My Job Is Quite Unique Chapter 8
byChapter 8: A Peculiar World, Eating Soft Rice with Hard Work
Southwind City could be described as enormous. Last night, Jiang He had someone drive him around, and they drove for a long time.
The light at night was dim, and nothing could be seen clearly. Only during the day could he get a glimpse of the peculiar scenes from his memory.
Metal tracks crisscrossed in mid-air, with rail trains shuttling along them. As one moved towards the city center, the buildings on both sides grew taller and taller, giving a feeling of towering skyscrapers similar to his previous life.
“What kind of world is this, after all…”
Even though the original body’s memory contained relevant scenes, Su Chen couldn’t help but exclaim. He walked slowly on the street, occasionally asking people for directions to confirm his location.
The closer one got to the light source area, the more prosperous it became.
There was even a toll to pay between the Outer District and the inner city. Su Chen had no money at all, but thankfully, he showed his temporary student admission letter, which allowed him to pass.
The attire of the pedestrians on the street was even more varied, as if time had gone awry. He even saw people equipped with metal mechanical arms.
Walking and asking along the way also made the various scenes that existed in his original memory truly become his own memories.
After half a day, he finally arrived at Southwind Academy, located in the northern district of Southwind inner city. The yellowish-brown city walls stretched far, standing three to four meters high.
The majestic metal gate was engraved with intricate patterns, and it was currently closed. Only the two small side doors were open, with many people, all young, going in and out.
He immediately saw Jiang He standing by the left small door, because she was simply too eye-catching. Her grey teacher’s skirt barely covered her knees, and her upper body was a purple shirt, highlighting her curves. She even wore gold-rimmed glasses.
Students coming and going, and even people on the street, couldn’t help but stare.
Jiang He seemed to be used to this, her face even showing impatience, her gaze constantly scanning.
Su Chen was spotted by Jiang He at the first moment, and she strode over with a charming gait.
“Why are you so late?” Her face was very displeased. She had been waiting here for half a day, thinking something unexpected had happened.
“Too far, can’t help it.”
“Didn’t you take the floating rail train?” She frowned.
“No money.” Su Chen was very frank.
Jiang He fell silent, then turned and said, “Follow me.”
Their conversation attracted the attention of many people, who began to whisper. Some male students inevitably looked on with envy and jealousy.
Jiang He was considered a famous teacher in the academy. It was rumored that many good-looking students had had in-depth interactions with this teacher, sparking endless speculation.
After entering the school, this situation of being watched became even more apparent. Some even secretly took out some kind of device to record them.
Southwind Academy was not small, and it took them some time to reach the academic affairs building.
“Temporary admission?” The person in charge of the academic affairs office was a middle-aged woman.
Her voice attracted the attention of several middle-aged men in the same office, whose gazes at Su Chen already held a certain meaning, but now turned into outright jealousy.
“En, Teacher Zhao, hurry up.” Jiang He urged, “Oh, and remember to arrange a dormitory for him.”
Su Chen added, “Preferably a private dormitory.”
Teacher Zhao glanced at Su Chen’s face, secretly shook her head, and put away the temporary admission letter.
She operated on an instrument that projected a greyish-yellow virtual screen. “Identity code.”
Su Chen, relying on his memory, rattled off a string of characters, and data loaded onto the virtual screen.
“Vagrant?” Teacher Zhao’s eyes widened.
The gazes from around them became even more surprised, and their looks at Jiang He turned strange.
“Hurry up.” Jiang He said impatiently, she clearly held some status.
The other party dared not delay and quickly processed, transferring the data to Southwind Academy.
“Alright, first year of Mysticism, you’ll follow her classes directly. The dormitory is Room 301, Building 13, Block B. Tuition fees plus accommodation fees plus miscellaneous fees total 1246 gold…”
Teacher Zhao looked up at Su Chen, and Su Chen looked at Jiang He. Jiang He’s face darkened, “I know, I’ll pay for him later.”
“Hmm, and then, hmm?” Teacher Zhao’s face suddenly changed, surprised, “Why is he leaving the city in half a month?”
“Half a month?” Jiang He was also surprised, looking at Su Chen, “Didn’t you say three or four months?”
“In my memory, it was three or four months.” Su Chen recalled. The original owner had a very deep memory of this matter, so it shouldn’t be wrong.
Jiang He’s expression shifted, “I understand.”
“Your student ID…” Teacher Zhao took out a gilded card from the device next to her, bearing Su Chen’s photo.
“Most things in the academy require it.”
The two left one after another, and discussions inevitably broke out in the office.
“How could she get into building a relationship, even with a vagrant? Tsk tsk… even the tuition is paid by her…”
“Who knows, maybe this kid has some special skills, making her happy…”
“But, isn’t it a bit late to enroll now? He’s leaving the city in half a month. Although he’s a temporary student and only needs to perform close-city patrols, it’s not without danger…”
“Someone changed your information…” In the corridor, Jiang He whispered.
“Can’t you change it back?” Su Chen asked.
“If your information was with the Vagrant Bureau, I could find someone to change it, but now that you’ve been admitted to Southwind Academy, it’s very troublesome…” Jiang He was clearly annoyed, “They acted last night, they were really fast.”
“He probably wants to find out what happened last night through you.”
“Why haven’t you killed him yet?” Su Chen asked, knowing who she was referring to.
“There’s something fishy about this matter, and he’s not the only one stirring up trouble behind the scenes. We want to catch them all, and he’s not easy to deal with either…” Jiang He spoke vaguely, then added:
“However, you are already a Strongman, so there won’t be too much danger. Everything that needs to be arranged has been arranged. I need to investigate who changed your information, perhaps this can be a breakthrough.”
She seemed quite excited; Su Chen’s influence was already apparent.
Stepping out of the building, Jiang He hurriedly left. Su Chen looked left and right, then stopped a student, “Excuse me, where is our school library?”
Seeing the student ID in Su Chen’s hand, the student’s attitude visibly softened and pointed him in a general direction.
After taking a couple of steps, Su Chen suddenly stopped again, wistfully saying, “I forgot to ask for money.”
Shaking his head, he headed to the library. He needed to clarify some things as soon as possible.
The artificial light source hanging over Southwind City gradually changed from brilliant white to a dull yellow.
On the fourth floor of the Southwind City library, Su Chen let out a long sigh, twisted his stiff neck, emitting cracking sounds, closed the “Basic Precautions for Occupations” in his hand, and returned it to its original place.
He had caught up on a lot of basic information that the original body didn’t have, such as occupational sequences.
They could broadly be divided into three categories: physique, spirit, and miscellaneous.
Physique-type professions strengthen the body, emphasizing strength belonging to oneself.
Spirit-type professions focus on the spirit, mobilizing mysterious and unpredictable forces from the outside world.
However, these two are not clearly distinct. According to the vague descriptions in the books, some professions can simultaneously possess both physique and spirit.
Categorization is merely a method of distinction. As for miscellaneous, it’s quite peculiar, like the Ropemaster, which belongs to a miscellaneous profession.
The book also gave some common examples, such as a Cartographer, who can translate other people’s descriptions, or even their thoughts, directly into actual blueprints.
Or an Architect, who can uniformly coordinate building materials and construct large buildings in a short amount of time.
Many miscellaneous professions are found in various industries.
