Chapter Index

    He strode forward without stopping.

Thirty japanese people were sliced at the waist.

    Fresh blood sprayed like fountains.

The wails and screams never ceased.

With a flick of his wrist, the ethereal silk brought the yin blade back to Ding Xie’s hand. He didn’t even glance at the japanese people who had been cut in two but hadn’t died yet. Instead, he began pushing his handcart into the camp that had been occupied by the squatters, preparing for the next round of attack.

These thirty japanese people before him?

    Merely an appetizer.

The door panel and spoils of war were unloaded.

doctors mercy once again revealed its metallic barrel.

Ding Xie searched for a shooting angle and began setting up a new round of camouflage.

    Time passed minute by minute.

About an hour later, three black dots appeared on the distant horizon.

Tamura sat kneeling on the deck, his back straight, his saber placed within easy reach. His eyes were slightly closed, and a thick scent of blood wafted from him.

    It came from Tamura himself.

    And also… from heads!

Six heads were lined up in a row in front of Tamura.

On the other side of the heads was a man with broken limbs, bound tightly.

The two were separated by the heads; one had a calm expression tinged with reminiscence, while the other was filled with a rage that seemed to split his eyes.

“The Seven Heroes of Mount Yi?”

    “Nothing more than this.”

Tamura slowly opened his eyes and looked at the man opposite him, his gaze filled with disappointment.

    “Do you know?”

“We prepared for a long time to find you all.”

“But you have disappointed me too much. Including yourself, not a single person could withstand one strike of my blade.”

    Tamura spoke slowly.

Despite his matter-of-fact tone, the man opposite him remained in a state of fury.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to speak.

    It was that he couldn’t.

The man had died long before boarding the ship.

A single strike had severed his heart’s pulse.

Even an immortal would find him hard to save.

The reason his head hadn’t been cut off was simply because the witch of the Brothel needed a complete corpse—Tamura disliked the witch’s practice of refining a Puppet corpse to serve as a guard, but he didn’t oppose it. In his view, it was all for the sake of His Majesty the Emperor.

But the disappointment in his heart continued to spread.

He lowered his head and looked at his saber.

The saber of a former Sword Saint.

It shouldn’t just be cutting down people like this.

It should be facing even stronger enemies.

    At least!

At least it should make his heart race!

On another ship, Togo Yuji looked at Tamura’s kneeling back, his eyes flashing with deep admiration.

The Seven Heroes of Mount Yi were not some nameless nobodies.

Many of their maritime operations had been sabotaged by them.

The previous Pioneer Corps of a hundred men had been completely wiped out because of these seven people.

This had greatly infuriated the headquarters.

That was why they had dispatched them and the Lady Witch.

The Lady Witch would locate them, and they would execute the mission.

He had originally thought it would be a fierce battle, but he hadn’t expected Tamura to kill all of the Seven Heroes of Mount Yi by himself. Not a single person could withstand Tamura’s blade.

    “Truly terrifying!”

    Togo Yuji marveled.

“Heh, aren’t you even a little jealous?”

“The Sword Saint’s blade… you were supposed to be the successor.”

Idegawa walked over from the cabin, pulling up his trousers.

Togo Yuji glanced toward the cabin. As Idegawa stepped out, others were already impatiently rushing in.

The cries and wails inside had long since gone hoarse.

Togo Yuji had no intention of stopping them.

After a battle, one should vent.

Moreover, these were the Family members of the enemy.

There was no need for mercy.

But the Idegawa before him made him feel disgusted.

Since leaving headquarters, the man had been constantly trying to drive a wedge between him and Tamura.

“I am not worthy to make the Sword Saint’s prestige resound throughout the world once more.”

    “But,”

    “Tamura can.”

    Togo Yuji said.

This wasn’t the first time Togo Yuji had said this, and Idegawa was already sick of hearing it. This samurai from Kumamoto, who had recently left the regular army, looked at his colleague from Kagoshima with disdain in his eyes.

If it were him, he would never give up.

If he had the Sword Saint’s blade, the Brigade Commander wouldn’t have died when they occupied the Motianling Battery.

He wouldn’t have been banished to this Pioneer Corps for failing to protect him either.

If only he had that sword!

This thought appeared once again in Idegawa’s mind.

    And, unlike before.

This time, Idegawa heard the call of that sword.

It seemed… that sword belonged to him!

He should be the master of that sword!

Subconsciously, Idegawa was about to jump onto the other ship to take back what belonged to him.

But just as he moved, Idegawa saw Tamura’s eyes.

    Cold, irritable, and… bloodthirsty!

    Just like a hungry wolf!

The moment he made contact with those eyes, Idegawa felt as if he had fallen into an ice hole in winter. His whole body trembled, and he retreated repeatedly.

    “This? This?”

    Idegawa was inexplicably terrified.

Seeing Idegawa’s state, Togo Yuji couldn’t help but smile.

He too had experienced this feeling.

Because of this, he knew that Tamura was a more suitable person than him.

    Idegawa saw Togo Yuji’s smile.

Feeling insulted, Idegawa’s face instantly flushed red.

Instead of arguing with Togo Yuji, he drew his sword and rushed into the cabin.

When Idegawa emerged again, he was covered in blood, staring at Togo Yuji with the most vicious gaze.

    “I will remember this.”

Togo Yuji felt even more contemptuous in his heart.

Although the Idegawa before him looked more terrifying, his true Aura had weakened by more than a fraction.

‘After being frightened by Tamura-kun’s Sword Saint might, instead of mending your mind, you use blood to put on a show of strength… Is this the extent of your capacity?’

    ‘Idegawa, your path ends here.’

    Togo Yuji subsequently ignored Idegawa.

    A swordsman with no future.

He wasn’t worth wasting his thoughts on.

Besides, they were about to reach the shore.

The three small boats slowly approached the shore.

Some of those japanese people pulled the boats, while others carried the loot. They talked and laughed loudly, their faces filled with an indescribable excitement.

They had gained both merit and spoils of war.

There would surely be a victory banquet tonight, which they were truly looking forward to.

Suddenly, Tamura, who had been kneeling on the deck, frowned. He stared at the silent camp, a sense of unease rising in his heart.

    “Be on gu—”

Before Tamura could finish his next word, Ding Xie kicked down the camouflaged wall.

The next moment, tongue of fire erupted from doctors mercy.

    Click, click!

    Rat-tat-tat!

A dense hail of bullets swept across.

It was as if the Grim Reaper were swinging his scythe.

The japanese people on the beach were instantly torn to shreds.

    But,

    Not all of them!

The moment the gunfire rang out, Togo Yuji and Idegawa ducked behind the boats, using them as shields to block the first round of the barrage.

As soon as the gunfire paused, the two immediately charged out—

Togo Yuji sprinted forward. At the moment he neared the camp, he leaped into the air, his katana aimed straight down at Ding Xie.

Idegawa, on the other hand, moved low to the ground. The tip of his katana trembled like a snake, aiming for Ding Xie’s lower vitals.

One high, one low, they advanced simultaneously.

Sky Dragon and Earth Snake, the Life-Taking Slashes.

Togo Yuji and Idegawa stared fiercely at Ding Xie, showing no mercy from the very first move.

    Sky Dragon Slash.

    Earth Snake Slash.

These were the supreme secret techniques they had been awarded for their outstanding performance at Togakure Mountain. Either one alone would be enough to serve as a Family Legacy.

When performed together, they would slay any enemy they encountered.

    Whoosh!

    Buzz!

The blades tore through the air.

The airflow surged, swirling up the sand.

    Suddenly, sandy shadows manifested.

A strange dragon with a single horn, a sunken face, a protruding mouth, and bared teeth roared silently.

Below it, a strange snake with two heads, a single eye, and three tails hissed and flicked its tongue amidst a spray of poisonous mist.

One dragon and one snake, neither before nor after the other.

    And then,

They died, neither before nor after the other.
