Chapter Index

“Miss, you still haven’t told me if something is troubling you?” Yu Xian smiled gently, making one feel as if bathed in spring breeze.

“Ah, this… I…” Xuanyuan Qingfeng was momentarily stumped by Yu Xian’s question, not knowing how to answer. Should she say she had no worries? She did, but how could she tell a person she had just met about her troubles?

    Especially someone like Yu Xian.

“Have you run into some difficulty? Do you need my help?” Yu Xian’s tone was soft, his gaze carrying just the right amount of concern, as if he could penetrate all her defenses.

He did not press her, merely looked at her quietly, waiting for her response. That composure and patience inexplicably eased the tension in Xuanyuan Qingfeng’s heart a little.

She gazed into Yu Xian’s eyes, which were as deep as the starry sky. There was no hint of probing or pity in them, only pure tranquility and goodwill, as if no matter what predicament she revealed, he would possess the ability to gently resolve it.

Xuanyuan Qingfeng’s hand gripping the sword hilt trembled slightly, a complex light flashing across her eyes.

Over the years, she had shouldered the heavy burden and humiliation of the Family alone, long accustomed to burying all her emotions deep within her heart. Never had anyone asked her so directly yet gently if she needed assistance.

She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but the words caught in her throat and she swallowed them back.

The Family’s filth and her own predicament—how could those be explained in a few short sentences?

Moreover, although the person before her was the legendary Master of the Divine Revelation Heavenly Expanse, they were complete strangers. How could she easily expose her fragility to a stranger?

She took a deep breath, suppressing the turbulence in her heart, and managed to force out a distant, detached smile. “Thank you for your concern, Young Master Yu. I can handle the affairs of my Xuanyuan Family myself.”

As soon as she finished speaking, she turned her head away, no longer looking at Yu Xian, as if trying to conceal her inner wavering with this gesture.

However, her slightly trembling shoulders betrayed that she was not as strong as she appeared on the surface.

Yu Xian nodded slightly, not continuing to press. He simply looked quietly at Xuanyuan Qingfeng, then said again, “I come from the North Mang. I feel somewhat weary passing through this place. I wonder if I might trouble the young lady for a cup of tea?”

Opportunities must be created by oneself. His objective was clear from the start.

“This… If Young Master doesn’t mind… please follow me.”, Xuanyuan Qingfeng was quite surprised that Yu Xian would say this. Hadn’t he just said the Xuan Yuan Clan was chaotic and displeased him? Why would he now be willing to stay for a cup of tea?

    Was it because of her?

She could feel Yu Xian’s gaze constantly on her… Thinking this, Xuanyuan Qingfeng’s heart instantly began to pound. But she was also afraid she was being overly sentimental.

However, whatever the reason, it was an honor for the Xuan Yuan Clan to host such a great figure as Yu Xian. So, after steadying her composure, she immediately invited Yu Xian back to her courtyard.

Xuanyuan Qingfeng led Yu Xian back to the courtyard where the main branch of the Family resided.

In the courtyard was a plaque inscribed with “Pot Heaven Eternal Spring” written in standard script by her father, Xuan Yuan Jingcheng. Passing through the main hall led to a Decree Tower, and behind that was the Lingzhi Courtyard. On either side were narrow side rooms, and further back was the rear hall of her private residence.

Xuanyuan Qingfeng truly did not dare bring Yu Xian into her rear hall. After all, she had only just met Yu Xian. Even though he held a noble status and his gaze was forthright, she could not calmly let a strange man step into such a private space.

Furthermore, the Family was riddled with spies. If someone with ill intentions saw her leading a strange man into the inner court, who knew how much gossip would arise, adding unnecessary trouble? She was already walking on thin ice now and truly did not wish to invite further complications.

Xuanyuan Qingfeng led Yu Xian into the main hall and personally served him tea.

Just as she was about to say something, she saw her father, Xuan Yuan Jingcheng, walk in.

Yu Xian took a light sip of the tea, ignoring Xuan Yuan Jingcheng’s arrival, and instead praised the tea as excellent.

“Qingfeng, who is this?” Xuan Yuan Jingcheng saw a young man whose attire and appearance were extraordinary sitting in the hall, and who seemed to pay him no heed. He couldn’t help but ask Xuanyuan Qingfeng.

Xuanyuan Qingfeng saw Yu Xian come in and actually just drink tea, which filled her with even more curiosity about him.

“Father, this is Yu Xian, Young Master Yu, from the Divine Revelation Heavenly Expanse. He was just passing by our Family and decided to… stop in for a seat.”, Xuanyuan Qingfeng quickly introduced him to her father, her tone carrying a trace of imperceptible nervousness.

When Xuan Yuan Jingcheng heard the names “Divine Revelation Heavenly Expanse” and “Yu Xian,” a flicker of shock instantly crossed his previously calm face.

He put down the scroll in his hand, looked solemnly at Yu Xian, and cupped his hands in a formal salute. “So it is Young Master Yu gracing us with your presence. I apologize for my lack of proper etiquette. I wonder what brings the Young Master here today?”

Although he was dressed like a scholar, there was a steady composure in his bearing. Though he spent his days reading behind closed doors, he was certainly aware of Yu Xian of the Heavenly Expanse, who now commanded prestige across all nations. He just didn’t know why the other party would come to the Xuan Yuan Family.

Could it really be as Xuanyuan Qingfeng said—just passing by and stopping for a seat? But who would believe that?

“Passing by, I saw that the Xuan Yuan Clan was chaotic, and I saw this young lady with a worried frown. I am the type of person who cannot bear to see a beauty troubled, so I stopped to inquire.”, Yu Xian took another sip of tea, his gaze falling upon Xuanyuan Qingfeng.

Hearing this, Xuanyuan Qingfeng couldn’t help but feel a flush of heat on her face. This…

Xuan Yuan Jingcheng indeed frowned. He was well aware of the filth within the Family, but he hadn’t expected it to be exposed so bluntly by an outsider.

He glanced at the daughter beside him, seeing her face slightly red, her eyes holding a degree of embarrassment and unease. He couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.

He then suppressed the complex emotions stirring within him and cupped his hands toward Yu Xian, “My Family has brought shame upon itself, making Young Master Yu laugh. But I don’t understand what the Young Master means by that?”

His words carried a hint of probing, trying to see whether Yu Xian’s visit was merely a casual stop or if he had another motive.

“Do you know that Xuan Yuan Da Pan already has designs on her, wanting to use her as a Cauldron?” Yu Xian’s tone suddenly turned somewhat icy.

    “What?”

    Two voices sounded simultaneously.

Yu Xian’s words were like a massive stone cast into a calm lake, instantly stirring up towering waves in the hearts of Xuan Yuan Jingcheng and Xuanyuan Qingfeng.

Xuan Yuan Jingcheng’s face turned deathly pale, his body trembling uncontrollably. Yu Xian’s words sent a chilling cold and despair through him.

As for Xuanyuan Qingfeng, she felt as if struck by lightning. The color instantly drained from her pretty face, and her hand gripping the teacup tightened abruptly, nearly spilling the tea.

Although she had vaguely sensed that the Old Ancestor Xuan Yuan Da Pan looked at her strangely, and she had long harbored unease, when this most unbearable and humiliating layer of secrecy was so nakedly torn open by an outsider, the shame and fear intertwined almost suffocated her.

“Young Master, this is not something to joke about.”, Xuan Yuan Jingcheng’s face was ashen, but he still tried his best to steady his mind.

He knew that what Yu Xian said was likely true, but since the Old Ancestor hadn’t exposed this matter yet, he still held onto a shred of hope.
