”

The crocodile head gasped and said:

“Apologies, please allow me a moment to compose myself.”

Shen Ye and the Great Skeleton exchanged glances, and couldn’t help but feel a chill run down their spines.

    Imagine—

The sky was crammed with human heads, densely packed and writhing, each one wanting to devour everything on the ground—

    “Was Hell like this before?”

    Shen Ye asked.

“No,” the Great Skeleton shook its head, “According to the ancient records of our undead clan, Hell is divided into many layers, where various tortures cleanse sins and allow souls to return to purity.”

“Even with various tortures, souls should not devour each other.”

“Yes, I know that too,” the crocodile head chimed in, “but those heads really wanted to eat everything on the ground, and that’s what they did.”

    “I saw Lord Isaac’s carriage.”

“The carriage sped across the lake at an unimaginable speed, fleeing further away.”

    “But it was too late.”

“Heads swarmed down from the sky, devouring everything.”

“Each head was connected to a long tube, I don’t know what it was, but they didn’t spare the carriage.”

“Lord Isaac was powerful and invincible, but he couldn’t resist for even a few seconds.”

“He, his entourage, and the carriage were completely devoured by countless heads.”

“I could tell that this kind of devouring was the one that thoroughly consumed both soul and body; once eaten, nothing would remain.”

“Those heads wriggled on the ground, plowing the entire land, and everything edible was devoured.”

“The same was true in the water.”

“At that time, I thought—rather than having my soul eaten like this, it’d be better to suffer in purgatory, at least there’s that faint, ethereal hope.”

“So while the other aquatic creatures were panicking, I had already cast a spell and killed myself.”

    “This is the whole truth.”

Shen Ye looked at the Great Skeleton.

The Great Skeleton shook its head, “Don’t look at me, I’ve read all the ancient historical books of the undead race, but I’ve never heard of anything like this.”
