Chapter Index

Su Ru woke up from the cold.

She remembered that when she was helping save Tian Linger, she was bitten by a small Yao Beast. At the time, she didn’t pay it any mind. Later, Yu Xian defeated the Beast God and purified the entire battlefield. Everyone was excited; the beast tide was over.

However, she had also succumbed to the poison.

In the very end, she seemed to have been held by Yu Xian.

Was she dead? Or had she been saved?

She must be dead, otherwise, why would she feel so chilly?

But that didn’t seem right either!

Su Ru blinked, looking at the surroundings within her sight. It didn’t look like the Underworld; instead, it was a very exquisitely decorated bedroom.

She was still alive! Su Ru instantly came to her senses! She must have been saved! After secretly breathing a sigh of relief, she felt something was wrong again. Looking down at herself… no wonder she felt chilly; she was completely naked.

Ah, this! Su Ru shot up abruptly, hugging herself with both hands. It was too shameful! How could this happen? Who saved her? Why did they strip her naked?

Su Ru subconsciously looked around and saw a person slumped by the bedside—a man!

Without thinking, Su Ru kicked out, sending the person tumbling to the floor, glaring at him with a face full of shame and anger.

However, when she saw the person’s face, she became both ashamed and annoyed, but she quickly noticed something was amiss.

Yu Xian’s face was pale, his lips were cracked, and even his breathing carried a hint of weakness, clearly caused by the excessive depletion of his Qi.

The shame and anger in Su Ru’s heart were instantly replaced by worry. Ignoring the coolness on her body, she quickly struggled to get off the bed and knelt down, gently pushing Yu Xian.

“Junior Brother Yu? Junior Brother Yu, wake up!”

But Yu Xian showed no reaction, only frowning slightly, appearing to endure some kind of exhaustion even in his deep sleep.

Only then did Su Ru notice the faint smell of charring lingering around him, and even saw subtle burn marks on his fingers. Connecting this to the tyrannical poison inside her body, she instantly understood.

Yu Xian must have exhausted all his strength to save her; he hadn’t even covered her with a blanket.

A complex emotion welled up in her heart—gratitude, heartache, and a trace of inexplicable stirring—causing her to reach out and gently brush away the sweat-dampened strands of hair from his forehead. When her fingertips touched his icy skin, her eyes became slightly red.

Su Ru forcefully dragged Yu Xian back onto the bed and found clothes nearby to hastily put on. Although she had been unclothed, she clearly sensed that she had not been violated.

Yu Xian removing her clothes was just to save her… after all, her wound…

Yu Xian hadn’t taken advantage of her in any way…

Although her heart was filled with mixed feelings—relief at surviving the disaster, deep gratitude for Yu Xian’s selfless rescue, and a touch of shyness from having her disheveled state seen by him—

She sat by the bedside, carefully examining Yu Xian’s pale sleeping face, thinking of how he disregarded everything to purge the poison from her. The stirring in her heart became even clearer.

She reached out, wanting to touch his cheek again, but stopped mid-air, afraid of disturbing his rare rest.

After a moment’s thought, she grabbed Yu Xian’s hand and channeled a stream of Qi into his body, attempting to examine his condition.

However, as soon as the Qi entered, she sensed that his Meridians were empty; his spiritual energy was almost depleted, with only a faint breath barely sustaining him.

Su Ru’s heart tightened. She quickly withdrew her hand, not daring to easily transmit more Qi, fearing that her rash action might burden him instead.

She gently placed his hand down, tucked in the corner of the blanket, and her gaze fell upon his cracked lips. She got up, poured a cup of water, and carefully fed it to him drop by drop.

Yu Xian’s Adam’s apple moved slightly, as if swallowing instinctively. Seeing this, Su Ru felt slightly more settled.

She sat by the bedside, watching the sleeping Yu Xian, and the memories of the past few days involuntarily surfaced in her mind. She suddenly realized that Yu Xian’s image had long since left an indelible mark on her heart.

She recalled his bravery on the battlefield, his calm decisiveness when facing the Beast God, and his current weakened state from saving her. Her heart was filled with mixed emotions.

She sighed softly, reached out to pull the slipping blanket back over him, her eyes filled with worry and a trace of tenderness that even she hadn’t noticed.

Yu Xian was actually recovering quickly. Since Su Ru was watching over him, it was inconvenient for him to remain asleep, so he opened his eyes.

Su Ru, who was guarding Yu Xian’s side, had been looking at his face the entire time, so when Yu Xian opened his eyes, they locked gazes immediately.

Seeing Yu Xian awake, Su Ru was overjoyed, but then she remembered the incident where Yu Xian had seen her completely naked. Her face instantly flushed red like a ripe apple, and she quickly averted her gaze.

“Junior Brother Yu, you… you’re awake? How do you feel? Is there anywhere that feels uncomfortable?” Su Ru remembered that Yu Xian was still the patient, so she turned back to ask with concern.

However, after saying that, she felt the question was redundant. He had exhausted his Qi to save her; how could he feel comfortable? For a moment, she felt quite flustered, wishing she could find a crack in the floor to crawl into.

“Senior Sister? How are you?” Yu Xian didn’t answer Su Ru’s question; instead, he nervously grabbed her wrist and placed his fingers on her pulse again.

He held his breath and concentrated on examining her for a moment. Only after confirming that the poison in her body had been completely cleared and her vitality was flowing smoothly did he let out a long sigh of relief.

His previously tense body instantly relaxed, and his voice carried the hoarseness of just waking up and a hint of lingering fear.

“That’s great… Senior Sister, it’s good that you’re alright,” Yu Xian said absentmindedly.

When Su Ru saw Yu Xian wake up, his first action was to care about her, and a warm current surged through her heart, making her eyes slightly moist.

She pulled her hand back, somewhat unnaturally smoothed the stray hairs by her temples, and said softly, “I’m fine now, thanks to you. You… you used up a lot of Qi to save me, didn’t you?”

Yu Xian smiled, intending to say it was nothing, but he coughed twice as the movement pulled on his weakened body. He waved his hand, “Just a little bit of Qi. I’ll recover after resting for a few days. Senior Sister doesn’t need to worry.”

Su Ru looked at his pale face, which still held a gentle smile. Gratitude and heartache intertwined in her heart, and for a moment, she didn’t know what to say. She could only silently pick up the water cup from the table, intending to feed him water again.

However, Yu Xian reached out and took the cup himself, taking a few sips before saying hoarsely, “Thank you, Senior Sister.”

The room fell silent for a moment, and a subtle atmosphere permeated the air.

Su Ru watched Yu Xian drink, recalling the scene when she woke up. Her cheeks began to burn again, so she could only lower her head, pretending to tidy the corner of her not-at-all messy clothes.

“Senior Sister?” After drinking the water, Yu Xian called out to Su Ru.

“Yes?” Su Ru looked at Yu Xian.

As a result, she met Yu Xian’s deep eyes. They lacked the usual gentleness and composure; instead, they held a complex, hard-to-discern emotion, like worry, or perhaps some sentiment suppressed for a long time.

Su Ru’s heart skipped a beat. She subconsciously wanted to look away but found herself firmly locked by his gaze, unable to move.

Immediately, Yu Xian reached out, grabbed her hand, and pulled her directly toward him.

Losing her balance, she fell directly into Yu Xian’s embrace.
