Chapter 31

    Comia’s Invitation

    The assessment was over.

In the combat competition, the first place scored 120, the second place 100, the third place 90, the fourth and fifth both 85, and the rest of the students scored between 70-30 depending on their combat performance.

“Comia’s combat score is 65.” Yero read out the results. Many students were surprised but quickly understood why.

Indeed, Comia had defeated Solin, and although such ability could only be used 1-2 times a day, it showed that her combat power was not weak.

“Hylial’s combat score is 60.” Yero read out another girl’s score, which surprised and puzzled many students.

“Why is that? Lia didn’t even participate, how did she get a score?” someone objected.

“Lia’s Secret History class scores were already very high. If you add the combat scores…” someone felt their ranking was stolen.

“Miss Lia spent extra effort and time learning gardening techniques and successfully mastered the Dew Prayer Method, so the teacher converted this part into her combat score.” Yero explained.

“Dew Prayer Method, what’s that?” someone asked, confused.

“It seems to be a skill that professional Gardeners must know. It can accelerate plant growth or ripen flowers and plants.”

“It doesn’t seem to be that useful, does it? And it adds 60 points. I think 30 points would be enough.” someone whispered enviously.

“Quiet.” Yero, as Scholar Hyde’s student and current teaching assistant, explained again.

“Miss Hylial only took less than ten days to learn the ‘Dew Prayer Method’ after being exposed to it. The teacher believes this is a remarkable achievement, which is why she was awarded 60 points.”

“In addition, Mick received an extra 10 points because he broke through to the second stage of the breathing technique, and Solin received an extra 10 points for learning ‘Power Burst’.”

“If you achieve breakthroughs in your learning of any abilities in the future, the teacher will also give you extra points.” With his explanation, the students finally accepted it.

“In that case, Solin’s 90 points would be the same as the second place.”

“I wonder who will get second and third place in this assessment.” Everyone present discussed animatedly.

In the afternoon, Teacher Hyde supervised everyone’s Secret History class exam, and then graded the papers on the spot.

“The full score is 100. Iona got 98, Lia got 100, not much difference. Next is Balun with 91, Comia with 87, Solin with 85…”

“Finally, Lei scored 43, and Mick scored 36.” Their Secret History class scores were indeed a pair of sympathetic siblings, ranking at the bottom.

“The total scores are: first place Iona with 218 points, second place Solin with 185 points, third place Balun with 176 points, fourth place Lia with 160 points, fifth place Toss with 157 points, sixth place Comia with 152 points…”

After the rankings were released, the students gathered around to watch and discuss.

“Iona indeed took first place. That cloak was probably personally designated for her by the Viscount.”

“After all, she’s his niece, and also Viscount Kalun’s daughter.”

“I didn’t expect Solin’s score to surpass Balun’s. It seems those extra 10 points were crucial, otherwise, Balun would have been second.”

Balun was naturally infuriated by this result, but unfortunately, he needed to recover from his injuries and would not be able to attend classes for some time.

“Lia, you almost made it into the top three!” Comia pounced on the girl, who then hugged her and gently put her down.

“It’s a big difference, 17 points.” She didn’t care about the ranking.

“Let’s celebrate tonight! Oh, come to my house. My mom said she’ll prepare a big meal for us tonight. She told me to after watching the competition this afternoon.”

So Comia’s parents came that afternoon, Hylial thought for a moment, then nodded and agreed.

On the other side, sitting in a private lounge, Iona also heard Valeni report the results of the exam.

She was undoubtedly in first place, but she was surprised that someone had scored a perfect score in the Secret History class, even higher than herself.

“Lia? The girl who always wears glasses and carries a textbook?” Iona turned around.

“Yes, Lady Iona, that quiet commoner girl.” Valeni said with a hint of jealousy.

“That fellow just memorized everything by rote and took advantage of your inattention to get a high score.”

“Just rote memorization?” Iona was a little skeptical. Considering that Scholar Hyde had not been teaching for long, the current questions were not very difficult. Although not getting first place was unexpected, it was not unacceptable.

“After this, rote memorization won’t earn you high scores.” Iona, who used to study at the Royal Academy in Whitecliff City, knew the more advanced content that would be taught later.

Regardless, the name of the girl Lia appeared in Iona’s memory for the first time, and she also became curious about that usually low-key figure.

At night, Hylial and Karen arrived at Comia’s home.

It was also in the East District, but in a better location. The entire house was built with stone bricks, plastered with white lime, and the roof was made of orange-red clay tiles. There were also climbing vines on the side walls, making it especially beautiful.

“Welcome~ Lia, and Karen.” Comia’s mother looked very kind and virtuous. She was wearing an apron and a dust-covering cloth on her head.

After leading the two students into the house, Comia happily ran around the room, serving them delicious honey water, showing off the flower basket she had recently made, her childhood toys, and a new stuffed doll.

The three chatted in Comia’s bedroom until dusk. At that moment, Comia’s father returned from the Merchant Guild after work.

“You must be Lia and Karen, I’ve heard Comia mention you a lot recently, haha.” Comia’s father had a small belly. He seemed to be a small manager in the Merchant Guild and had a lot of things to deal with on weekdays.

After all the guests and family members had arrived, everyone sat around the long table, chatting. Comia’s mother then brought out the prepared dinner, one dish after another.

The main course was pan-fried beef steak with butter, specially prepared by Comia’s mother, sprinkled with expensive spices, and accompanied by translucent light red Currants and a small amount of Roasted celery.

Such a main dish, if served in a restaurant outside, might cost one Silver Coin per serving. Even if the ingredients were bought, it would be 30 Copper coins per serving. For five people, plus other side dishes, it would probably cost two Silver Coins in total to prepare tonight’s meal. Even for a wealthy family like Comia’s, it was quite an expense.

At the dinner table, Comia’s father occasionally inquired about Lia’s and Karen’s family backgrounds, but he didn’t pry too much. It seemed he was very concerned about Comia’s recent learning situation with Scholar Hyde.

Comia’s mother spoke less. Comia said that her mother came from a good family and had studied and worked in Valley City before returning to her hometown to marry her father. Her father used to be a young man from the countryside who came to Burntstone City and slowly made his fortune, eventually being recognized by the Merchant Guild boss and working there.

“They both love me very much, but I feel they get along very 평범하게 and aren’t very romantic,” Comia said about her feelings on the way to send Hylial and Karen out.

“Lia, do you think they had to be together because of me?”

“I don’t know.” The girl shook her head slightly.

“But even if that were true, you shouldn’t feel sad or guilty, because it was their choice.”

“What Comia needs to do is grow up healthy and happy. When you are capable, then you can help them solve some difficulties.”

“Is that so…” Comia looked at the night sky above.

“I always feel that Lia is very easy to rely on. Even though she might not be good at fighting, being with Lia makes me feel so relaxed, I can’t help but talk about some small problems in my heart.”

She took a few steps forward, then turned around.

“Thank you, Lia, for comforting me. Actually, I’m quite strong, I just overthink things sometimes.”

“I’m so happy that Lia and Karen could come to my house today. My mom always worries that I’ll be too wild around Scholar Hyde and offend my classmates. Actually, I’m very smart, but adults, well…” She shook her head slightly.

“Anyway, today was great, not only did I shine in front of my teacher and classmates, but you two were with me too.”

“See you tomorrow, Karen, and Lia~” With that, she waved goodbye to the two at the intersection and ran towards the house, which was still open and lit.

“How wonderful,” Hylial whispered to herself.

Her previous life was unrecoverable, and if she had family in this life, where would they be?

The road ahead was long, and the future was truly something to look forward to.
