Chapter 4: The Mysterious Girl
by SunflowerUgh!
A scalp-numbing shriek rang out. Watching this scene, Lin Xian’s expression turned cold. The girl was still young. Even though he had witnessed many human tragedies these days, he still felt a pang of pity.
Just as Lin Xian thought the girl was about to be devoured by the corpse and the insect, an invisible shockwave suddenly erupted from the girl’s body, accompanied by a deafening roar. Before Lin Xian could react, the door in front of him, along with himself, was sent flying by a blast of air!
Boom!
In an instant, all the glass in the room shattered, and the furniture was blown to pieces.
Lin Xian was horrified. He was thrown by the shockwave and slammed hard against the iron gate of the living room window, his eardrums ringing!
Fortunately, his physical attributes had been enhanced; otherwise, he would have been knocked unconscious on the spot.
The sudden change shook the entire apartment building. In an instant, countless howls erupted, densely packed in the hallway.
“It’s over!”
Lin Xian scrambled up from the floor, immediately sensing that things were bad. At that moment, ‘Old Man Li’, controlled by the strange insect, had somehow been blasted into the living room as well.
He turned on his flashlight and saw ‘Old Man Li’ crawling on all fours. It leaped up from the ground with a strange cry and lunged at him, wrapped in a thick, foul stench.
Lin Xian sucked in a cold breath, his blood surging. He immediately took a few steps back, raised his hand, and unleashed an Air Cannon!
Fzzt!
In his shock and anger, he had poured almost all his strength into it. A swift blast of wind shot out!
Ugh!!!
In an instant, black blood splattered everywhere. The monstrous corpse was hit head-on by the blast of wind, half of its face blown away. It tumbled to the side, and pieces of its flesh scattered on the ground.
Despite his shock, Lin Xian didn’t hesitate. He grabbed his short knife, charged forward decisively, and viciously pierced the black insect!
Splurt!
Screech~!!
The black insect let out a strange cry, its dense legs thrashing wildly. Lin Xian gripped the short knife tightly, not daring to be careless. Who knew that the black insect, seeing it couldn’t escape, would actually twist its body and break itself in two at the blade, then quickly flee into the shadows.
“Damn it, this thing is so smart?!”
Lin Xian cursed inwardly. The huge commotion had attracted countless zombies to rush up. He hadn’t expected his shelter to be gone just like that. He immediately grabbed his backpack, haphazardly stuffed some supplies into it, and then his gaze fell on the hallway.
The girl was lying motionless on the ground. After causing such a huge commotion, this girl was still unconscious?
Lin Xian’s mind was racing. If he wasn’t mistaken, this girl was definitely some kind of ability user, but he didn’t know why she had sought him out. In his urgency, he gritted his teeth, thinking he should save her first and figure things out later. So he scooped up the girl and ran down the fire escape.
With his shelter destroyed, he could only rush into the underground tunnel. At this moment, countless zombies poured into the stairwell from all directions, chasing after the fleeing Lin Xian.
Puff! Puff!
Along the way, Lin Xian used his Air Cannon skill to take out several zombies. He finally reached the “Infinity.” He pressed his hand directly on the carriage body, and the Mechanical Heart activated. The cockpit door opened. Lin Xian pushed the girl inside first, then climbed into the cockpit himself.
Bang! The heavy cabin door closed, and the corridor lights came on. Lin Xian leaned against the steel wall and finally let out a long sigh of relief.
Ugh! Ugh!
The zombie tide surged forward, and within a few minutes, it had completely surrounded the train. Countless claws scratched at the train, making a creaking sound.
But the zombies clearly didn’t know that the steel behemoth in front of them not only weighed hundreds of tons, but even its thinnest part was at least 40 millimeters thick. An ordinary bullet would only leave a white mark without even a dent. How could the zombies’ rotting flesh claws possibly cause any damage?
Lin Xian wiped away his sweat. He went to carriage 1 and opened one of the blackout shields. The light from inside the carriage instantly illuminated countless ferocious, rotting, howling faces. Click. He pulled the blackout shield shut again.
Fortunately, he had completed the installation of the armor for the entire train today as planned. Still uneasy, he specifically checked it again before turning off all the lights inside the train.
At the same time, he went to the cockpit and found a black remote control.
At the other end of the tunnel, he had set up a remote-controlled large loudspeaker, a decoy designed to be used in case he was besieged by a zombie tide before starting the vehicle.
Beep~
In the distance, a huge sound came, immediately attracting all the zombies to rush over mindlessly.
After a while, the scratching sounds outside the train gradually quieted down.
Inside the train, Lin Xian breathed a sigh of relief. He turned on his phone’s flashlight and began to check the girl’s injuries.
But to his surprise, the girl had no external injuries at all. The bloodstains on her body didn’t seem to be hers…
This girl… is strange.
Lin Xian looked at the sleeping young girl, feeling helpless. This girl’s appearance had completely disrupted his plans. Most importantly, his intuition told him that this girl definitely had some kind of special ability; otherwise, it would be impossible for her to have reached his door in the middle of the night without a single external injury.
Bringing such a girl with him was undoubtedly a potential unstable factor for Lin Xian.
After some thought, Lin Xian found a few ropes and tied the sleeping girl’s hands and feet securely. Then he carried her to carriage 2, found a blanket, and laid her on it.
After doing all this, Lin Xian returned to carriage 1 and began to think about his subsequent plans.
At this moment, Lin Xian frowned and opened the map to search again.
“If I start the train directly tomorrow and follow Line 3 to find Professor Chen, would it be closer?”
This idea was bold. If it worked, it would save him from a great deal of danger on the journey, and he could also test the locomotive’s functions at the same time.
Sure enough, by checking the map, Lin Xian found that Chen Sixuan’s community was less than three hundred meters from the nearest subway entrance.
“Heh~”
He chuckled. “Such a good location, Professor Chen. You really bought your house in the right place…”
…
It was a sleepless night. It was Lin Xian’s first night on the “Infinity.” Although the sturdy fortress he had built with his own hands gave him a lot of security, the unexpected events of the night still made him uneasy.
This was his first encounter with a ‘bizarre’ thing from the night. Although it was just a strange insect, that thing was really disgusting, and it was obviously much smarter than a zombie. Plus, a mysterious girl was now lying in his carriage. How could he possibly sleep peacefully?
2:00 PM, daylight arrived an hour later again.
Lin Xian was in the tunnel and couldn’t see any light, but the notification on his watch told him that it should be daylight outside.
He sat in the driver’s seat of the “Infinity.” A mystic light flashed in his eyes, and his entire being seemed to connect with the aura of this behemoth.
Whoosh~
The supercharger turbine began to roar, the crankshaft connecting rods made a piercing metallic sound, the horizon gate opened, and click! The orange-yellow headlights instantly illuminated the dark subway tunnel as bright as day.
Lin Xian’s eyes narrowed.
It’s time to go, my friend.
Clang, clatter~
The steel beast, sealed for decades, was reawakened. Dust and iron filings continuously slid off. The Infinity, pulling three armored carriages, slowly merged from the maintenance track onto the main subway line, continuously devouring the black fog ahead, and roared away
