My Job Is Quite Unique Chapter 3
byChapter 3: Sudden Outburst
For a moment, the room was silent.
“Your… excellency…” Old Ghost stammered, “We can discuss this…”
“I’ll let him release Jiang He, and you release me. We can go our separate ways, how about that?”
Su Chen narrowed his eyes, his gaze falling on the Strongman’s bleeding eyes and nose, then glanced at the panel. The [Elementary Combat] skill had disappeared, and under the [Strongman] profession, there was only one ability.
[Vigor: Activates physical potential, temporarily increasing explosive strength.]
This was the professional ability gained from becoming a Strongman. Su Chen wasn’t sure how much of an increase it provided.
However, this brute seemed to be seriously injured.
Hmm?
Su Chen suddenly noticed that Jiang He was blinking frantically, seemingly trying to get his attention.
Seeing that he finally looked over, the woman’s eyes then darted diagonally upwards, aiming at the brute.
What did that mean?
Did she still have a trick up her sleeve?
As expected of a high-level profession, even after being given whatever drug that was, she was still so formidable.
Su Chen also blinked imperceptibly, signaling that he understood.
Old Ghost had been forcibly held with his head down. Seeing that his words received no response, he couldn’t help but continue, “If you kill me, the Strongman will kill Jiang He. Neither of you can do anything to the other, and in the end, it’ll be a lose-lose situation.”
“You were brought here by her, and the Supervision Department can easily track you down.”
He didn’t know why this inferior commoner was completely different from what the data suggested, but since he was hiding, the other party certainly didn’t want to be exposed.
Feeling the large hand clamping his head loosen slightly, Old Ghost breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to press his advantage, he suddenly felt an acute pain in his head.
Su Chen’s hand suddenly exerted force, and with a “snap,” the neck twisted ninety degrees, and all signs of life ceased.
“Old Ghost!” The Strongman’s eyes bulged in a roar. Just as his large hand was about to exert the same force, a strange, piercing pain suddenly shot through his head. The large hand, which almost covered half of Jiang He’s head, instinctively retracted.
Bang!
The wooden floor under Su Chen’s feet shattered, and he shot forward like an arrow released from a bow. The distance between them was already short.
The burst of power after becoming a Strongman was even beyond Su Chen’s own expectations. He barely had time to react before the brute was right in front of him.
Fortunately, he had prepared himself. [Vigor] was already activated, and his heart felt like the accelerator had been pressed down, contracting sharply and then expanding, blood roaring through his veins.
Veins bulged, as if trying to break free from beneath the skin.
The Strongman had only two choices left: either slap Jiang He to death and then be hit by Su Chen’s fist, or block Su Chen.
His body’s instinct reacted faster than his thoughts. His right hand was already poised for impact.
Su Chen had no technique, just a direct punch.
Bang!
Fists collided, and Su Chen’s contorted face showed a hint of surprise. He had struck with all his might, but the power from the opponent’s arm was weaker than he had imagined.
Crack—
A faint sound of bone cracking came from the Strongman’s arm. Intense pain swept through him, and he stumbled backward, his right arm trembling incessantly, his face turning pale with fright as his gaze fell on the tensed veins beneath Su Chen’s skin.
“Perfect… perfect employment!?”
Su Chen was slightly stunned, ignoring everything else, and pressed his advantage. His right foot already swung, connecting with the Strongman’s cheek.
Crack—
Blood spurted, and the Strongman flew backward, knocking over the sofa and falling onto the floor.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Su Chen rushed forward, delivering solid punches to vital points, causing blood to spray.
A moment later, chest heaving, Su Chen stood up and took a deep breath, slowly exhaling. He felt dizzy and his body felt drained.
The Strongman on the floor was already a bloody mess. This battle, even with Jiang He’s help, was much easier than he had imagined.
This guy hadn’t just gotten his profession yesterday. Logically, he should have been much stronger than him.
“Perfect employment?” he muttered softly. The panel did say “perfect employment.” He hadn’t paid much attention to it before, but it seemed to be more significant than he thought.
Rip—
A sound came from behind, and Su Chen spun around abruptly. It was Jiang He, struggling to get up from the floor, swaying unsteadily.
And this woman.
“Su Chen, thank you.” Jiang He’s face showed a relieved expression, mixed with gratitude and sincerity. In her hand, she held a “card” she had just picked up from the floor. “Here, take this.”
Su Chen didn’t speak, just stared at her intently. Gradually, the grateful smile on Jiang He’s face stiffened.
It was then that Su Chen made a move, stepping forward to take the card. “What is an auditing letter?”
Jiang He’s expression changed. The current Su Chen felt like a stranger to her.
Was this his true self? Had he been pretending before?
But why hadn’t she sensed that he was a professional before?
Unable to figure out the situation, Jiang He dared not take any risks and honestly replied, “It’s a non-official student of the academy. Although they can also attend classes, they have to leave the city periodically…”
“You’re lying to me?”
Jiang He’s body trembled slightly. Su Chen’s tone was calm, and his eyes, beneath his messy hair, were exceptionally deep, seemingly devoid of any murderous intent.
But it was precisely under such circumstances that this guy had crushed Old Ghost.
Damn it, who exactly is this guy!
Jiang He cursed inwardly and hurriedly explained, “No, this kind of leaving the city is different from leaving the city as a commoner. It’s a supplement to the City Guard. They only patrol near the city and won’t go to dangerous places to be cannon fodder.”
“I see…” Su Chen nodded thoughtfully, then added, “So, you previously thought I didn’t know the difference and deliberately used the vague term ‘admission letter’ to deceive me?”
“No…” Jiang He shook her head immediately, “There’s only one official enrollment channel per year. If you miss that, no one else can enroll through official channels. I thought you knew…”
Su Chen was noncommittal, then suddenly asked, “What is perfect employment?”
Jiang He was stunned, not understanding what Su Chen meant. Helplessly, she explained, “It means the individual is highly compatible, and the completion of various conditions for the profession is extremely high, allowing for perfect employment.”
“What are the benefits?”
“The benefits… are powerful professional abilities and a lower chance of mutation…” Jiang He spoke of common knowledge, pointing to the mangled Strongman on the floor. “A perfectly employed Strongman should be well-proportioned like you. His large muscles clearly indicate the use of auxiliary potions.”
“Although he could still become a professional, he couldn’t gain professional abilities, and future advancements would be very slim.”
So, this guy didn’t actually have the [Vigor] ability. No wonder he was so weak.
He mused, “Is perfect employment difficult?”
Jiang He explained, “It’s not difficult for low-level professions, but it becomes very troublesome for high-level professions, especially some advanced and top-tier professions, where the employment requirements are extremely harsh.”
Su Chen thought for a moment, then suddenly asked, “Do you have any fatal leverage?”
“Huh?” Jiang He looked bewildered. Su Chen’s erratic questioning made it difficult for her to follow his train of thought.
“If not, I’ll have to kill you.” Su Chen frowned slightly.
Upon hearing this, Jiang He immediately sobered up and quickly said, “You, you can’t kill me. You were brought here by my people, and they can easily trace you.”
“Even if you escape the city, facing the darkness alone is a dead end.”
Su Chen’s frown deepened, and he emphasized, “That’s why I’m asking you if you have any fatal leverage.”
Now, Jiang He understood what he meant. For a moment, she paused again, then forced herself to speak, “You saved me, and I’m very grateful…”
“So, you don’t.” Su Chen interrupted impatiently, already raising his hand.
This woman was not a simple person. Without countermeasures, once she recovered, he would probably be at her mercy.
“Yes, yes!” Jiang He hurriedly cried, “I, I can tell you some of my scandals…”
“No, I need something fatal.” Su Chen shook his head. Scandals were useless.
“It seems I’ll have to run for my life.” Su Chen deliberately increased the pressure, walking slowly towards Jiang He, looking helpless.
Jiang He’s throat bobbed, and cold sweat appeared on her forehead. A first-tier professional leaving the city rashly was a dead end.
But whether the other party died was in the future. She, on the other hand, was about to die immediately.
