Chapter 2: Reversal

    Profession?

Su Chen was stunned, fragmented memories surfacing in his mind.

Professionals were undoubtedly the most revered class in Southwind City, possessing various inconceivable powers.

One could say that every refugee longed to become a professional, so they could settle down and no longer live in fear.

But becoming a professional was not that simple; every profession required extremely demanding rituals to be employed.

Leaving aside the difficulty of the rituals, even their names were considered secrets, let alone the specific details.

And according to the few scattered words his predecessor had heard, a slight error in the ritual could lead to failed employment, turning one into a terrifying monster.

And his personal panel seemed to be able to collect information from outside and then provide employment requirements?

Su Chen’s throat bobbed, and he immediately understood what this meant. Just by relying on the information asymmetry, he could make a fortune.

“I… I am… a mentor at Southwind Academy, and also a member of the Jiang family. If you… if you dare…”

Jiang He’s voice, strained with pain, reached his ears, dimming some of the fervor in Su Chen’s heart.

He composed himself. Regardless of the future, the current trouble hadn’t been resolved yet.

“Haha…” the short man was already squatting in front of Jiang He, his sinister voice coming at the same time, “Madam, of course I know your identity. Alluring Violet, tsk tsk, truly lives up to its name…”

Although Su Chen could only see his back, he could imagine the man’s gaze, currently uninhibitedly scanning Jiang He.

Su Chen couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious, his gaze fixed on [Elementary Combat], which seemed to be his only reliance.

But… he glanced at the burly figure beside him, whose chest muscles were practically larger than his own head.

    Employ as an Arcane Apprentice?

Although he had heard others say that low-level professions didn’t require all advancement conditions to be met to attempt employment.

Even if there were some risks, it wasn’t impossible to give it a try. However, where was a dark environment now…

[Noting the host’s current perilous situation, Arcane Apprentice is contemplating…]

Su Chen’s eyes narrowed. The panel could still change?

[The sagacious Arcane Apprentice decides to take a step back. Arcane Apprentice must now satisfy all advancement conditions before employment, thus gaining an additional reward.]

The characters gradually disappeared. What… what was that?

This profession could think for itself?

    Must complete all employment conditions?

Not even giving me a chance to gamble?

Who knows what the second advancement condition is?

A flood of questions filled his mind, leaving Su Chen bewildered.

Then, a sharp gaze instantly brought him back to reality. The big guy next to him was staring intently at him, seemingly having noticed his recent abnormality.

Su Chen’s heart skipped a beat, but the other party made no further moves.

While relieved, he also grew increasingly anxious. If these two guys weren’t professionals…

“Unfortunately, there’s not much time this time, so I can’t have a good time with Madam…”

The short man’s voice carried a hint of regret, then he stood up and walked to the side, extending his arm. A blue hemp rope slid out from his black sleeve.

Controlled by an unseen force, like a flexible viper, it entwined Jiang He, slowly lifting her and placing her on the sofa.

“Ropemaster…” Jiang He squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth, then looked at the burly giant again, the despair in her eyes clear: “Strongman, two professionals, who wants to kill me?”

“Sorry, Madam, we’re professionals.” The Ropemaster shrugged.

“Professionals…” Jiang He forced an ugly laugh on her pale face. “A scoundrel who only serves prostitutes, not even as good as the Strongman over there who has undergone the Body Forging Trial and can at least change professions. What about you? You’ll have no future your entire life, and you still talk about professionalism?”

Her words were truly venomous. Su Chen had long experienced Jiang He’s poisonous tongue.

He could clearly see the stiff expression on the short man’s face. If she had insulted both of them, maybe the other party wouldn’t have felt much, but flattering one and disparaging the other was different.

At least the big guy next to him raised his head a little higher.

Wait… his heart stirred slightly, and he hastily opened the panel.

[Discovered Tier 1 Intermediate Profession – Strongman]

[Discovered Strongman Advancement Condition – Body Forging Trial: Break the body’s limits ten times through arduous training.]

    [Advancement Condition Two: ???]

Sure enough, there was a new profession, but only Strongman, no Ropemaster. It seemed just the name wasn’t enough.

Su Chen grew increasingly anxious. This wouldn’t work either. The Body Forging Trial also had no realistic conditions and simply couldn’t be completed.

[Noting the host’s crisis, the Strongman profession begins to contemplate…]

Su Chen’s expression changed slightly. No way?

[The valiant Strongman profession decides to push forward, proactively revealing other advancement conditions. Completing any one of them will allow for perfect employment, but all other advancement conditions must be completed within one month after employment, otherwise the profession will be revoked.]

    Hmm? Hmm!

Su Chen’s heart skipped a beat. Sure enough, the second advancement condition under the Strongman profession was no longer a question mark.

[Strongman profession advancement condition two: Possess at least one physical mastery skill.]

Su Chen frowned subconsciously. Physical mastery profession? Where would I…

No, his eyes suddenly lit up. There was still the boon from his past life, [Elementary Combat], which should count as physical, right?

    “It’s your turn…”

Suddenly, Su Chen’s expression changed slightly. The short man had come up beside him at some point. Just now, his attention had been almost entirely on the mental panel, only hearing the guy saying something like, “Madam is in good spirits,” and “I hope she can still say such things later”…

“A nice physique…” The short man seemed to finally get around to sizing him up, a malicious glint in his sinister eyes. “No wonder you could get a provisional student letter just by using your body…”

Provisional student letter? Wasn’t it an admission letter?

Su Chen couldn’t help but feel bewildered, but then he saw the floating blue hemp rope already trailing from his sleeve, wrapping around his limbs. His body began to move uncontrollably.

“…An inferior refugee was threatened by an academy teacher and accidentally got killed during intimacy, taking the other person with them in death, both perishing. That should be plausible, right?”

He stroked his chin, narrating malevolently: “When the guards come in, you’ll be lying naked on the sofa. Such a scandal, your family and the academy probably won’t publicize it much, and the case will be closed quickly, right?”

The Ropemaster looked at Su Chen again, a strange smile on his lips: “You’re lucky, little guy. You get to enjoy this beautiful body before you die. But don’t worry, I won’t let you ejaculate. Hold it in.”

Jiang He’s face was pale. At this moment, whether out of fear or something else, she stopped speaking.

Meanwhile, Su Chen, bound by the rope, was uncontrollably led towards the sofa. Just then, the room lights dimmed.

The short man’s expression changed dramatically, and he suddenly looked at Jiang He, who had a venomous look on her face. Her mouth opened.

    “Li (a mystical sound)!”

She uttered an incomprehensible syllable, the sound not loud, yet it seemed to come from a great distance, piercing and sharp, slamming into the minds of the three people present.

Su Chen felt his body relax, his mind felt like a steel cone had been driven into it, and two muffled thuds and wails came from behind him.

“Go, go, pinch her mouth!” The Ropemaster roared, clutching his head and hunching over.

The Strongman, however, seemed somewhat different. Although clearly in pain, he could still manage to move, walking towards Jiang He.

Su Chen was on the ground now, and for some reason, he wasn’t in as much pain; his thoughts were even clearer.

A giant shadow stepped over him. It was the big guy.

Su Chen’s mind raced, knowing this was the perfect moment. Without hesitation.

    [Elementary Combat] Equipped!

A strange sensation instantly invaded his entire body. It was like countless ants crawling between his bones, his muscle fibers quietly thickening, his slender body undergoing silent changes.

But in this situation, no one cared about him.

Su Chen gritted his teeth, his pupils bloodshot, staring intently at the panel that no one else could see.

    [Advancement condition met]

After the Strongman profession, two clear characters appeared – Employ!

His gaze fixed on those two words. As if sensing his resolve, the Strongman profession abruptly disintegrated. Su Chen felt his heart leap intensely, as if struck by a war drum.

    [Strongman profession has been employed]

    [Gained ability – Vigor]

Immediately after, a much more intense change than before surged through him. His muscle tissue felt as if it was being torn apart and then forcibly sewn back together.

The power he possessed rapidly surged, but this change did not make him develop in the direction of a hulking brute; instead, it made his physique more balanced.

    Thump! Thump! Thump!

The sound of his heart beating echoed in his ears. The equipping of [Elementary Combat] and the employment of [Strongman] brought about enormous changes, coupled with the strange influence from Jiang He, his consciousness was almost submerged.

But fortunately, this change quickly ended, the pain in his body rapidly receded, and at the same time, the pain in his mind became negligible.

Without time to experience the changes in his body, he suddenly turned his head to look at the Ropemaster, who was clutching his head and groaning.

At the same time, the Strongman had just reached Jiang He, his hand moving towards her head, eyes wide with fury, blood seeping from his mouth and nose.

The eerie syllable suddenly vanished, and the Ropemaster breathed a sigh of relief, feeling as if a great burden had been lifted.

“Damn it, don’t worry, I’ll make both of you die a very…” The Ropemaster snarled, his face suddenly stiffening as a shadow fell over him.

His throat barely moved. The rope that had fallen beside him swayed. Before he could react, he felt an unseen hand clamp down on his head like an iron vice.

The intense stinging pain reminded him that with just a little force, the other party could inflict irreversible damage to his head.

“Don’t move…” A cold voice came, and the Ropemaster’s body trembled, a look of utter disbelief appearing on his lowered face.

How… how could this be possible…

“Hoo…” Su Chen slowly exhaled, his hand rotating, already at the Ropemaster’s side.

“Old ghost…” Just then, the Strongman also turned around. Their six eyes met, filled with astonishment.

Indeed, the Strongman hadn’t killed Jiang He directly; their plan wasn’t complete yet, they had only gagged her.

“You…” The Strongman seemed not to have processed what was happening, his brows furrowed.

And Jiang He was staring at Su Chen, equally bewildered. She had been shielded from seeing Su Chen by the Strongman’s bulky figure and hadn’t noticed what was happening to him.

Even less did she expect that in a blink of an eye, the other party had subdued the Ropemaster.

His previously gaunt upper body had become lean and muscular, his muscles evenly distributed, and the expression on his face made her feel even more unfamiliar.

    Cold, vigilant, and ferocious.

She had never seen these qualities in Su Chen before.
