Chapter 130 The Shield of Hel
by MachineSamurai9124When they first met, Dekar was very curious about the identity of the Deathbird and his purpose, but after several attempts to probe, he came up empty.
After that, the Deathbird borrowed manpower from the Evil Claws and used Dekar to confirm the location of White Cliff Town.
He left, and never returned.
The man in front of him did not know much about the Deathbird, let alone the reason he went to White Cliff Town.
As time passed, Dekar was about to forget all of this, but the man brought it up again today.
Dekar understood the man’s personality very well.
After recording detailed descriptions of the man’s demeanor, tone, and various other aspects, Dekar often spent his private time studying these notes, thoroughly analyzing the man until he knew him inside and out.
Dekar remained silent, and as expected, the man spoke in a boastful manner.
“You must have heard the news too. Another Miracle Creation has surfaced in the Sea of Origin, and the master of this Miracle Creation is not a giant god, but a newly ascended Abomination.”
Dekar responded, “What else do you know?”
“Not much is known.”
The man sighed deeply and said sincerely, “I’m not lying. That newly ascended Abomination is simply too mysterious; the known intelligence is pitifully scarce.”
Dekar asked with interest, “Such as?”
“That is an extremely arrogant existence. The Spore Sac Sanctuary tried to communicate several times, but was ruthlessly rejected. Fortunately, after a series of interactions, we still managed to figure out a few things.”
The man recalled, “We don’t know the specific identity or title of the Scarlet Blazing Sun, whether he opened a brand new Path or stepped onto a long-sealed Path.
The only thing that is clear is that he united the oathbreakers who were fighting independently in the Dark World and reorganized them into a legion.”
As a follower of the chaos evils, the man instinctively felt immense pressure when mentioning the word “legion.”
“Oathbreakers, huh…”
Dekar’s focus was entirely different from the man’s.
All Transcendent who abandoned their Path and embraced Chaos could be considered oathbreakers, but in most contexts, the term oathbreakers implicitly refers to the Torchbearer.
Those rebels who embraced Chaos during The Twelfth Crusade, sparking the Year of Rebellion.
“The reorganized rebels have formed an extremely powerful force. According to my latest intelligence, they have already occupied a large territory in the Dark World, and even the involvement of other Abomination forces has failed to stop their expansion.”
Midway through speaking, the man suddenly recalled something.
“They call themselves—the Salvation Army.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a look of contempt appeared on the man’s face.
How ironic it was to call themselves saviors while clearly following the chaos evils.
Dekar asked, “Is that all?”
“No,” the man shook his head, “But we suspect the Salvation Army is also coming for the so-called Blazing Sun. No one can say for sure how subsequent events will unfold.”
“But rest assured, Heer City will be spared.”
Dekar took a deep breath and nodded silently. Seeing this, the man took the opportunity to tempt him.
“So, what have you decided? Even if you refuse to abandon the Path of Return to Silence, you can still receive the Mother’s blessing.”
From beginning to end, Dekar and the Evil Claws were only in a partnership. His heart was dark, but his own power maintained its purity, untainted by Chaos.
Dekar said emotionlessly, “Are you saying… like my father?”
“Why not?”
The man spread his hands. “The Evil Claws have always cooperated happily with your family, haven’t they? It was the same with your father back then, and it is the same with you now.”
After Rul returned from White Gorge, he fell into madness over the future of Heer City. In despair, he chose to join forces with the Evil Claws, seeking hope for Heer City.
After Reverse Falcon hanged Rul, Dekar inherited his father’s last wish and contacted the Evil Claws again, allowing them to constantly grow in the shadows of Heer City.
“My father?”
Dekar saw that familiar yet strange figure flash before his eyes and murmured.
“All this time, I thought my father was a cowardly and foolish man.”
The man was stunned.
“To have his sanity collapse just by glimpsing Heer City’s dark future—isn’t that cowardice? Not to mention his foolishness, choosing to personally step into Chaos.”
Dekar slowly stood up, his figure so tall, like an unshakable high wall.
“Actually, I don’t hate Reverse Falcon. On the contrary, I admire him. Reverse Falcon and I share the same ideal—we both vow to make Heer City better. It’s just that we chose fundamentally different paths.
Therefore, a battle between Reverse Falcon and me is inevitable.”
Dekar slowly walked toward the man. Beneath his calm demeanor was a hidden surge of power, like accumulated lava about to erupt.
“But I wouldn’t blame Reverse Falcon just because he hanged my father. That was my father’s own doing; even if Reverse Falcon hadn’t eliminated him, I would have done it myself for the honor of the family.
The only reason I kept pursuing Reverse Falcon was to use my father as an excuse to unite the other City-state Councilors and borrow their strength to oppose Reverse Falcon.”
Dekar looked around. His voice was not loud, but it sounded clear and sharp.
“Many powerful and influential people have died here, but have you ever wondered why the various forces in Heer City never pursued Reverse Falcon?”
Dekar sneered and explained.
“Reverse Falcon was right.
On that day, all the City-state Councilors who participated in the meeting were contaminated by Chaos. Their deaths were well deserved.”
The man became alert. The Chaos and Source Energy within his body stirred simultaneously. The others did the same, rising and drawing their swords and guns.
Facing countless blades and guns, Dekar maintained his confident posture.
“As for the method Reverse Falcon used to kill them, it wasn’t as recorded—rashly breaking in, killing people, and burning the corpses.”
Dekar took a step back and smiled.
“He merely pressed a switch.”
The rotten dome of the conference hall suddenly emitted a grating sound of twisting metal, splitting open with an irregular gap.
The man first felt a wave of heat hit his face, and then a stream of golden-white light, like liquid flame, flowed down the sloping dome.
The brilliant radiance gathered into a dazzling river of light, completely illuminating the gloomy conference hall and thoroughly engulfing the Evil Claws members.
The first ray of light struck the man, and his body, like oil-soaked paper being ignited, instantly burst into golden flames.
“Liar!”
The man roared incessantly, trying to detonate the Chaos power within him to kill Dekar, that two-faced bastard.
But this time, the unfailingly effective Chaos power did not respond.
Chaos was suppressed.
Completely suppressed by the magnificent radiance.
The dome of this conference hall was actually directly connected to the beacon array, drawing in the purest Soul Marrow Light to cleanse the sins of the crowd.
Some tried to turn and flee, but then they discovered that heavy iron doors had already sealed off their escape routes.
Ordinarily, iron doors of this thickness could never obstruct their advance, but at this moment, they were as fragile as mortals.
Wool cloaks curled into charred ash in the light, and exposed skin melted like boiling wax. Every muscle fiber burst in the intense light, emitting the crackling sound of burning fat.
“Dekar! Do you think this will save Heer City!”
The man roared hoarsely, “The Mother’s power has already permeated the rivers! Heer City will eventually be swallowed by the Devouring Evolution!”
Dekar shook his head and said softly.
“Then, before that happens, let the Power of Stillness forget these things.”
The last thing reflected in the man’s cloudy pupils was his own burning hands.
Finger bones gradually became visible in the flames, and the black mist wrapped around the knuckles—that was the Chaos power being torn apart and evaporated by the stream of light.
The stream of light continued to wash downwards, like a purifying tide.
Some writhed in agony in the intense light, their bones exploding into sparks inside their bodies. Some tried to run but disintegrated into scattered fiery dust on their first step. Many others, as if choked by an invisible hand, twisted into burning torches where they stood; flames surged from their limbs toward their torsos, and before the ashes could even fall, they were completely evaporated by the subsequent stream of light.
“Even though I despise the chaos evils, I must admit that without the help of the Evil Claws, my ideal would have been difficult to achieve.”
Dekar bowed to the crowd.
“Well then, our cooperation ends here. May your souls return to the Sea of Origin… if you still have souls.”
The high-ranking members of the Evil Claws were thus burned to ashes by the Soul Marrow Light, utterly helpless to resist.
Dekar stood firm within the stream of light, virtually unaffected, save for some scalding on his skin caused by the lethal high temperature.
The entire conference hall had become a massive incinerator. The air was filled with the acrid smell of burning protein, mixing with the scent of dust to create a sickening odor.
Only the stream of light descending from the sky remained merciless, bathing Dekar and making his figure appear like a deity.
“I will save Heer City from turmoil and grant the city long-lasting tranquility.”
He whispered, as if speaking to the spirits who had died there, and yet also to himself.
“I am the Light of the City, the Shield of Hell.”
