The Cornflower Witch Chapter 275
byProtecting Princess Masha behind her, Sylphidya discarded the burned cypress spiral lance, and a meticulously crafted two-handed sword appeared in her hand.
Originally, she had prepared four gifts for her former friends: a long-handled great axe for Lei, a two-handed sword for Mike, a dagger for Komia, and a longbow for Karen.
Now, only one had been given, and the other three remained in her hand, but they were perfectly suited for use in this situation.
Wielding the great sword, Sylphidya stepped forward, her eyes gleaming as she locked onto her opponent’s movements, dodging the beams of light shooting from Jabez’s eyes.
Although Jabez’s current Tier roughly corresponded to ‘Tier 4 Alien World,’ the brutally accumulated power was wielded in an extremely crude manner, wasting an unknown amount of strength. This was akin to a skilled artisan using luxurious silk to create exquisite garments, while in the hands of an ignorant savage, the silk would only be used to start a fire for cooking.
The three laws of balance were present, with only strength but no knowledge, skill, practice, or trials. A ‘Tier 4 Alien World’ in such a state was nothing more than a cripple.
Facing Jabez’s crude and singular attack style, Sylphidya fully understood it after a few dodges. Holding the white two-handed great sword, she moved with light steps, evading the rays of light beside her. The terrifying pressure of his Tier had no effect on her.
After easily dodging another attack, Sylphidya was already close to her opponent. She turned and spun, the great sword swinging with her waist, forcefully chopping down, severing one of Jabez’s arms. Bluish-purple, eerie blood flowed out, mixed with shimmering stardust.
After being injured, Jabez’s face twisted, and he roared in pain, becoming even more enraged. He continuously increased the intensity of his attacks, with several rays almost hitting Princess Masha in the distance. Facing such a Jabez, the princess tried to awaken his reason, but all was in vain.
‘Alien World’ was an especially unique Aspect, representing power not belonging to this world. Ordinary people simply couldn’t access anything related to the ‘Alien World’ and had no way of understanding it. Forcing an understanding could lead to mental corruption and derangement.
Prince Jabez, without any secret knowledge or adaptive training related to the ‘Alien World,’ had suddenly been infused with a large amount of ‘Alien World’ power. In such a situation, his consciousness was already chaotic and lost. Now, he was merely acting on some low-level instinct, instinctively attacking anyone who might pose a threat to him.
Prince Jabez’s attacks became more and more frantic, but Sylphidya handled them with increasing ease. She could even see the flow of energy within his body and the details of the entire process of his ray abilities activating. This meant that while Prince Jabez was still locking on and charging, the young girl had already noticed and could avoid the target position with a slight movement.
After several attacks, Jabez’s aura weakened. Sylphidya stepped forward, gripping her great sword, and the mark of an oath flashed in her bright eyes.
Sword of Aimos
A sacred sword that swore to drive away Twilight Beasts, also effective against ‘Alien World’ life, the origin of twisted monsters.
Holy light bloomed from the blade, with threads of light flowing, spreading and blossoming like flowers, covering the entire blade.
Carrying this holy sword with its floral pattern, Sylphidya thrust forward with all her might, piercing through the invisible field barrier in front of Jabez, and impaling his chest, bringing forth a gush of bluish-purple blood.
Then the blade was pulled out, bringing with it another gush of blood. Jabez’s entire strength poured out of the wound, his body became shaky, and he slowly knelt to the ground.
At this point, he stopped attacking. The retreat of the ‘Alien World’ Aspect caused his grotesque appearance to gradually recede, returning him somewhat to his former self.
Seeing this, Princess Masha rushed over, her steps faltering, and she painstakingly embraced Jabez’s head with both hands.
The bluish-purple heterochromatic light in his eyes faded, and Jabez finally regained some clarity, though his time was short. Sylphidya’s sword strike had not only pierced his body but also his fate disc, causing the ‘Alien World’ power to leak and dissipate.
Everything before him was blurred and hazy. Jabez could no longer see clearly, only hearing Princess Masha’s cries beside him.
His chest heaved, and he coughed again, bringing up some bloody foam.
Hearing his sister’s cries, his twisted face finally softened a little.
“I’m… I’m sorry, sister.”
“I’ve always been inferior to my brothers, always messed things up.”
“I couldn’t bring you back to White Cliff City, to be the most beautiful princess.” His eyes were hollow, looking up at the blurred night sky. “Do you remember when we were little? Sister Matilda was still at home then, and I broke something, the Blood Crystal Flower that Brother Leon brought back for you from the far shore.”
“I was so afraid of being scolded by Father King and of you disliking me, so I said Iona broke it.”
“Iona was also very beautiful, and many in the palace at that time said she was even better than you, sister. I was indignant then, so I framed her.”
“She was very proud and absolutely refused to admit she did it. Because of this, Sister Matilda even reprimanded her, which eventually led to her leaving the palace.”
“I didn’t expect things to be so serious, and it was also because of this incident that Viscount Karen and Father King had a rift.”
“I don’t know if the ‘Battle of the Windmill’ was lost because of the rift between Viscount Karen and Father King. This matter has always weighed on my heart, and I never dared to speak of it.”
“I’m sorry, sister, can you forgive me?”
“It’s alright, I forgive you,” Princess Masha replied, her voice choked with sobs.
Hearing this, the expression on Jabez’s face completely relaxed, then he slowly closed his eyes and stopped breathing.
Looking at the gradually chilling body in her arms, Princess Masha’s sobs choked in her throat, and her beautiful eyes became red and swollen.
Standing beside her with her sword, Sylphidya silently listened to Jabez’s last words, sighing in her heart, and then remembered Iona, with whom she had exchanged blows that night.
If Jabez’s incident had not happened back then, Iona would have probably stayed in the palace, growing up as the princess’s companion and best friend. Viscount Karen and the Grand Duke of Regus would have trusted each other implicitly, and in the ‘Battle of the Windmill,’ with all their strength, the Regus Kingdom might not have fallen to its present state.
But alas, everything was just a “what if.” The flutter of a butterfly’s wings eventually led to a series of unforeseen changes.
Outside the vast barrier, the gigantic three-headed hellhound was still fiercely tearing at the barrier, trying to get in. Under its attack, the ritual array’s isolation barrier was perilously thin.
However, at this moment, twelve of the seventeen layers of the array above the sky had already unfolded, and another brilliant halo shot down from the beacon, striking the earth. The invisible ‘Alien World’ energy field expanded, blasting apart the three-headed hellhound outside the barrier.
This way, the opponent would have to spend some time reforming its body.
The matter wasn’t over yet. Sylphidya looked up, gazing at the constantly parting clouds in the sky. Traces of an external aura permeated through, giving her a strange, unfamiliar yet familiar feeling.
At this point, using the ‘Castle’ Aspect class to fight was no longer appropriate.
Sylphidya removed the badge from her battle armor and placed it in Princess Masha’s hand.
“Take this; it should protect you from being corroded within the array,” she instructed the princess.
Facing the young man who had saved her numerous times, Masha wiped her tearful eyes and accepted the badge.
“Thank you.”
Facing Sylphidya, her feelings were complex; besides gratitude, she didn’t know how to act.
After settling Princess Masha, Sylphidya gently shook her long hair, her gaze fixed on the distant sky that faintly beckoned her. Then, her figure disappeared into the depths of the array.
Alien world, another world, her identity, her origin – how many answers would this mission reveal?
