Chapter Index

The monster locked onto Senior Knight Molly and swooped down to attack. Senior Knight Molly casually threw a bottle, which shattered in mid-air as it met the monster, unleashing a sacred aura—it was Holy Water from the Church of the Goddess of Dawn.

The Holy Water hissed and sizzled on the monster’s body, emitting a bloody stench. The monster let out a pained groan, nearly losing control of its body and falling to the ground.

“Damn it! Once I successfully sacrifice to the great All-Powerful Demon and gain even greater strength, I’ll make you pay! No, I’ll make everyone who looked down on me pay a heavy price! I am the most talented lord in Marbost County!” The monster roared, and the bloody aura that emanated from it made the pockmarks on its body, corroded by the Holy Water, disappear in an instant.

The monster glared down at Senior Knight Molly, then spread its wings and quickly flew towards Mirdis Junior Academy.

Meanwhile, over a hundred Temple Knights, more than twenty priests and clerics, surrounded a small house. There were also many experts from the Church of the Goddess of Dawn, the Church of the God of Storms, the Church of the God of Craftsmen, the Church of the Moon Goddess, and the Church of the God of Commerce and Wealth.

There were three White-Robed Bishops alone, and over ten Senior Knights. Layte Kendal, two Senior Knights from the Kendal family, and five official wizards, including Statham, were also present.

The small house was already on the verge of collapse. In the courtyard, two figures huddled together: a petite woman with a pale face and long, snow-white hair, and a tall figure covered in bone armor, with sharp claws and a grotesque mask, a stark contrast to the small figure.

“Grinsen, you are surrounded. Struggling in vain is meaningless. Give up your resistance, and the merciful goddess will redeem you,” Sir Vol Temple Knight’s voice echoed from afar.

Indeed, the tall, grotesque figure was Grinsen, who had transformed in plain sight. Two streams of bloody tears flowed down his face, accompanied by a roar, “The goddess’s redemption?! Hahahahaha, ten years ago, when my wife was gravely ill and I knelt before the church doors, pleading bitterly, why didn’t you mention the goddess’s redemption?

Ten years ago, when my son was offered as a sacrifice and became food for demons, why didn’t you stand up?! When the gods couldn’t save me, I chose to become a follower of demons!”

“You are a follower of demons?!” The White-Robed Bishop of the Church of the Goddess of Dawn’s expression changed slightly.

Not a devil, but a follower of demons. No wonder he was able to transform instantly and block the first wave of attacks. The power of demons is very strange; ordinary physical attacks, battle qi attacks, and even witchcraft may not be effective. Only divine magic can suppress him.

“Grinsen, demons are evil beings. They are cunning and cruel; they will not truly help you. Believing in demons will lead to being devoured.” Sir Vol Temple Knight’s expression also became somewhat grim.

It was a miscalculation; he hadn’t expected Grinsen to be a follower of demons, not devils. Fortunately, this time he had gathered more priests and clerics among the church members.

Otherwise, this kind of invulnerable monster would have been truly difficult for knights and wizards to deal with. Moreover, a follower of demons is different from a follower of devils; until the demonic power on him disappears, he is practically immortal.

Even if he dies, his soul will be devoured by the demon.

“Haha, devoured? My soul stopped belonging to me ten years ago.” The monster Grinsen’s bloody tears grew longer and longer. “Do you really think I don’t know what demons are like?

Ten years ago, I used the power of a demon to revive my wife, but what was revived was just a walking corpse. Even so, I still loved my wife.

I wanted to revive my son, but I couldn’t be sure if the soul I retrieved from the demon was truly my son’s. I wanted to break free from the demon’s shackles, but no one could help me.

Sometimes I would secretly ask myself, what is the difference between gods and demons? Both are so high and mighty.

Perhaps the only difference is that gods, being high and mighty, are indifferent to everything, allowing their followers to act as they please, while high and mighty demons enjoy watching their followers struggle and sink deeper.

If there’s another difference, it’s that followers of gods can be tempted by demons, but followers of demons are marked with an indelible stain, forever unable to return to the embrace of the gods.”

“I should have died ten years ago. I exchanged my heart for the power of a demon, and with that power, I revived my wife. But demons are not gods; their blessings always come with deep malice.

My wife can only stay by my side in the form of a monster. I know that in her eyes, I might just be food. I know she is no longer my wife, but just a monster with my wife’s appearance.

But my love for her prevents me from truly giving up. When my life is about to run out, I will choose to let her accompany me into death.” The monster Grinsen gently stroked his “wife’s” hair, only to find that two streams of bloody tears also appeared on her face.

A faint smile appeared on the monster Grinsen’s face. “My dear, I always believed we could overcome the demon’s temptation. I always believed you would eventually return to my side.”

“Mr. Grinsen, did you just say you exchanged your heart for the demon’s power?” Sir Vol Temple Knight suddenly sensed something unusual.

The moon in the sky seemed to be tinged with a faint crimson glow—a sign of blood sacrifice. But Grinsen was already surrounded by them, so who was performing the blood sacrifice?

“I have never harmed anyone, not even those thugs in Marbost County whom I hated. I only wanted to bring them to justice. From beginning to end, I just wanted to quietly spend the rest of my life with my family, though my remaining life is not much.”

The monster Grinsen looked up at the sky. “Has it begun? Has this day finally arrived? It seems even brighter than the Blood Moon ten years ago.”

Was today’s moon really brighter than the Blood Moon ten years ago? That was impossible, because today was not a full moon, and the Blood Moon revealed by the demon’s power could not truly be bright. What was bright was only Grinsen’s heart.

“So the Heart-Plucking Demon of Drake City isn’t you? But your current appearance?” Sir Vol Temple Knight found it hard to believe his ears.

However, the already scarred monster and the Blood Moon appearing in the sky all indicated the existence of another monster, who was currently preparing to perform a blood sacrifice to the demon.

“Because of the contract, I cannot reveal any information about the demon to you. My time is running out. Can you let me quietly accompany my wife to face my death?” Grinsen embraced his wife.

Although it was eternal coldness, he felt exceptionally peaceful.

Suddenly, a commotion came from outside. The words “Heart-Plucking Demon,” “Blood Sacrifice Main Offering,” “Mirdis Junior Academy,” and “Demon” were heard.

Grinsen’s expression suddenly changed drastically. “Damn it, that bastard actually captured students from the school as sacrifices! How dare he?! How could he do it?!”

“Senior Knight Molly, why are you here?” Sir Vol Temple Knight suddenly had a bad premonition.

“Little Will has been captured. The Heart-Plucking Demon is a follower of the demon, and he captured Little Will to sacrifice him to the demon,” Senior Knight Molly shouted loudly.

“The demon’s blood sacrifice has been moved up, and the Blood Moon is forming. We must stop him quickly, or it will be too late.”

“Why haven’t the Temple Knights in the school sent any news?” Sir Vol Temple Knight was greatly shocked, and at the same time, he thought of something very bad.

    Perhaps…

“Bishop’s orders! Immediately proceed to Mirdis Junior Academy. Mr. Grinsen, if it’s convenient, would you like to come along? His Grace the Bishop says he trusts you.”

A Senior Temple Knight stared intently at the monster Grinsen. The latter tightened his embrace around the petite figure in his arms and nodded gently. “It’s time to end everything. In the study, on the second shelf, in the deepest part, the third book from the end, remove the cover, and it’s the magazine I confiscated from classmate Will Decland. Perhaps you can use it.”

“What is recorded inside?” Sir Vol Temple Knight’s heart stirred, but Grinsen gently shook his head, embracing his wife’s small body, and walked out of the house without a backward glance.
