Chapter Index

At night, under the dark sky, all the blackout panels on the “Infinity” were closed, with warm light from the carriages seeping through the gaps.

The living quarters were filled with a sense of security after surviving a disaster. The sleeper cars here had been converted into individual rooms. Although the space was not large, it was a world of difference compared to living in cars before. Now that they were safe, everyone began to tidy up and modify their mobile doomsday safe house, cramming all their belongings inside.

Shu Qin lived in a room by herself. She didn’t have many belongings, but with the extra space, the oppressive feeling of being in a car was gone. After dinner, she took a simple shower, washing away the smell of blood, and felt much refreshed. Coming out of her room, she saw that everyone in the living quarters was still busy arranging their living areas, with a look of positivity on each person’s face, which made Shu Qin’s brow relax slightly.

After joining the Infinity, it was as if they had found a ship in the stormy deep sea, a safe harbor that made everyone willing to contribute everything to protect it.

Shu Qin checked the time, set an alarm for herself, picked up her gun, and sat on a chair in the corridor, resting while keeping watch.

Further ahead was car number 5. Da Lou, exhausted from the day, had gone to bed early as arranged after finishing the big meal. The fully loaded Roarer K23 electric rotary machine gun was placed on the gun rack by his steel-framed bed, within easy reach. Below it lay the great steel-cleaving sword.

On the other side was Lu Xingchen’s personal living room, completely separate from Da Lou’s simple rest area. The lights inside were bright, and it was clean and tidy. Besides his bed and personal wardrobe, there was a wooden tea table in the empty area by the window, with two rattan-woven cushions he had found somewhere in Rain Town. The tea boiler was gurgling with steam, and fragrant tea was on the table—a small can of black tea Shasha had found for him. He was currently sipping hot tea while studying the development path of his fire-based Esper ability with a pen and paper. The white paper was covered with various stick figures with flames, all in poses meant to show off in front of others…

“Heavenly Flame Rending the Sky: Use the lightning in the sky to detonate flames, instantly incinerating the enemy… Hmm, not bad, not bad, but this lightning…”

“Heaven Burning and Earth Extinguishing: Detonate the flame energy within the body to form a sea of fire, incinerating everything. Sounds domineering!”

In the adjacent car number 4, a large glass ecological cabin stood in the center, currently empty. Lin Xian planned to plant medium-sized green plants or some green shrubs here. On both sides were two rows of soilless cultivation racks enclosed by grilles, with a total of 10 layers, fixed directly to the ceiling, capable of cyclically growing many green vegetables. The water circulation pipes were already installed. Ding Junyi had already made a planting plan with a few young team members, but the progress had been delayed by the two days in Rain Town.

Further ahead, in car number 3, Ding Junyi put away her research materials, made backups according to her daily work habits, took a shower, drank a glass of water, and then returned to the rest room Lin Xian had converted for her from a disinfection room. She took off her clothes, lay down on the clean bed, covered herself with a quilt, and then opened some academic materials she had collected on her mobile terminal. She put on her headphones, set an alarm, and listened quietly. Her removed clothes, including her underwear, were neatly placed to one side. The entire rest room exuded an air of meticulous tidiness.

In car number 2, Shasha and KIKI, who had also just showered, were nestled in the [KIKI’s Special Entertainment Zone], playing a TV game with the entertainment equipment Lin Xian had brought from Jiang City. Next to them was the girls’ rest area, a special bunk bed. The bed was semi-enclosed and had lights inside, providing a great sense of security and preventing them from rolling off the bed due to the train’s jolting.

The entertainment area was covered with a thick plush carpet. After her shower, KIKI was wearing a pink low-waisted camisole and denim shorts, her long, fair legs crossed on the floor without a care for her image. She and Shasha both had a lollipop in their mouths, a small snack Chen Sixuan had found while organizing the supplies.

“Shoot, shoot, on the left, you idiot!”

    “Sister KIKI, save me, quick.”

“Open that treasure chest, there’s good stuff inside!”

“Quick, quick, it’s about to enter its second form!”

    “I know!”

    “It’s almost dead!”

“I’m out of bullets, give me bullets, quick.”

    “Want a grenade?”

“Give it to me, quick, let me blow it up!”

In car number 1, the TRP-4 Special Industrial Active Exoskeleton Power Armor was placed on Lin Xian’s workbench. The entire power armor weighed nearly 30 kilograms, equipped with one small high-energy electric drive power component and 13 hydraulic power units. He was studying how to install the industrial prosthesis on it. Although having three hands might look strange, it was useful for him in actual combat.

The power armor’s auxiliary system was not very intelligent, equivalent to a microcomputer. Lin Xian could see that Ding Qing had treasured this power armor, maintaining it very meticulously. To preserve the life of the drive, it was usually kept off, and he was even reluctant to use the electricity.

Let alone mechs, in an apocalyptic environment, even simple mechanical structures like firearms were extremely precious. Without an industrial system, every bullet fired was one less, and a broken gun was difficult to repair. How could anyone be like Lin Xian, able to conjure up Gatling guns and bullets at will?

[Hint: A33K Heavy Anti-Materiel Sniper Rifle blueprint is undergoing upgrade research. 1 day, 13:49:55]

    “Still more than a day…”

Lin Xian looked at the research center. He was very eager to put the power armor in to see how long the upgrade would take. This thing could directly improve his personal combat effectiveness. Upgrading the blueprint was equivalent to directly upgrading himself. In his mind, its priority had even surpassed the upgrades for the 1130 and the electromagnetic cannon.

He had also looked at the blueprint. The difficulty of the power armor was slightly more complex than the PX05-Engineering Robot. The main issue was the level 3 material, Tungsten-Titanium Alloy Type I. If he used the preparation factory to convert level 1 and 2 materials, the consumption would be too great. But overall, it was still achievable.

Since he had confirmed the existence of the [Dark Mark], his next plan was to arm and strengthen the team. Everyone should have at least one set of such power armor. Then, everyone’s mobility would be greatly enhanced, which would significantly increase their survival rate when facing Aberration attacks.

Personal full-coverage combat armor and battle armor were much more complex, and the material requirements were not ordinary. Such things were expensive war equipment even for the Phoenix Society or Dawn City, not so easy to manufacture.

Lin Xian also had to quickly increase his level of mechanical manufacturing and devouring to plan for such high-level equipment.

After preparing the power armor, Lin Xian scanned the black spear and found that it was originally a muscle engine dismantled and modified from some large mecha unit. A magnetic control system and external impact armor had been added, and Ding Qing had used it as a weapon.

This was not something an ordinary person could handle. Magnetic energy engines could only be obtained through the black market in the past. Such things must have come from a technologically powerful mechanical organization.

Therefore, Lin Xian could only scan an unknown model blueprint for backup.

“This thing is quite handy to use.” He weighed it in his hand, feeling its weight. The power of this thing was greater than a bullet within a certain distance, and it was particularly effective against large-sized Aberrations. Moreover, it could be remotely retrieved, giving Lin Xian a new combat method.

Lin Xian had been paying close attention to the Isomeric Cube and the Sentinel system. By the time he finished tidying up, it was already past midnight. There had been no abnormalities so far, and he could finally relax a little.

He couldn’t help it; he was paranoid from being ambushed. From Jiang City until now, there had been all sorts of situations along the way. His nerves had been constantly tense, and he hadn’t had a good night’s sleep in a long time.

Now, he could finally grasp some of the rules of the night. This feeling was even more exhilarating to Lin Xian than harvesting a large amount of supplies.
