Chapter Index

What did he see? A well-trained skeleton army, with a squad of ten sword-and-shield skeletons lined up in front, followed by two vertical lines of over twenty skeletons each, holding swords, spears, and shields.

The formation wasn’t perfectly neat, but it was unmistakably an army, and not far away, a dozen skeleton archers were even “lurking.”

In front of the bell tower was a small plaza, with wide roads on its other three sides.

The plaza was two hundred meters long and fifty meters wide, and the number of skeletons and zombies appearing from all directions had already exceeded a thousand.

However, these monsters seemed to be under some kind of restraint, moving with a certain order, not just aimlessly wandering as he had seen before.

Especially the fifty-strong skeleton vanguard squad directly in front—they looked like a strictly trained skeleton army.

“Ding! The Apostle is in distress, the enemy is too powerful. Do you wish to activate the backup method, the Wisdom God’s Dark Hand: Magical Plants vs. Zombies?” The proxy spirit’s voice, like a heavenly melody, appeared in Little Will’s mind.

But why did that name feel so awkward? The Wisdom God’s Dark Hand? Magical Plants vs. Zombies?

Never mind, with a glimmer of hope in a losing battle, how could he let it go? After all, his own life was at stake.

“Activate!” Little Will, treating a dead horse as if it were alive, grasped this last straw.

A flood of information immediately appeared in his mind: base selection, Elf Archer, Elf Hunter, Elf Mage, Thorn Knight, Treant, Spirit Speaker, Witchcraft Bomb, Beast Phantom.

“Oh my, why does this feel like a strategy game?” Little Will couldn’t help but inwardly complain, yet he immediately felt at ease.

“What powerful functions! This ability is practically heaven-defying! Wisdom God, is your blatant favoritism really okay?” Fortunately, all these abilities were his.

Seeing that the skeletons seemed to be planning an attack, Little Will decisively declared, “Select the bell tower as the base, the plaza directly in front as the attack battlefield route, and all other areas as absolute forbidden zones.”

As soon as he finished speaking, a golden light permeated the area, and the entire bell tower seemed to be draped in a sacred glow.

A slightly brighter area appeared in front, thirty meters wide and two hundred meters long—this was the battlefield selected for Magical Plants vs. Zombies.

The sudden change caught the enemy’s attention, and the skeleton vanguard squad seemed to receive an order, beginning to advance steadily.

Little Will, however, was cursing the merchant in his heart, because the proxy spirit had just given him the prices: selecting the base cost three thousand contribution points, selecting the battlefield route cost two thousand contribution points, and then immediately followed by the prices for each character in the game.

“Witchcraft Bomb, select Witchcraft Swamp, deploy!” At Little Will’s command, a five-meter diameter swamp appeared two meters in front of the skeleton vanguard.

At the same time, Little Will’s debt increased by three hundred.

“Witchcraft Bomb, select Witchcraft Burst Fireball, deploy!” Four skeletons, trapped in the swamp, didn’t even have time to struggle when a huge fireball descended from the sky and exploded violently.

Ten skeletons were instantly pulverized, and several of the follow-up skeletons were also injured by the blast.

    Debt increased by three hundred!

“Select Elf Archer, quantity ten, deploy!” Little Will’s feeling of playing a game grew stronger.

Initially, there was only one row of empty slots, and each slot could only accommodate one character.

Each Elf Archer cost two hundred contribution points, generated one arrow every five seconds, and each Elf Archer had one quiver capable of holding twenty arrows.

The defensive range was directly in front plus one meter to the left and right routes.

The battlefield was only thirty meters wide, so ten Elf Archers were just right, assuming the attack wasn’t too fierce.

Effective range was one hundred meters.

“Select Elf Mage, spell template Freezing Ray, quantity six, deploy!” Each Elf Mage cost five hundred contribution points, with a defensive range extending two meters to the front and to the left and right routes.

Effective range was two hundred meters, and damage came with an attached freezing slowdown effect, with a release interval of five seconds.

The skeletons’ speed wasn’t fast to begin with, and the entire battlefield was covered by the Elf Mages’ range.

Aside from the slightly long interval, they were definitely the best defenders.

Fifty skeletons were quickly eliminated by the ten Elf Archers and six Elf Mages.

The proxy spirit’s voice appeared at the opportune moment: “Apostle has defeated the first wave of attack, eliminated fifty skeletons.

    Reward: one character slot.

    Please continue to strive, Apostle!”

“Select Elf Mage, spell template Fireball, quantity seven, deploy!” You might ask why I didn’t choose the more powerful Burst Fireball spell template.

Haha, that one wasn’t an option.

The initial Elf Mage spell templates were few and limited in power, only the lowest level.

“Select Treant, quantity one, deploy!” The newly added slot was in the front row.

Little Will immediately chose the Treant, which had high defense and a large attack range.

This was a melee combat character, with a defensive range of five meters directly in front and to the left and right.

Its defensive range was also its attack range, costing eight hundred contribution points.

From a distant mansion rooftop, the demon-masked youth’s eyes flickered with an inexplicable light.

“So, they made their move? I knew things weren’t that simple.”

Behind him were five skeleton knights and two zombie kings, the few intelligent monster leaders he had found and could communicate with these past few days.

“Send out ordinary skeleton minions to scout, and recall all the skeletons and zombies that were circling to surround the bell tower.”

He had planned a ruse, a feint, with the fifty skeletons in front serving as bait.

Who would have thought that the opponent would simply cheat, blocking all remaining paths?

The roads outside the golden light were impassable.

The skeleton knights and zombie kings who had gone to ambush could only retreat.

One, three, five, seven, nine—they were deployed in succession.

Soon, the demon-masked youth had a rough idea of the defense’s strength.

“On the two outermost routes, four shield skeletons lead the way on each route, followed closely by twenty skeleton archers.

Focus fire on the archers and mages on this route and adjacent routes.”

The skeleton archers’ range wasn’t far, at least much shorter than the opponent’s range, but the number of skeletons was large.

As long as they got close, anything was possible.

The only question was whether they could get close.

The first shield skeleton fell at a distance of one hundred and twenty meters from the target.

The second shield skeleton fell at a distance of eighty meters from the target.

The third shield skeleton fell at a distance of fifty-five meters from the target.

At this point, the skeleton archers began their attack, having entered effective range, and fired at the opposite side.

“Select Beast Phantom, type Demon Ox Charge, quantity two, deploy!” Little Will saw that things were going badly.

The opponent had actually figured out the strength of the defense so quickly.

He knew that the Elf Archers and Elf Mages didn’t have very strong defenses.

Two tall figures appeared out of thin air, steam rising from their nostrils and fire flickering in their eyes.

Red light shimmered on their four hooves, and sharp cold glints shone from the horns on their heads.

“Thump, thump, thump!” They charged simultaneously on two lines, and in an instant, the skeletons on the two sidelines were reduced to fragments.

The Demon Ox Phantoms slowly faded into nothingness at the end of the road.

“These brainless idiots!” The demon-masked youth had discovered long ago that ordinary skeletons and zombies had no intelligence.

They could execute simple commands, but anything slightly more complex would confuse them.

    Dodging? Haha, dodging was impossible.

Aside from instinct, their intelligence was comparable to a one-year-old child, perhaps even less intelligent than a one-year-old.

“On the two bottom lines, ten shield skeletons lead the way on each line, moving left and right, advancing within two meters left and right.

The skeleton archers are divided into two teams, departing ten meters later, with five in each team.”

The demon-masked youth saw another flashing slot appear beneath the bell tower and knew that the longer this dragged on, the more disadvantageous it would be for him.

“On the left and right, fourth and fifth routes, ten shield skeletons lead the way, moving left and right, advancing within two meters left and right.

Skeleton archers depart afterward, with three archers per column.”

“Zombies prepare to move out, three zombies per middle route, ordinary skeletons depart fifty meters later, three per column.”

Zombies had higher defense than skeletons, but their speed was very slow.

With limited troop types, the demon-masked youth had no other choice.

Skeleton knights and zombie kings were intelligent beings, and having them proactively attack in this situation was clearly unrealistic.

“Select Beast Phantom, type Demon Serpent Roam, quantity five, deploy!” Huge demon serpents appeared out of thin air, their tails lashing with crackling sounds, and their tongues flicking as they advanced rapidly.

    They attacked in two columns.

The four skeleton teams on the outermost sides were directly crushed into fragments.

The zombies and skeletons in the middle also collapsed, but since three teams were arranged in the middle, the remaining team, after suffering heavy losses, finally approached the target.

“Slam!” The Treant’s arm swung out suddenly, its massive palm directly knocking a zombie to the ground.

The arrows from the skeleton archers behind it had minimal effect, as thick skin and tough flesh were the Treant’s greatest characteristics.

“Slam! Slam! Slam!” One slap per enemy, and soon this team of zombies was completely wiped out.

The skeletons that followed were also defeated by the Elf Archers and Elf Mages behind the Treant, and the attacking side failed again.

The third character slot in the front row appeared, and Little Will immediately placed two Treants.

Having witnessed the Treants’ attack and defense, Little Will wished he could place a whole row of Treants in front to hold the line.

If it weren’t for the Treants lacking ranged attack capabilities, he would have wanted to fill the back row with Treants as well.

“Select Elf Mage, spell template Freezing Ray, quantity seven, deploy!” After a period of observation, Little Will found that the higher-priced characters indeed had stronger abilities.

He decisively filled all the empty slots in the back row with Elf Mages, and for their spells, he chose the Freezing Ray, which could both attack and restrict.

Compared to directly eliminating opponents, restricting their speed and disrupting their formation was more important.

    “Can’t wait any longer.

Left and right boundaries, shield skeletons lead the way, quantity three.

Archer skeletons depart twenty meters later.

Advance to one hundred meters from the target, then deploy Hellhounds!”
