Chapter Index

“What is this? Your innate ability?”

    Captain Wang asked in surprise.

    Shen Ye did not answer.

The damned password was too long, and the pen wasn’t easy to use. Writing too fast also wouldn’t work.

    It was infuriating!

    Suddenly—

There was a loud bang on the iron door.

Captain Wang was attacking the iron door!

    Thump!

He kicked the door with all his might, and the door flew off, heading towards Shen Ye.

    “Disperse!”

Shen Ye’s hands didn’t stop, and he silently chanted in his heart.

    The door instantly disappeared.

    “I’ll kill you—”

Captain Wang roared and charged forward.

    “Door!” Shen Ye chanted again.

With a clang, Captain Wang, who was charging too fast, was caught off guard and slammed his head into the iron door, getting a large lump on his skull.

This teasing finally made him lose his temper.

“You think this can stop me? Ridiculous…”

Killing intent surged within him. He twisted his body, broke through the wall, bypassed the iron door, and charged towards Shen Ye.

At this moment, Shen Ye put down his pen.

    —The password was finally written.

Three lines of glowing small characters appeared on the wall:

    “Password verified.”

“Kunlun has arrived and is now reviewing emergency handling conditions.”

    “Scanning the police station completely.”

Immediately after, a polite and deep male voice sounded from the silver wall:

“Luo Feichuan’s corpse has been found, and Luo Feichuan’s brainwave cessation has been successfully verified.”

“The false identity of Captain Wang Xuemu of the Serious Crimes Unit has been successfully verified.”

“The nearest high-ranking professional is being dispatched.”

“Qian Rushan, regional manager of the Human Martial Arts Group, has been summoned.”

“Given the severity of the current situation, an immediate kill has been decided.”

“After a 30-second countdown, the killer impersonating Wang Xuemu will be executed on the spot.”

    “Countdown starts!”

    “30!”

The wall was broken, and Captain Wang charged in with a dagger.

But in the previous second, Shen Ye had already placed his hand on the iron door of the weapons storage room and whispered, “Door.”

Another iron door appeared in front of the iron door.

He flashed inside and disappeared directly.

—He was no match for the opponent at all. He shouldn’t even think about fighting, but rather how to escape immediately!

Shen Ye thought so and acted accordingly.

It was his unhesitating attitude of avoidance that allowed him to narrowly evade the opponent’s attack.

Captain Wang charged to the silver wall.

Shen Ye had just entered the door.

The two once again missed each other.

However, at this moment, Captain Wang no longer pursued.

He ignored killing Shen Ye, turned sideways to hide in the corridor, only exposing one eye, and looked out the window.

“Is Kunlun deploying troops? Want to kill me? Dream on!” he sneered.

On the silver wall, the male voice, deep and beautiful, continued his words:

    “Mongrel, I lied to you.”

    “3,”

    “2,”

    “1.”

A phantom appeared on the street outside with incredible speed, rushing in with a whistling sound.

Captain Wang’s expression changed, and he gripped the black dagger in his hand.

    A sudden change occurred!

    Buzz—

The explosive and resounding roar of the blade suddenly rose like an air raid siren, shattering all the glass in an instant.

    People instinctively covered their ears.

The phantom arrived extremely fast, flashing through the wall.

    Qian Rushan!

This scruffy, decadent middle-aged man actually broke through the wall and suddenly appeared in the corridor behind Captain Wang.

He lowered his head, slowly sheathed a straight-backed long saber, and recited softly:

“All martial arts in the world, nothing is impregnable, only speed is supreme!”

    Behind him.

    Blood soared into the sky.

Captain Wang was cut in half at the waist, his legs kneeling on the ground, trembling as if he was about to make a dodging movement.

But the opponent’s blade was too fast, he reacted too late!

At the last moment, Captain Wang’s face was full of ferocity. He threw away the dagger and quickly brought his hands together, about to perform something.

    Unfortunately—

His upper body also split neatly into two halves down the middle, separating again.

So the distance between his hands grew further and further apart, finally unable to come together, and even more unable to perform any spell.

    He died.

The door to the weapons storage room opened.

Shen Ye flashed out, closed the door, and with a grateful expression said, “Thank you, Manager Qian, for your help.”

    A few minutes later.

Qian Rushan sat in the police station lobby, smoking and jiggling his leg.

“Was I cool just now?” he asked.

“Cool,” Shen Ye said in support.

“Hmm, kid Shen, you really have good judgment. I can handle other matters for you, but regarding that password, you must tell me the truth,” Qian Rushan instructed.

Shen Ye shrugged, “The password was given by Luo Feichuan. He felt unsafe, so he gave it to me in advance, saying that if anything happened, I should use it immediately.”

“Is that so? He felt that something might happen to him, so he gave you a password?”

“Yes,” Shen Ye said calmly, “He accidentally provoked the Silent Church. And the people chasing me also seemed to be after him.”

“He told me that if he died, I should immediately write the password on the silver wall on the third floor of the police station.”

“That way, it would save my life.”

Qian Rushan said, “But how did you know he was dead?”

“I have a talent; where there’s a corpse, I’ll sense it,” Shen Ye said.

“So as soon as you entered the office, you knew there was a corpse in that cabinet?” Qian Rushan was a little interested.

    “Yes,” Shen Ye said.

“Being able to sense corpses… is also a kind of talent, not bad, not bad,” Qian Rushan said.

“Do I need to prove it?” Shen Ye asked.

“No need. I’ll find you when I need your help in the future,” Qian Rushan said.

Seeing Shen Ye’s expression of “Is that all it takes to pass?”, he couldn’t help but smile:

“Talent is something hard to explain. I know a doctor, and whenever he’s on night duty, several major emergency resuscitations are bound to happen in the ward that night.”

“Are you sure he didn’t do it?” Shen Ye couldn’t help but ask.

Qian Rushan was quite chatty and replied, “They specifically checked, it’s very spooky. Anyway, he’s just that kind of jinx.”

“I also know an intelligence officer; whenever he goes on a mission, a woman is bound to fall in love with him, and they’ll spend a few passionate days together and she’ll get pregnant, only breaking up for the next mission. He has the same treatment as a movie protagonist.”

    “—So yours is nothing.”

Shen Ye silently lowered his head.

Compared to that, his indeed was nothing.

    Bloody world.

He’d rather go back to Blue Star, eat popcorn, and watch various superheroes on screen, seeing how they save the world and maintain peace; rather than live in such a seemingly awesome but incredibly terrifying world.

    Beep beep beep—

    Qian Rushan’s phone rang.

“Kunlun has found out,” he glanced at it and shook his head, “The people who tried to kill you are from the Assassin Alliance. They only take missions online, and the assassins don’t know who wants to kill you.”

    “Kunlun?” Shen Ye repeated.

“It’s the thing that sent me to kill, it’s the world government’s central intelligent system. It usually doesn’t bother with such trivial matters, unless you have the password assigned by it, then it will act for you,” Qian Rushan said.

“Officer Luo’s death is a pity,” Shen Ye sighed.

“It is a pity—he graduated with excellent grades, interned for two years, and everything he did before was well done,” Qian Rushan said.

“But why didn’t he call for backup? He could have contacted Kunlun in advance and asked Kunlun to handle the problem,” Shen Ye said.

    Beep beep beep—

    Qian Rushan’s phone rang again.

He glanced at it, and his expression suddenly became serious.

    “Shen Ye, come with me.”

    “Ah, okay.”

The two went upstairs, one after another, and returned to the chief’s office.

Several people in white coats were examining Luo Feichuan’s corpse. Beside them stood two men in black, who had opened a hidden compartment in the wall and were waiting there for Qian Rushan.

    “Manager Qian.”

    “Hmm, what’s the situation?”

    “Look at this weapon.”

Qian Rushan and Shen Ye looked into the hidden compartment, only to see a small, metal hand lying inside.

Upon closer inspection, a line of small characters could be seen along the edge of the metal hand:

“Beyond the soul, all can be a body.”

Shen Ye looked at this line of text and immediately remembered another giant entity in this world.

    The Hunter Gear Research Institute.

From mechs and prosthetics to firearms and ammunition, the Hunter Gear Research Institute was always at the forefront.

    The man in black said:

“This is Luo Feichuan’s steel prosthetic body. Its internal program has been infected with a virus, so it cannot be activated.”

    “Completely broken?” Qian Rushan asked.

“No,” the other man in black gently patted the hand.

The steel hand immediately expanded dramatically, pushing up countless vertical steel scales, and deep red flames erupted from within.

The temperature in the room rose by a few degrees.

“As soon as Luo Feichuan died, it was fine again,” the man in black said.

“So it was deliberately sabotaged, right?” Qian Rushan asked.

“Exactly, and it must have been someone very familiar with him—Kunlun has already given us the task, and we will continue to investigate,” the man in black said.

    Qian Rushan sighed.

Shen Ye was also thinking about Luo Feichuan.

No wonder he told him then that his “weapon was malfunctioning.”

This powerful and excellent police chief had specially left his business card at home, diligently pursued the investigation afterward, and even guided him after his death.

—Such a person, however, died without even being able to use his weapon when encountering an enemy.

    It was truly a pity.

    Qian Rushan suddenly said:

“Shen Ye, you are also one of us now. Today, I’ll give you your first lesson. I hope you remember it.”

    “Please speak,” Shen Ye said.

“Always be wary of those with malicious intentions, they are more terrifying than monsters.”

“Thank you, I will remember that.”
