Chapter 34: My Mother Is Not Suitable to Be a Pharmacist
by DiswaIn the second-floor basement, little Will curiously observed everything around him. It was actually a bit larger than the first floor. There were many beast skin scrolls, and some items emitting strange fluctuations, which must be enchanted items. Not only did his father have secrets, but his mother’s secrets seemed even greater. He just didn’t know if his father was aware.
“Ding~, special document found, ‘Starry Sky Meditation Method’, an intermediate meditation method for Wizard Apprentices. Do you wish to contribute? Contribution successful. You have gained 1,800 contribution points. The God of Wisdom is very pleased with the offering from the Apostle. The Apostle’s Space has increased by one cubic unit. We hope the Apostle will continue to strive and work hard.”
The proxy elf’s voice was as fast as ever. After asking him, it didn’t wait for his reply and automatically contributed. Fortunately, this was a knowledge-based sacrifice and wouldn’t affect physical objects. Otherwise, if many things disappeared out of thin air, he really wouldn’t be able to explain it.

Little Will realized he had stumbled into a treasure trove, with a massive influx of contribution points. Now that he had discovered these things, did his mother intend to explain something to him afterwards? How did that strange magical beast suddenly appear at their doorstep? Could his father and mother deal with it? That was a legendary magical beast, a super monster with a strong body that could cast magic, an existence that only protagonists could defeat in stories.
“Ding~, low-level enchanted item found. It has a certain radiating effect on the Apostle, which can slightly enhance physical strength, with minor damage. The enchanted item is low-level and has collection value. Do you wish to enable the Eye of Appraisal for appraisal?” As expected, for physical objects, the proxy elf would first require appraisal.
“Ding~, Eye of Appraisal enabled. Appraisal starting. Please do not look away, Apostle. Appraisal complete. Starlight Mirror, a low-level enchanted item, handcrafted from fallen meteorites, placed atop a high mountain to absorb starlight and moonlight, mixed with the dew of a hundred herbs. It can slightly enhance physical strength, with minor damage, and is ineffective for those above advanced knights. Sacrificing this item will yield 500 contribution points.”
Oh, it seemed that sacrificing physical objects wasn’t something that could be resolved by just asking; the Apostle had to actively sacrifice them. Little Will summarized another rule.
Looking at the items in the basement, little Will began to think hard. His mother was a wizard. Although he hadn’t used the Eye of Appraisal to confirm, he could now pretty much confirm it. His mother’s school should be the Arcane School or the Starry Sky School. Her meditation method was an intermediate one, and without comparison, he didn’t know its quality. Besides some basic knowledge, his mother’s collection and research focused on physical enhancement and potions. It seemed his mother wanted to strengthen and treat his father’s hidden injuries, but he didn’t know why it had never succeeded.
“Ding~, special document found, ‘Alchemy Diary of Mojes, a Third-Level Wizard Apprentice’. Contribution successful. You have gained 200 contribution points. Please continue to strive, Apostle.”
Huh, it was actually his mother’s alchemy manual. Well, the term ‘alchemy’ felt a bit strange; it was more like a potion apprentice’s manual. Opening the diary, little Will skimmed through it, finding it filled with his mother’s complaints. Why did blue-green grass lose its medicinal properties after drying? Why couldn’t wizardry be used to process the saliva of hairy caterpillars? Why did lightfoot grass have to be fresh to be effective? Why did the crucible have to be cleaned every time? Why couldn’t the order of herbs be changed when making purifying potions? Why were the time requirements so strict when brewing potions?
In this diary, his mother became a ‘hundred thousand whys’. Ultimately, little Will came to one conclusion: his mother’s talent in potions was really not that great. No wonder the family’s meals initially only had a dozen or so dishes, and they were all simple combinations. Brewing potions, even low-level ones, required dozens of ingredients, and the time, temperature, order, and magic power requirements during the preparation process were extremely strict. Even a slight error would lead to failure. His mother had been studying potions for ten years, yet she hadn’t even managed to create a few of the lowest-level potions.
She was a theoretical expert but a weak practitioner, extremely poor at hands-on work, which was the biggest reason she had never become a potion master.
“Brother, when will Father and Mother be back?” Little Via was no longer a one or two-year-old child. The five-year-old girl was already sensible. She fearfully clutched little Will’s sleeve, looking at him timidly, hoping for a shred of comfort.
“Soon, Father is an official knight, a powerful hero. He will defeat the magical beast and return victorious. Mother just went out to prepare his celebratory dinner.” Little Will stroked his sister’s hair, feeling a bit uncertain himself. What his father and mother needed to do most wasn’t to defeat the magical beast, but to ensure their own safety. Drake City would naturally have other strong individuals to deal with this magical beast. For them, simply holding on was victory.
“Starry Sky Wizardry, Meteor Shower!” “Starry Sky Wizardry, Meteor Shower!” “Starry Sky Wizardry, Meteor Shower!” “Starry Sky Wizardry, Meteor Shower!”
By the time Mojes ran out of magic power, the poor magical wolf was already on its last breath, transformed into a small young man lying in a huge meteorite crater. Floret slumped to the ground, breathing heavily, his gaze falling on the young man’s clothes. A look of shock appeared on his face. He knew this person. But hadn’t he gone missing more than ten years ago? And his appearance was exactly the same as it was back then.
Someone was coming. From the sound, there seemed to be quite a few of them. “My dear, quickly take this person away. Leave the rest to me.” Floret knew his wife couldn’t be exposed. Mojes also understood the gravity of the situation. With a simple levitation spell, she carried the unconscious young man and took a detour, not going straight home, but running towards her parents’ house.
Floret jumped into the meteorite crater, rolled around in it, and wiped some dirt on his face and head before calmly closing his eyes. He was so tired!
“Sir Declan, are you alright?” Knight Kent of the Temple was the first to appear. He saw the chaotic scene and finally found the “unconscious” Sir Declan Floret in the pit.
“Sir Declan is severely injured, Sister. Please treat him as quickly as possible.”
“Prepare a stretcher. Immediately send people to Sir Declan’s house; that might be the primary battlefield.”
