Chapter 556: It Seems It Won’t Be Easy to Break Through!
by MachineSamurai9124The feeling of flying on a massive warship was indeed different; Yu Xian stood on the deck, gazing straight into the distance.
The Black Warship beneath him was enormous, with a low rumble coming from under the deck, as if some powerful power core was continuously running.
“Immortal Master, this warship has clearly been meticulously crafted; it’s definitely not something an ordinary power could possess,” he said, turning to Zhang Sanfeng, who was studying the control console.
“Hmm, although those Cultivators from before didn’t have high cultivation, being able to pilot such a warship suggests their background is certainly not simple.” Hearing this, Zhang Sanfeng turned from the console, holding a Black Token he had found on the Bridge.
“The material of this token is special, and the aura on it shares the same source as those Black-clothed Cultivators. Perhaps we can find out their origin,” Zhang Sanfeng said, handing the token to Yu Xian.
Yu Xian took the token; it was cold to the touch, and a faint smell of blood wafted from it. He frowned and put the token away.
“There’s no need to check their origin. I’ll go to the cabin to see if there are any leftover supplies; maybe I can find something useful.” After saying that, he walked toward the passage leading to the cabin.
After a quick look around, he found nothing useful; only the ship itself was decent.
By now, Zhang Sanfeng had mastered the basic controls of the warship. Under his command, the warship sailed steadily toward the Spatial Barrier at a speed several times faster than the previous small vessel.
“Young friend, this world is truly interesting,” Zhang Sanfeng said to Yu Xian beside him.
At the current speed, they would likely reach the Boundary Wall in a day or two.
“I expect it will get even more interesting later.” Yu Xian smiled slightly. He felt that Zhang Sanfeng’s state of mind had become increasingly broad through the trials of this journey, and he remained curious about everything in this world of immortal cultivation.
“Haha, this old Daoist is starting to look forward to it!” Zhang Sanfeng laughed heartily.
However, the closer they got to the border, the more people they encountered; however, because of their warship, no one dared to board it.
When those Cultivators saw the familiar Black Warship, they either avoided it from afar or showed expressions of awe; clearly, the original owner of this warship held quite a reputation in this region.
Yu Xian and Zhang Sanfeng were happy for the peace and quiet. They proceeded without hindrance and soon arrived at the area where the Spatial Barrier was located.
The sight before them was shocking; the horizon seemed to be blocked by an invisible giant wall. The surface of the wall was shimmering with flowing light, occasionally twisting and changing, emitting powerful spatial fluctuations.
The astral wind at the edge of the barrier was even more violent than rumored, whistling against the warship’s Black Iron hull as if countless aggrieved souls were howling.
Yu Xian and Zhang Sanfeng stopped the ship. They didn’t approach immediately but focused on observing the condition of the Spatial Barrier.
On that shimmering wall, the energy flow was sometimes as turbulent as a waterfall and sometimes as stagnant as ice. Every fluctuation tugged at the surrounding space, even causing light itself to distort.
The astral wind at the edge of the barrier was like countless invisible blades, constantly cutting at the warship’s protective shield, making a sizzling sound. The light on the shield flickered accordingly.
Yu Xian took out the xuanyuan sword and swung it at the wall. A streak of purple-gold Sword Qi swept toward the Spatial Barrier like a startled swan, only to vanish abruptly upon touching the shimmering surface, without even causing a ripple.
He frowned slightly; the sturdiness of this barrier far exceeded his imagination. Ordinary attacks couldn’t shake it in the slightest.
Zhang Sanfeng also took a step forward, slowly pushing out his palms. A thick Internal Energy transformed into an invisible wall of Qi, attempting to test the barrier’s repulsive force. The wall of Qi was bounced back as soon as it touched the surface, causing his sleeves to flutter slightly.
“This barrier is not only stable but also contains a powerful spatial repulsive force. Forcing our way through is definitely not a wise move,” Zhang Sanfeng said solemnly.
Yu Xian’s brow furrowed slightly. “It seems it won’t be easy to break through!”
“You two want to cross this Boundary Wall?” Suddenly, a voice came from the nearby hillside.
Yu Xian and Zhang Sanfeng looked over and saw an old man in a grey cloth robe standing on a rock not far away. He was leaning on a mottled wooden staff, with hair and beard as white as snow yet looking energetic.
The old man showed no spiritual energy fluctuations, appearing just like an ordinary mountain villager. However, appearing at the edge of the perilous Spatial Barrier was itself eerie.
He had a faint smile on his face. His gaze swept over Yu Xian and Zhang Sanfeng before finally landing on the Black Warship, a fleeting look of surprise flashing in his eyes.
“Do you know how to get across, old man?” Seeing the old man appear so suddenly, Yu Xian knew he obviously had a purpose and secretly became alert.
“I do,” the grey-robed old man said slowly, stroking his white beard as his gaze circled the two of them.
“This Spatial Barrier is indeed extremely dangerous. Trying to force your way through using ordinary methods is a near-certain death sentence. However, I know of a hidden weak point. Passing through there reduces the risk by more than half.
“It’s just that the weak point is occupied by a group of Winged Beasts. Although they aren’t top-tier Vicious Beasts, they are extremely troublesome and numerous. I cannot handle them alone.
“If you two are willing to help and clear out those Shadow-winged Beasts, I will take you through from there,” the old man said directly.
Yu Xian and Zhang Sanfeng looked at each other, both reading three words in the other’s eyes: Do you believe?
Then, the answer was also clearly evident: No.
But what was this old man’s purpose? Where did he want to lead them? However, since they had no way to cross the Spatial Barrier for the time being, they might as well go with the old man. Although there was danger, there might be unexpected gains.
This old man seemed ordinary, yet he could stand safely at the edge of the Spatial Barrier and even knew of a so-called weak point; he was clearly not as simple as he appeared.
He had taken the initiative to propose cooperation, likely because he valued their strength and wanted to use them to deal with those Winged Beasts. As for whether he would actually fulfill his promise afterward, that was a big question mark.
Yu Xian sized up the old man without showing any emotion, while Zhang Sanfeng stroked his beard with a probing look in his eyes, clearly also secretly weighing the old man’s intentions.
“What do you two think?” The old man looked at Yu Xian and Zhang Sanfeng with a faint smile.
Yu Xian spoke first, his tone carrying a hint of testing: “You’ve certainly planned this well, old man. Having us clear the obstacles for you while you reap the benefits? This deal doesn’t sound very fair.”
Yu Xian deliberately emphasized the word “unfair,” his eyes fixed on the old man’s reaction.
The old man wasn’t annoyed upon hearing this and gave a light laugh. “Young man, you shouldn’t put it that way. What I am providing is life-saving information. The location of that weak point isn’t something just anyone can know.
“If you try to force your way through on your own, whether you live or die is unknown. Now, you only need to clear out some trash to trade for a safe passage. No matter how you look at it, it’s a good deal.”
