Chapter 14: If It’s Unavailable, Why Bother Telling Me?
by DiswaSwordsmanship training was only part of the Knight Cultivation, and Vol taught them, or rather, was only permitted to teach them simple foundational swordsmanship.
After three breaks during the full hour dedicated to the first move, the Cleaving Sword, fewer than five people could still persist.
Angell performed the best, followed by Weil.
A one-year gap was not easy to bridge.
Moreover, Weil had to appear as much like a novice as possible; no matter how much he understood, he couldn’t display it all at once.
Geniuses were welcomed, but Prodigies would be shunned.
With Angell taking the lead, Weil’s performance was no longer unacceptable in the eyes of the students.
However, Vol, who knew Weil had only undergone two and a half days of Knight Cultivation, was utterly shocked.
This was definitely a Genius of Knight Cultivation.
Mildis Intermediate Academy provided lunch and required students to take a nap.
Dean of Instruction Grinsen would inspect each classroom in turn.
After the “high-intensity” swordsmanship Cultivation at noon, no one chose to skip the nap.
In fact, several students, exhausted from over-fatigue, overslept and were caught by Grinsen sleeping during the afternoon geography class.
Pastor Paster was as benevolent as ever and began reciting the radiance of the goddess.
It seemed to contain truths regarding history and geography, suggesting that as long as they memorized the radiance of the goddess, no exam could stump them.
Mischievous Fittman quietly said to Little Weir, “If we suggested the teacher take the relevant subject exams with us, I wonder how many points Pastor Paster would score? He wouldn’t write down chapters of the radiance of the goddess for the entire test, would he?”
Weil, who was diligently self-studying geography knowledge, almost burst out laughing.
The two students behind him heard Fittman’s words and couldn’t help but laugh, though they forcefully suppressed it, keeping the sound very low.
This possibility was genuinely high.
Judging by Fittman’s expression, he seemed truly intent on making this suggestion.
If he mobilized the rest of the class and contacted the parents, it might create the biggest joke in the history of Mildis Intermediate Academy: a substitute teacher scoring zero on the exam for the course they were responsible for.
Just thinking about it felt terrifying.
In truth, having a Pastor read the radiance of the goddess during history and geography classes instead of teaching was already quite dreadful.
The afternoon classes ended early, and students gradually headed home.
Little Weir, who lived nearby and never needed parents to pick him up, gained a rare period of free time.
The school wouldn’t close before nightfall, as students in the Fifth Grade and Sixth Grade were still having class.
His contribution points were running low, and he needed to replenish them quickly.
He didn’t know how much income the books in the library could bring him, hoping there wasn’t too much overlap with the books at Professor Wiesel’s bookstore.
The Mildis Intermediate Academy library was open internally.
The lower two floors were for student use, and the third floor was only open to teachers.
With over three hundred square meters per floor, a vast number of books could be housed.
Since this was a school and the library was always staffed, Little Weir dared not openly flip through books.
He could only pretend to be searching, flipping through books one by one, putting them back, and taking another.
The school library had many books, but being an Intermediate Academy library, many were duplicates or reprints, and such books could not earn repeat contribution points.
As he sifted through them, his fingertip tracing the spine of a book, the proxy spirit would alert him if it had contribution value.
If not, he bypassed it; if it did, he pulled it out.
This new ability was the result of Weil haggling with the proxy spirit, trading for the service at the price of one contribution point for every ten valuable books.
Through this, Weil realized that the proxy spirit should not be seen as a rigid, fixed program, but rather a cunning Little Witch—hmm, somewhat similar to his beloved younger sister.
Could this be because he chose her sister as the prototype when selecting it?
“Oh, isn’t this our dear Outstanding Student, Classmate Weir? Why haven’t you gone home after school? Lingering at school is not what a good child should do, although I truly wish students would spend more time quietly reading in the library.
“However,” Dean of Instruction Grinsen, who had appeared behind him without warning, interrupted Weil’s enjoyable contribution point earning activity, “this irresponsible flipping through books is not praiseworthy.
If you are just looking for your playboy 50th anniversary collector’s edition, as the teacher who confiscated your magazine, I can responsibly tell you that I would never place a student’s book inside the library.
Even if it were in the library, books like playboy would never be placed where students could see them.
So, our dear Outstanding Student, Classmate Weir, can you tell me what you are doing?”
“Good afternoon, Teacher Grinsen.
I am looking for suitable geography textbooks.
You heard today’s lesson.
Pastor Paster is a very devout believer, and his devotion to the radiance of the goddess outweighs his responsibility to the students.
I cannot allow Pastor Paster to cause me to fail to achieve ‘Outstanding’ marks in this semester’s geography and history exams.
My goal is to graduate with ‘Outstanding’ in all courses and be recommended to Draik Higher Academy.
Only Recommended Students are eligible for Tuition Reduction and Scholarships.”
Weil continued politely, maintaining his usual demeanor: “I have reviewed the exam papers from previous years.
Textbook knowledge only covers eighty percent; there is a five-point gap remaining to reach ‘Outstanding,’ and the remaining twenty points can only be found in the library.
If possible, Teacher Grinsen, could you help me find these types of books?”
“Ah-ha, the weather today is nice, a suitable day for fishing.
The water in the school pond is very deep, and I hope students don’t approach it casually.
I must go check it out.
Our dear Outstanding Student, Classmate Weir, please continue to work hard.
Achieving ‘Outstanding’ in all courses is not just a dream.
I hope you can become the first student in the history of Mildis Intermediate Academy to graduate with ‘Outstanding’ in all subjects.
When that happens, an invitation letter from Draik Higher Academy will certainly be yours, and Tuition Reduction and Scholarships will not be far behind.
Good luck!”
Grinsen liked being called Teacher, but he knew little about the knowledge taught at the school.
The library was just one of his patrol locations, not a place where he could casually guide students.
After walking down two rows of bookshelves, it was nearly time for school dismissal.
The harvest was decent; another nine hundred contribution points were logged.
Weil realized that ordinary books were becoming increasingly difficult to gain contribution points from.
To avoid suspicion, Weil still checked out the geography book he deemed most relevant, registered it with the librarian, and left the library with the book.
Weil began considering how he should talk to his father about the Temple Knight Cultivation Method he learned today.
Should he continue Cultivating according to his father’s Savage and Crude Cultivation Method after returning home, or should he use the improved version of the Temple Knight Cultivation Method?
Furthermore, many of the hidden injuries on his father’s body were caused by Cultivation; how should those be remedied?
This is so annoying! It turns out that as you grow up, you really do get more and more worries.
I’m clearly just a thirteen-year-old child, why do I have so many troubles?!
“Ding~, sensing the Apostle’s distress, we specially offer the following methods for the Apostle to choose from: 1. Use a Transcendent Potion to gradually compensate for losses and repair injuries; 2. Awaken the injured person’s Bloodline to enhance recovery ability; 3. Learn the Tendon Changing and Bone Forging Method to gradually restore injuries.”
The proxy spirit’s voice sounded like heavenly music this time.
“The Apostle is worried about Cultivation Methods.
The Spirit offers the following suggestions: 1. Referencing the Temple Knight Cultivation Method, improve the Family Cultivation Method. The external appearance will seem largely unchanged, but the interior has been modified to reduce injury and increase efficiency; 2. Be completely honest with your father, clearly explain the drawbacks of the Inherited Cultivation Method, and then Cultivate the Foundational Cultivation Method provided by the Divine Spirit.”
“Huh. Can I exchange for a Transcendent Potion now? What does ‘Awaken Bloodline’ mean?” Weil asked, surprised.
“Transcendent Potions are currently unavailable for exchange.
The Apostle’s father’s Bloodline has not been appraised, so it cannot be Awakened at this time.
The Apostle’s Rank is too low, and the Bloodline Appraisal function has not been activated.
It is recommended that you exchange for the Tendon Changing and Bone Forging Method.”
The proxy spirit’s words made Weil feel speechless. If it’s unavailable, why bother telling me?
“How many contribution points are required to exchange for the Tendon Changing and Bone Forging Method?” Weil asked.
He had less than a thousand contribution points left, and he wasn’t sure if that was enough.
“Beginner Tendon and Bone Forging Method is five hundred contribution points, Intermediate Tendon is five thousand contribution points, and Advanced Tendon and Bone Forging Method is fifty thousand contribution points.
Improving the Inherited Cultivation Method: preliminary modification of drawbacks is three hundred contribution points, Increasing Cultivation Efficiency is three hundred contribution points, Perfecting Cultivation Content is three hundred contribution points, and overall elevation to the Intermediate Cultivation Method is two thousand eight hundred contribution points.”
So expensive! I can’t afford it!
“Exchange for the Beginner Tendon and Bone Forging Method and preliminary modification of the Family Cultivation Method drawbacks.”
Well, eight hundred contribution points were gone again.
Weil did not know that after he left, our Dean of Instruction Grinsen returned to the library, briefly checked the borrowing records, selected the same book, and left.
