The Cornflower Witch Chapter 253
bySeeing these yellowed bones, Lucas seemed to find his beloved treasure. He let the skeletal creatures carefully dig them out, then held them in his palm to observe closely.
At such a sight, Sylphidya silently stepped back a couple of paces, moving aside to continue observing the surroundings.
Although the bones still retained a faint trace of the ‘Dragon Eye’ attribute, it was very weak. It was clear these were not dragon bones, but products of other creatures being permeated by the ‘Dragon Eye’ attribute.
However, since there were permeated bones here, it indicated that the true ‘dragon bones’ wouldn’t be too far away.
Sylphidya closed her eyes, extending her perception, trying to locate the source of this ‘Dragon Eye’ attribute.
Unfortunately, deep underground, her perception wasn’t very effective. She could only vaguely notice that beyond the end of this path, in deeper areas, there was a faint emanation of the ‘Dragon Eye’ attribute.
On the other side, Lucas held the bones and pulled out all sorts of strange tools and powders, continuously performing detection and divination rituals. After nearly an hour of busy work, he confirmed that the location was behind the stone wall at the end of the path.
“It’s in this direction.”
“But we have to dig through here,” he said, frowning at the sturdy stone wall.
If he used the skeletal creatures to dig, it would certainly wear down their bones and be very laborious. He was a bit reluctant to damage these carefully cultivated skeletal creatures.
“Sylphidya, do you have any good ideas?”
“Me?” Sylphidya had initially thought this senior would handle it easily. Seeing that he was temporarily at a loss, she decided to tackle the problem herself.
“I’ll give it a try.” Sylphidya thought of the ‘Coarse Wood Vine’ seed she had bought before.
She took out two seeds, threw them out, and then used the composite abilities like ‘Praying Dew – Branch Combing – Fertilizing Soil’ to catalyze them. The two seeds continuously grew in the soil, their roots slowly extending deeper.
At this moment, the thickening vines, like two giant pythons, slowly stirred within the mud wall, wrapping and tightening around the stones at the end of the path, then contracting in layers.
Finally, with a continuous cracking sound, the massive stone was crushed by the vines, breaking into smaller pieces.
At this point, Lucas also sent his skeletal creatures to help. They quickly dug away the rubble, clearing the path forward.
Afterward, they both ducked slightly and entered the tunnel encircled by thick vines, moving deeper inside.
The surrounding soil began to turn black, and a distinct burnt smell spread. Both of them felt waves of intense heat washing over them.
“It’s just ahead.” Lucas suppressed his excitement.
Continuing to dig and advance in this manner, after about three hours, as the rocks ahead finally broke, a massive dark cave appeared before them.
Sylphidya took down the lamp from her waist, raised it slightly, and a bright flame emanated from the base of the lamp, illuminating the entire dark cave.
Inside the cave, a large number of skeletal remains lay scattered, belonging to many different creatures. On the stone wall directly ahead in the cave, a severely damaged giant skeletal frame was embedded.
If it once belonged to a giant dragon, now only the middle section of the dragon’s body and a few parts of its forelimbs remained. The dragon’s head, tail, and wing bones were completely missing.
Even the remaining parts were scorched black and fractured. If forcibly removed from the stone wall, they would likely crumble instantly.
Is this dragon bone? Sylphidya’s eyes shimmered as she carefully observed the corpse.
【Dragon Bone Remnant】(Tier 4 Dragon Eye): A very poor quality dragon bone remnant, no longer usable for crafting bone dragons, or numerous dragon bone weapons and armor.
It seems it’s not very useful, Sylphidya thought, but she wasn’t too disappointed. After all, she was just curious and came to take a look.
On the other side, Lucas gazed at the dragon bones, his heart surging with excitement. It seemed he believed these dragon bones could still be used to enhance his abilities.
However, there were other issues to address at this moment.
As the two stepped into the enclosed dark cavern, a rustling sound echoed within. Several bizarre skeletal creatures slowly rose from the numerous decayed bones lying buried there.
【Crypt Wraith】(Tier 3 Dead Ember): A creature that is half-specter and half-cadaver, often found in ancient burial tombs. They gain enhanced strength within the tombs where they are born, possessing diverse and strange abilities, making them very dangerous.
Compared to the meticulously assembled skeletal creatures by Lucas’s side, these bone creatures in front of them looked like infants haphazardly put together, not only asymmetrical on both sides, but also with arms and legs randomly arranged like tentacles. Some had no heads, while others had several heads haphazardly attached.
Carrying a grey mist filled with the aura of ‘dead embers’, these bone creatures began to move, charging towards the two of them.
The bone dust and grey mist that had been buried in the tomb for an unknown number of years contained who knew how many strange toxins and pollutants. When Sylphidya saw them approaching with the dust, she immediately retreated several steps.
She really didn’t want to engage in close combat with these creatures, so she pulled out her long unused composite bow, then pinched a vine seed between her fingers and embedded it in an arrow.
After being shot, these seeds quickly grew, beginning to entangle the skeletal creatures and hinder their movement. On the other side, Lucas also began commanding his skeletal creatures to fight the enemy. With his team blocking, Sylphidya could safely draw her bow and shoot arrows from the rear.
At this moment, a ‘Crypt Wraith’ strenuously swung its grotesque forelimb, striking down like a scythe. A flash of grayish-white light severed one of Lucas’s skeletal creatures in half, its bones scattering across the ground.
Afterward, another Crypt Wraith slowly climbed onto the stone wall. In its hollow skull sockets, two striking and eerie giant eyeballs appeared.
Under its gaze, Lucas’s face suddenly paled, and his body swayed. He barely managed to steady himself by leaning on a nearby skeletal creature.
Was it a mental attack? Sylphidya was wondering what Lucas had encountered when the Crypt Wraith changed its direction, its eerie eyes fixing on her.
A cold, malicious sensation traveled along its gaze, intensifying especially when their eyes met.
A bit uncomfortable, Sylphidya shook her head slightly. She circulated the ‘Moonlight Breathing Method’ within her body, quickly dispelling the discomfort.
Then she glared back at the Crypt Wraith. The creature fell from the stone wall, and after a while, it shook its head and stood up again.
Although she didn’t know why the same attack didn’t affect her, Sylphidya’s attention was diverted by the incoming Crypt Wraith.
At this moment, a Crypt Wraith with five limbs crawling and one limb wielding a bone blade charged through Lucas’s skeletal defense and arrived before Sylphidya.
Its long bone blade limb rose, like a whipping lash, striking down with a sharp shriek.
Given the distance and cramped environment, it was extremely difficult for Sylphidya to dodge.
The girl gripped the hilt of her sword and drew it out quickly.
For the first time, her sharp blade didn’t cleave through the enemy, but it still cut into the inner side of the bone blade, tearing a gap. Caught off guard, Sylphidya was sent flying a few steps by the impact, only cushioning the force by pushing her toes against the tunnel wall.
Very strong, perhaps due to the environmental boost, these Crypt Wraiths were much stronger than Sylphidya had imagined, comparable to the castle knights outside.
In close combat, she might not have the advantage, but her primary specialization was not close combat. She usually found it convenient to use a sword and dagger against weaker enemies.
Sylphidya retreated several steps and then stood firm.
Facing the enemy that was once again in pursuit, she raised her hand, her eyes glowing with emerald green light. Thick vines extended from the top and bottom of the tunnel, trapping it.
Even as the Crypt Wraith struggled, continuously slashing and tearing, destroying the vines, under Sylphidya’s enhancement and command, the vines in the tunnel kept growing until they completely enveloped it, filling the hollows within its bones.
A few breaths later, these layers of vines strangled and twisted, completely tearing the Crypt Wraith into fragments.
After dealing with one, Sylphidya made the vines disperse and moved back towards the dark cavern. At this point, Lucas was fending off the attacks of three ‘Crypt Wraiths’ alone, struggling greatly.
Both sides were Tier 3, and the Crypt Wraiths had the advantage of the environment. In such circumstances, Lucas had held out for a long time, which already showed considerable strength.
If Sylphidya hadn’t arrived, he probably would have had to pay a significant price and spend a lot of time to defeat these three Crypt Wraiths.
However, Sylphidya didn’t want to drag it out too long at this point. After all, they had been inside for most of the day, and if they delayed any further, the army from Scorched Stone City would likely have already surrounded the outside of the mine.
She raised her hand, and several vines dangled from the tunnel, continuously extending and intertwining, strengthening their woody fibers, making them harder and harder. Complex special patterns also emerged within them, and wisps of pale golden light flowed through them.
Half a minute later, a peculiar Spiral Spear landed in Sylphidya’s hand. She easily twirled it a few times, then accurately aimed at the Crypt Wraith in the distance and took a deep breath.
‘Spiral Spear!’
The spiral spear body was adorned with patterns of swirling flowers and birds. As Sylphidya threw it, a golden lightning bolt appeared in an instant, leaving a long, flashing trajectory as it pierced through the farthest Crypt Wraith.
The moment it struck the enemy, the electric light on the spear burst, and the ‘Jade Honey’ attribute contained within rapidly transformed, instantly becoming a violent current that permeated the entire Crypt Wraith.
Then, the Crypt Wraith fell, emitting wisps of white smoke, motionless.
Seeing this result, Sylphidya shook her head slightly.
Although she had defeated the enemy, she always felt that this ability should have a better way of use or technique. Perhaps only by seeing the original mythical weapon ‘Edanir’ would she truly understand the original form of this ability.
Afterward, Sylphidya waved her hand again, and four Spiral Spears flew out from beside her, piercing through the remaining two Crypt Wraiths, killing them in this dark cave.
The battle ended. At this moment, the two finally had ample time to search for any potential skeletal treasures buried here. Meanwhile, outside the mine on the surface, a hurried, dense sound of footsteps arrived, and under the fierce command of the officer, they began to encircle and blockade the area in layers.
