Chapter 4: Candlelight Mental Training Method

“Blood, Blood Oath Contract!” She gnashed her teeth and spat out a few words. “I can make a Blood Oath Contract with you. If you die, I will die too.”

Su Chen stopped dead in his tracks upon hearing about this so-called Blood Oath Contract. “What about me?”

“You… won’t have any problems,” Jiang He replied.

Still somewhat unsatisfied, he asked, “I want something that can control your life.”

“There’s no such thing, at least I can’t do it, and you can’t control it either.” Jiang He forced an explanation. “This is the best method I can think of. There are indeed ways to avoid it, but they come at a huge cost.”

Su Chen looked at her, realizing this was probably as far as they could go. He also didn’t want to leave Southwind City; that was truly a dead end. He could only take a bit of a risk.

“Do you have a book that describes this Blood Oath Contract?” Su Chen nodded.

“Yes, it’s upstairs.” Jiang He’s tense body clearly relaxed, and she let out a sigh of relief. “Let me rest for a bit, and we can go look at it together.”

Su Chen was still a bit uneasy, but then he thought about the resistance he had shown against Jiang He’s AOE attack earlier.

That must have been a mental attack. I had even stronger resistance than a Ropemaster before I became a professional. It might be because I transmigrated.

    Might as well test her…

Su Chen didn’t say much at this thought. He just walked to the side, picked up his clothes, and then picked up the rope that Old Ghost had dropped.

    Hmm?

[Tier 1 Item — Blue-Vein Hemp Rope: A special rope braided from Blue-Vein Grass soaked in black oil for three days, usable by Ropemaster.]

Su Chen was surprised that even items could be identified. He randomly touched some other things, but only the two clothes that could blur one’s figure gave him a prompt.

[Tier 1 Item — Shadow-Hiding Clothes: Clothes made primarily from Shadow Wolf Skin.]

It seemed that only items of this tier came with prompts.

“Do you know who wants to kill you?” He found a place to sit, looking at the two corpses on the ground.

Jiang He was rubbing her eyebrows, her clothes already tattered, revealing large patches of skin. However, she didn’t seem to care. Hearing the question, she couldn’t help but show a hint of venom. “Although I have many enemies, not many genuinely want me dead.”

“You seem to be married,” Su Chen suddenly brought up.

“What do you mean?” Jiang He looked up sharply, with a hint of surprise and suspicion.

“Nothing. They say husband and wife are either the closest or the most distant. If one spouse is murdered, isn’t it normal to suspect the other?” Su Chen said casually.

“That Dried Grass Potion, it has to be drunk, right? The number of people who could drug you is very small.”

“And that guy named Old Ghost said that if you died, your family and the academy would quickly settle the matter, but he didn’t mention whether your husband would.”

“Logically speaking, given the way he described your death, the person who should care the most is your husband.”

Jiang He’s expression changed slightly. Old Ghost had indeed said such words, but just now the situation was so critical that even she herself forgot, yet Su Chen still remembered.

“Is it him… does he dare?” Jiang He murmured, her gaze sweeping over the puddle of burgundy liquid on the ground.

“If it’s him, there must be a reason. Your reputation isn’t good, probably not because of a cuckold. Think carefully.” Su Chen reminded her again.

The reason he also wanted to figure it out was because the mastermind behind it clearly aimed to trap him as well. Since neither of them died today, there would likely be further developments.

“Could it be…” Jiang He suddenly looked up, as if she had realized something. “Tier 3 Professional – Arcane Weaver!”

“Hmm?” Su Chen looked over. Jiang He’s expression was slightly agitated.

“A month and a half ago, my father told me that the family would meticulously select three individuals for cultivation, supporting them all the way to becoming Arcane Weavers.”

“He had been working on my behalf, and half a month ago he told me that the arrangements were almost complete. My father only has one daughter, and the cost for securing the spot had already been paid. Even if something happened to me, my father wouldn’t just hand it over to someone else.”

    “It should go to him.”

“It must be him!” Jiang He was almost certain, yet she couldn’t help but wonder, “But how did he manage to hire two professionals… and this matter is a family secret. My father only told me, and I haven’t revealed it to him.”

Seeing that Jiang He had already sorted out her thoughts and roughly identified the suspect, Su Chen did not continue to analyze for her, only saying: “Arcane Weaver, how to advance?”

“This…” Jiang He shook her head. “I don’t know either. Arcane Weaver is an advanced profession of Arcane Scholar. I don’t even know how Arcane Scholar advances.”

“This information is absolutely confidential.” Arcane Apprentice, Arcane Scholar, Arcane Weaver should be a system of professions.

Folding the hemp rope and the Shadow-Hiding Clothes together, the volume was not large. Su Chen asked: “Since that’s the case, you must know how to become an Arcane Apprentice, right?”

Jiang He hesitated slightly, then said, “First, one must raise their mental energy to a certain standard, and then pass the Whispering Trial.”

Su Chen frowned slightly: “How is ‘a certain standard’ measured?”

Jiang He hesitated, and as Su Chen made to get up, her eyelid twitched. A Tier 1 profession was no great secret.

“Candlelight Mental Training Method…” She hurriedly said, “It’s enough if you can complete ten cycles of construction in one minute.”

“You, you should have it, right?” Su Chen held out his hand.

Arcane Apprentice is a Tier 1 advanced profession, definitely stronger than a [Strongman].

“Yes…” At this point, Jiang He felt a little more at ease and said, “It’s upstairs too. Come with me.”

    “These corpses…” Su Chen mused.

“You don’t need to worry about them; I’ll deal with them tomorrow.” Jiang He seemed to have recovered some of her spirit, regaining her “Violet” demeanor.

Picking up the silver bracelet from the ground and putting it on her hand, a dull yellow virtual projection popped up from it, the image very blurry.

Su Chen’s face showed a momentary strange expression. Memories flooded his mind. This world seemed truly peculiar.

Following Jiang He out of the room, he realized this wasn’t the living room, but the basement.

The servants had already left work, and the room was empty and solemnly quiet.

The two walked up the stairs. A giant wedding photo hung on the stairwell—a man and a woman. The woman was Jiang He, smiling happily.

The man also looked very handsome, with a gentle smile. His most distinctive feature was his pair of light blue pupils.

Su Chen deliberately looked at him for a few extra seconds.

Arriving at the study, Jiang He retrieved a couple of books from the safe. They weren’t too thick, only a few thin pages.

“The Candlelight Mental Training Method. You can’t take it out, so if you want to practice, it’s best to memorize it here,” she emphasized. “Every faction is very strict about tracking this kind of professional information. Taking it out would also be trouble for you.”

Su Chen took it and quickly flipped through it.

The first book recorded several rune arrays, and the Blood Oath Contract was one of them, with its effects being just as Jiang He described.

The second book was about mental training, similar to meditation, which involved drawing the shadow of a candlelight in one’s spiritual domain, and then imagining being burned.

Of course, it wasn’t purely imaginative. It described several spiritual nodes and some tips, such as simulating with a real candle flame first.

    It seemed…

Su Chen closed his eyes, tried for a moment, imagining his mental power outlining a candlelight, slowly detailing its exterior, and then its temperature…

    Boom—

Su Chen felt a sudden heat in his head, then abruptly opened his eyes, surprised and uncertain.

“It’s normal not to be able to outline it on the first try. It would take a normal adult three to five months to complete the first outline. Even though you are already a Tier 1 professional, you’ll still need to practice for ten days or so.”

“You just need to roughly remember it. When you later transfer to Southwind Academy, you can always ask me…” Jiang He, seeing Su Chen’s expression, couldn’t help but comfort him, fearing that he would forcibly take the items away.

Su Chen remained silent. This thing was genuinely not difficult for him. Could it be a small gift from transmigration?

The so-called tenth cycle meant continuously outlining ten candle flames. He had just outlined one, and felt no pressure at all.

The only thing to be concerned about was the time; one minute was a bit short.

At this thought, he suddenly felt something and quickly opened his skill panel.

Sure enough, in addition to the Strongman profession, another separate skill appeared.
