Chapter 35 Double Happiness
by MachineSamurai9124My first trip to the mountains for fieldwork coincided with a funeral.
This time, while experiencing a truly unusual event in my residential community, I also encountered a joyous occasion.
But red, which is supposed to be a color for celebration, is actually more eerie than a funeral scene.
The class monitor, now wearing embroidered shoes, walked into the hall closely with Luo Di.
An old-fashioned eight-immortal table was placed in the center of the room, with several carved wooden chairs scattered around it. Four ornately dressed paper figures wearing white wigs sat on the table, with flowers adorning their chests.
These paper figures look strange, or rather, their bodies are stretched taut, as if filled with some kind of living thing.
The paper figures’ eyes were all fixed on an old-fashioned television set that was covered in static and constantly emitting noise.
The two bypassed the living room and the paper figures there, and went to the balcony area first, wanting to see if they could jump directly down from the window.
However, all the windows on the balcony were blocked off with messy wooden boards, and some “double happiness” stickers were lying on these boards.
“Let me pry it open and take a look…”
Luo Di used the kitchen knife in his hand to pry open the wooden board. After spending a lot of effort to remove the board, he not only couldn’t see outside the window, but the scene in front of him added to the atmosphere of despair.
Beneath the wooden planks, outside the windows, there was no night view, only a carpet of red bricks.
As the textbook states, there are no gaps in Corner-like spaces where one can escape.
As the two turned around to continue investigating the situation inside the house, the paper figures that had been watching TV suddenly all turned to look at them on the balcony.
” Luo Di, should we get rid of these paper figures beforehand?”
“Is it possible that they want us to get rid of the paper figures? Or that there might be some kind of trap inside these paper figures?”
The two had just finished their discussion,
One of the paper figures had a small hole pried open around its eye.
A hairy spider crawled out from inside. Looking through the crack the spider had created, one would discover that the paper figure’s body was crammed with all sorts of spiders.
Once damaged, swarms of spiders will emerge, causing considerable trouble.
Looking at the swarm of spiders, Luo Di instinctively tightened his sleeves. “Let’s go check the kitchen first. If there’s a fire, we can try burning them.”
When the two searched for the kitchen according to the layout of his house, they found that there was no kitchen area at all in the house, and the layout of the house seemed to have been completely changed.
The most significant change is in the direction leading to the bedroom.
A typical apartment in this type of resettlement community is only a little over 100 square meters, with the living room and bedroom separated by just one wall.
Here, however, there is an extra long channel, estimated to be more than ten meters long. This length of indoor channel already exceeds the length of the building itself.
A red lantern hangs every two meters along this channel, providing ample lighting.
Furthermore, there is no bedroom door at the end of the channel, but instead a staircase leading to the side, which seems to lead to the second floor.
This is just as the textbook says, the space has been extended.
Based on current observations, the first floor consists only of the living room and this long channel.
“Let’s go, let’s explore deeper into the area.”
“Wait a minute~”
The squad leader jogged back to the balcony, picked up the wooden plank that had just been dismantled, and held it in his hand. Several nails were still embedded in the end of the plank, making it barely usable as a weapon.
When the two of them stood at the entrance of the channel, which was adorned with red lanterns,
The paper figures all turned their heads, as if to say goodbye, or perhaps… hoping that they would quickly bring the bride and groom over to complete today’s happy occasion.
Just as their gazes were drawn to the paper figure, a woman dressed in red and wearing a veil walked up the stairs at the end of the channel.
The squad leader was extremely fast; he immediately pulled out the nails from the wooden board and threw it forward.
The nail landed steadily at the end of the channel, ten meters away, almost hitting the woman going upstairs.
Luo Di was surprised by the class monitor’s reaction and throwing ability. He had thought the class monitor was only proficient in swordsmanship, but he did not expect him to have such skills.
Perhaps sensing Luo Di’s gaze, the squad leader explained, “Piece throwing is also one of my remedial lessons. Often, using the environment to fight is more effective than the weapons in hand, but unfortunately, my reaction time is still too slow.”
Judging from her height, the woman we just saw was probably the Pseudo-human in her true form. Let’s go.
“Um.”
Red lanterns hang high.
The two people walking through the channels did not encounter any danger or environmental traps.
However, the two still proceeded back-to-back while observing the situation in front and behind them.
There are also some paintings hanging in the channel, depicting two young people spending their days together, but the faces of both the woman and the man are blurred.
At the far end hung photos of couples dressed for a traditional Chinese wedding.
Although the woman in the photo has her head covered with a red cloth, a bright red smile can be seen… but this smile always feels more like that of a young woman than that of a Pseudo-human.
Upon reaching the end of the channel, the staircase leading to the second floor is located on the side.
The stairwell is no longer lit by lanterns, but by red candles burning on both sides, many of which have already burned out and the brightness is below the safe level.
The electric light in the squad leader’s hand also came in handy here.
Without pausing, the two climbed the stairs to the second floor, which shouldn’t exist.
There are fewer candles here, and the light is dimmer, but the interior design still follows the corner law, with curved edges as the main feature.
There are three rooms in total: a master bedroom, a second bedroom, and a bathroom.
The door to the master bedroom at the deepest part of the room was tightly closed, with a few drops of red light seeping out from the bottom crack. The bride in red we saw earlier was very likely inside, or rather, the Pseudo-human himself was waiting inside.
In addition, the sound of dripping water could be heard constantly coming from the bathroom next to them.
Before heading to the master bedroom, it’s essential to thoroughly familiarize yourself with the surroundings.
The two exchanged a glance and went to the unlocked bathroom, which was completely dark inside, without even a candle or lantern.
This extreme darkness would put immense psychological pressure on the two who had grown up in the light.
The squad leader quickly raised the light bulb in front of him to dispel the darkness, and the structure of the entire bedroom was outlined by the light.
As far as the eye can see, there is still no structure that can generate a 【 physical corner 】.
The bathroom floor was covered in blood, and some hair residue could even be seen near the drain.
The innermost bathtub was hidden by a curtain.
The continuous dripping sound was coming from inside the bathtub.
The squad leader moved the light source in his hand, and when the light shone on the curtain of the bathtub, the outline of the shadows inside was clearly visible. It seemed that two people were sitting opposite each other at opposite ends of the bathtub, enjoying their bath time.
Just as Luo Di was considering how to deal with it, a plank with nails flew straight over.
Clang~
The silence was broken.
The smashed curtains lay scattered on the ground, revealing the hidden scene behind them.
A cold bathtub filled with water,
Two heads floated, one in front of the other.
The faucet was loose and kept dripping water.
These two heads were the same girl’s heads that had previously served as the spider’s tail. They floated on the water’s surface, their black hair framing their smiling faces towards the two people at the door.
Just as Luo Di was about to draw his knife and step forward to dispose of the two potentially dangerous heads,
Creak~
The door to the master bedroom on the second floor opened…
In that instant of attention, the head floating on the bathtub disappeared without a trace.
At this moment,
Even though both of them had undergone fear training, the most primal emotion, called fear, arose in their brains to varying degrees.
But Luo Di quickly suppressed his emotions. In his view, Murderer was incapable of feeling fear, and such feelings would be the greatest shame for him as a film enthusiast.
